FYI for anyone coming north, I-10 west at 331 (destin exit) is crowded but moving at a pretty good clip. No stand still or back ups as of 9:15.
For those that stayed, be safe.

EDIT: also still have fuel at every station I passed.

We ran 589 all the way with no issues up until Chiefland, and on to Tallahassee. After that we cut across GA in to Alabama with no issues really. Having extra gas cans in the back of the truck was a big relief even though we didn't need it.

    Y'all stay safe

I have no idea how many are left. My neighbor was there. They were allowing 15 a person.

Nothing in Dade. Found a place selling fencing and copped a few sections.

A downed tree crushed my side fence, and the topper to my chimney blew off, but we are otherwise good.

All good in New Tampa, power and internet/cable all night, no damage to the cars.

No power at my house in Carrollwood yet according to my in laws. A few oaks down the street were uprooted, but ours is still standing. Tampa dodged another bullet.

Only lost cable and Internet, had power most of the night and no property damage. Most of my relatives lost power and a huge oak tree fell in my parents neighborhood blocking one part of the road. Very fortunate considering what was projected to hit us earlier in the weekend.

Just posted in the hurricane thread but I'll copy/paste:

Side of my fence blew down and I didn't empty or my freezer so there is garbage water in there now.

    Pretty lucky.

The traffic was bad, we expected that, but the people on the roads and at the gas stations, bathroom lines, fast food, etc. were by far the worst thing I've ever dealt with. Saw multiple arguments, near fights over the stupidest shit. It makes me hate people. Now I know why people just hunker down at home, which will probably be our next plan as long as we aren't in the direct path.

I debated renting a car and driving home from Atlanta instead of waiting for our late afternoon flight, but reading your post has convinced me to take the flight.

We did really well all things considered. Storm going through us or potentially staying off the gulf and going to the west of us would have killed us with wind/storm surge. Ended up going east of us so we got less wind and no storm surge.

I posted some in the hurricane thread but I ended up staying in channelside in a full concrete building. Was expecting to lose power and have a big storm surge. Went there because the wind estimates were scaring me away from my girlfriends parents house in new tampa. We all ended up being fine.

I know someone was posting about a negative experience getting home but I had an amazing experience here. I really felt like everyone banded together. I am sure we saw some of the worst in people (there were some scattered reports of looting and other problems) but I saw a lot of the best in people. People just showing genuine respect and empathy for their neighbors.

Crazy to think how much damage/issues were caused here for what we actually got. Can't imagine what Tampa would have looked like if we got the doomsday scenario it looked like Saturday morning.

Starting to look at Tampa as a possibility for my next move. Any advice on areas to live, things to look out for? My salary will be in the 40k's presumably and the girlfriend's should be near the same, as far as budget goes.

Are you looking to rent or buy? How old are you? What type of area are you looking for? A general idea of where your job would be would help determine the best places for you to live for traffic purposes.

Yeah we need the full bio. Age, do you drink a lot, any idea where your office or hers would be located, do you want a house or apartment, what do you guys enjoy doing on the weekends, do you have a dog. Happy to help but I need your life bio to actually help you

I was born one score and nine years ago in a quaint hospital in the county seat of Riverside County...

We're late 20's, renting for sure, we have a dog that we want to be able to take for walks easily (we have to drive 15 minutes in any direction right now), house preferably but an apartment would be okay. I'm looking throughout St Pete or Tampa for work, although early word from friends that have lived there suggest downtown St Pete is "more of my scene." We don't drink a lot but that's largely because we have exactly opposite schedules with me always working evenings/nights and don't get the chance to hang out ourselves. Beach is a fine weekend excursion, although besides the sun/sand, the outdoors isn't our thing. I know without the job location that it's tough to say, especially since having a crappy commute is a big reason why we hate it here in Atlanta. Living near cultural centers and fun things to do would make a marginally longer work commute not as painful, at least getting home and then being able to enjoy the evening traffic-free would be ideal.

Anything else you'd like to know? Thanks for the assistance.

Because your in your 20s and no kids downtown South Tampa, St. Pete or Seminole Heights will be your best bet. With your budget I would say downtown St. Pete or Seminole Heights.

South Tampa- nice area of town, a lot of young people, a lot to do. However, very expensive to live in.
Seminole Heights- up and coming area. A lot of great restaurants and bars. a lot of people in their 20s area. This is where the hipsters live. You can get a lot for your money. This is where we normally go out these days. Cons- it's in a not great area of town

St. Pete (downtown)- this would be my choice if I was moving to Tampa Bay. A lot to do. You're 30 minutes from everything in Tampa, a lot of great food/bars and 20/30 minutes from the beach.

If you don't want a long commute, your office location is going to dictate where you live.

I work downtown and own a house in South Seminole Heights. It's a great neighborhood with a ton of great bars and restaurants thanks to our hipster population. It takes me less than 10 minutes to get to work. It is gentrifying very rapidly, which is driving housing prices up. There aren't a ton of apartments and house rentals can be pretty pricey. I initially rented in South Tampa. It was fine, and I had a great location for Gasparilla, but the SoHo bars weren't really my scene. I am much happier in the Heights. If you are interested in Seminole Heights, I'd highly recommend spending time driving around the area so you get a feel for the different areas. There are plenty of really nice areas, but there are also some seedier sections. I'd recommend staying close to the river and generally avoiding anything east of 275.

PeterGriffin if you can, you'll want to avoid a commute situation that takes you over a bridge, so knowing where your office will be should go a long way in determining where you look to rent.

If you end up working in Pinellas county, downtown St Pete and some of the surrounding neighborhoods would probably be your best bet for your life style. Downtown Dunedin in north Pinellas is also worth looking into imo.

If you're in Hillsborough county, South Tampa and Seminole Heights are your best bets. Westchase would be ok too.

Going to Tampa for a job interview tomorrow. How bad is downtown (convention center area) going to be with the 5k and Boat convention?

You know, if it wasn’t for the murderers running loose and shitty schools, I might consider moving to Seminole Heights. Those house prices. :ahh:

Lived in OSH for 3 years and love it. The area of the shootings isn't as "gentrified" as most of SH but still scary

We walk/bike to restaraunts and bars all the time. I live a few blocks from angry chair and have walked drunk home multiple times late night with absolutely no issues.

The areas off Nebraska still have a log ways to go imo

Yeah when I moved here in 2004 from NY i was shocked that tampa had the same amount of murders as NYC. Not same % but the same number with 10% of the population. Has gotten a lot better but there are still some areas around ybor and other parts of town that I probably don’t want to be in at night.

From the Seminole Height Community Facebook page:

"Pulled up to a stoplight tonight in the neighborhood and Bob Buckhorn was driving the car next to us talking a walkie talkie. Gave him a and asked if he was patrolling, he nodded and said he was trying to keep the neighborhood safe."
