fuck everybody else in this thread this is why this man has always been #2 in my top 5 and fuck anyone saying there’s another rapper in the game doing it better
Lupe was one of the big reasons I got "back" into rap. I loved it in high school (2Pac, Master P, DMX, etc) but then started dismissing it as vapid/commercialized music with nothing intelligent to say
I think Hip Hop is and has always been like any other genre. You've got the fluff that sales and you've got the fluff with substance and you've got the real shit that best represents what it is at its finest. It seems like we were in HS around the same time and growing up in Alabama it was difficult for me to get to ride to the shit I dug. Every one was into No Limit, Dayton Family, Cash Money and whatever dance hit was out. I was into Wu, Kast, Jigga, Nas, Gangstarr, Tribe, Scarface, Dead Prez and other shit that just didn't fly. I bought my own car and put a stereo in it asap so I could Nazi tf outta my music.
This new Em album is painful to listen to. Going to finish this first listen, delete it from my library, and act like it never happened.
I hated Eminem "Relapse" when it came out and later grew to enjoy it.....somewhat. Maybe this one will gain some appeal with age
Anyone watching the Who Shot Tupac series on A&E? The attorney from the Michael Brown case is the guy heading it up. No new info so far but a couple interviews with people I've never seen talk about. Watching it led me down a wormhole of Death Row related stuff though. Started by seeing if Harry O ever got out of jail. Saw one thing say he was getting out in 2011 but haven't seen anything since then. I'd really like ot hear his side of things on ho wit all went down. Suge, his wife, etc. Also saw an interview with Freeway Ricky Ross talking about how he was supposed to get half of Death Row but never got cut in. Crazy to think Freeway Ricky and Harry O were cell mates at one point. He also talked about how drug money basically gave birth to hip hop. I'd never really stopped to think about it like that. He basically said artists and managers were looking for money to make albums and create labels but couldn't get loans for them and you had dealers with tons of cash they were trying to wash so it worked out well. I knew Harry O's money started Death Row but never really thought of it past that.
Drug money is still a huge part of hip hop. Wack One Hunnit financed the migos for example. Top Dawg from TDE (Kendricks label) was a renowned dealer in Compton. Hip hop labels will always be a way for dealers to make legit money and go straight
Yea it's something I always knew but never really thought about until I heard Freeway Rick talking about it.
Back to the Lupe talk, he somehow had a show at Ferrum College which is a D3 school in the moonshine capital of VA, about 45 min for VT. Me and a buddy went there, maybe 200 total people there. It was right after The Cool came out. So awesome.
With more listens, the Em album is getting better. It's not good but it's not as bad as it was on first listen.

Like where was this Eminem verse on the album? Going after Joe Budden and everything. Just such a weird album
This dude slowthai randomly popped up on one of my Spotify playlists. British guy that has like 5 total songs but is bringing it on this one (ignore the grainy concert footage for the first 30 seconds).
