Yeah really there are many cities that would be good fits. Somewhere will end up giving them too good a deal to pass up.
I just don't see how CHI could match other cities with tax breaks. Not to mention it may be even more expensive to build in CHI than NYC. The unions and government here are a huge pain in the ass.
Denver for that 1 day prime shipping please Seems like their best option is to go east coast. They're gonna be fucked on traffic regardless
Amazon Mad Libs itt: I feel like MY CITY makes a lot of sense, we have CHECKLIST ITEM 1 because of REASON, CHECKLIST ITEM 2 at PLACE, and solid CHECKLIST ITEM 3 at the POTENTIAL DEVELOPMENT SITE. We don't have CHECKLIST ITEM 4, but could easily fix that with magic. I can't really see how CITY I'VE NEVER BEEN TO works for this, because they don't have RANDOMLY SELECTED CHECKLIST ITEM and it's pretty clearly STEREOTYPE ABOUT CITY.
I just don't see anyone offering anything remotely as sexy as that location in Lincoln Park That's some of the most prime real estate in America Chicago is my bet Also Seattle to Ohare is a easish flight
they've been trying their hardest to get downtown going again I could see them bending over for Amazon pretty easily. Wouldnt even require lube or a drink
People here got pumped a couple years ago when they just opened a warehouse/distribution center. I wonder how many American cities Amazon is propping up at this point
Also Chicago has access to a hell of a university network Only east coast cities such as Boston, NY, DC And LA can compete with the school footprint nearby
Would be cool for Austin to get it. There's one location near downtown that's close to housing and could be what is needed to expand our rail from downtown to the airport. But Texas just gave up 51 to Maryland and there's no way Bezos is going anywhere that can't stop the dang run.
Chicago is well versed in handing out corporate tax breaks. And I think in that particular site the developer would be in charge of the construction, not Amazon.
Uh, Chicago can definitely match the tax breaks. that's how the city has lured dozens of corporate HQs over the past 20 years. And holy fuck you dumb if you think Chicago is more expensive to build than NYC. I get all of Atlanta is fucking worthless land and your min wage is $2/hr, but still, wow
any place that uses stack ranking can be a bad place to work, which they still do for tech people. they also pay really well.
it's probably going to be chicago. rahm will kill anyone that tries to cause dysfunction. unions aren't as big of a deal with white collar jobs.
Pretty obvious San Jose is going to land this.......how many hundreds of tech companies are already HQ'd here ?
Eh. I've been eyeing their job openings in Seattle. The salary doesn't seem that amazing but you do get stock options.
That really isn't that much especially if you're living in the Seattle area, unless they give out generous raises or promote you only after a year or two.
Yeah, I get alerts for those for like 3 months. 90k in Seattle is like 62k in Kansas City. Certainly a good wage, but not gigantic.
Ok tell me what was bad about the Atlanta airport? The free wifi? The multiple Chick fil a and Popeyes? The at least 3 bars in bars in every terminal?
Columbus would be pretty sweet. Already have a distribution center + Easton has a ton of undeveloped land. City gave out some pretty generous tax breaks for companies out there recently
Compared to Dallas where the food options are 711 on one end of the terminal and a Chillis on the other
The Atlanta airport would be a lot better if you weren't packed in like a group of Guatalmalens in a Civic
