I listened to Shea in a pod a couple years ago and had to stop after 5 minutes. His voice just doesn’t translate to podcasts for me. Not as bad as KOC, but just a tough voice to listen to.
Espn is such a shit show. He does good work on Get Up and now they are going to throw money at him? I like the podcast so hope it continues. This is what he said 8 months ago when he left the radio show: “Here’s the deal: I have been here like I said 12 (years) — 8.5 in this slot — I wasn’t sure I wanted to move slots. Personally, I felt like I wasn’t growing the way I wanted to grow. And that’s OK. I can be wrong there … But the way my contract works is if I was going to move a slot then I could talk to them about like, ‘OK, well, if I’m gonna move again with Will — we’re gonna do 3 to 6.’ Especially with everything that a lot of people at the company had to go through earlier this year, I just said, ‘Is there any way we can talk about an extension?’ ESPN said, ‘Absolutely. We’ll do this.’ And I was offered an extension, and it was the same money that I made now. And in the grand scheme in the way the world works, it’s a lot of money, and I get that. But my days were gonna be different. I was gonna be here on NBA hits for SportsCenter. I was gonna be here like 10 hours a day. “I don’t have a lot of a life now. I don’t really have any balance. I’d be lying if I told you I was super happy lately. I know people who know me really well here, I don’t think they’re entirely surprised by this. So it would have to be something where I also felt like I was growing creatively outside of ESPN Radio — some other entities … I don’t know if that was going to happen.”
I think you guys are reading into that report a little too much. Russillo left the radio show a long time ago, yet ESPN let him do the podcast a couple times a month and let him do studio stuff. It didn't have to do that. It put him on a morning show it desperately wants to get ratings a couple weeks before his deal expired. I'm guessing it was always hoping to keep him around in some capacity as long as the money was right, and I'm assuming he's going to be making a lot less under this deal than he was offered when he had those extension talks in 2017.
Was just listening to this pod on the way to work. I’m kind of surprised ESPN is letting him work for the Ringer. Im Assuming he’ll be doing podcasts at ESPN as well. Kind of a strange deal but pumped he’ll be teaming up with Simmons. I really like them together.
Who would be the ideal guest for the fellow hate-listeners? Bill would obviously never knowingly have someone on who would be a dick to him, but who would he have the most conflict with?
doesn't Bill have major beef with the head guy at Barstool? That loudmouth would probably be the most unabashedly combative
Haha you’re a top notch hate listener. Idk why, but I really laugh at the “stick man” conversation that bill and rap always have. Tbh listening to a rewatchable pod w/o Bill makes me really appreciate him. Those other people suck.
I enjoyed reading his blog and then his book for inside stories of the OSU hoops teams from his time as we were pretty good. I no longer read his stuff
i liked his stories about how evan turner was a weird asshole i like them especially now that evan turner is a shitty player for my favorite nba team
Titus: I don’t think urban is a piece of shit human. Also Titus: urban is like a c or c- as a person Also Titus: urban should’ve been fired Also Titus: I wish the school had a higher standard to something other than W/L Also Titus: plz oHiO fans doNt h8 mE
Titus: I expected this school (my alma mater) that probably represents the monetization and purely win at all costs attitude of college athletics more than any other to take a moral stand against all the bad things happening in this sport. They failed me and I’m surprised and upset. But also the people criticizing this incident are equally bad.
Simmons: The fat browns assistant being naked all the time in the locker room would not be one of the ten worst things ever aired on HBO Sal: Don’t be so hard on yourself
If his daughter was into fencing it would be “I truly think there’s a window for fencing to really matter in this country. It has to be a what...top 7 most exciting sport??”
I said this in the Clay Travis thread, but what the fuck is Sal thinking teaming up with that guy on FS1. I'm sure he's getting a nice check for it, but for some reason I didn't think he would go that route.
Hopefully someone baits Clay into saying the n word publicly so he can get canned from the show before it ever takes off Ahem that’s GRIDIRON GENIUS Michael Lombardi thank you very much
Lombardi trying to beat Edwin Jackson's record for the number of different teams he's worked for, it seems. This is his third media company since he left the Pats before the 2016 season.
I actually thought this was a really thoughtful measured take. He is saying that Urban isn't some evil genius who is sitting in his lair, but that he also isn't a great guy and should actually be fired. None of what he says really contradicts the others.
I busted out laughing in the car at that line. Love Sal. Simmons’ old friends are usually the best pods because they’re not afraid to bust his balls. The Ringer employees are all fanboys/girls that laugh at all his jokes and agree with everything he says. Btw, didn’t BS recently say in a pod that this was a throwaway season for Seattle? And then in this pod says “for some reason people are writing off the Seahawks this year”.
Are other NFL media types hyping up Darnold and the Jets as much as Simmons is? Feels like he's doing this only so he can flame the Jets later for falling short of the expectations that it appears only he is setting for them. I'm the biggest Darnold fan on TMB and I cringe at the "Savior Sam" stuff, I can fully admit he has a high risk of busting
