I fucking love Dune. I read all the books. The first three were my favorites. Children was awesome. The others were good but were so much further in the future than the others it was hard to stay as emotionally attached. I can’t wait for the movie. I told my friend who is a teacher in high school, she’s a chemistry teacher, that she should recommenend the first few Dune books to her English teacher friends for their students. I mean it has so many underlying themes about the human condition. Societal issues, ecological issues, manifest destiny, jihad, war, the path that mankind is on. It’s great writing and relevant as much now as it was when it was released.
While a series would rule, trying to turn it into a hit series that appeals to the unwashed masses would be awful.
If done correctly it will always be niche and in today's market that's perfectly alright. Never been a better time for a cult following show to be put together.
Good article about Dune fandom. Didn't know Peter Berg was attached to a remake at one point. That would've been awful. https://theoutline.com/post/5333/dune-revival-2018-david-lynch?zd=1&zi=d2kldj3p
This I kinda like, but also now I’m worried that we can’t get Patrick Stewart and the character actor that played Stilgar out of our heads
I listened to the version on audible. It had music and weird sound effects at the beginning of chapters, and would randomly use different voice actors for certain characters. But for the most part, the same person narrated most of the book. It was kind of weird presentation, but I enjoyed it
He will make an excellent Baron Harkonnen. Would it be too much to ask for Jason Statham to play Gurney?
It’s a shame Alan Rickman isn’t around. He could be an awesome character in the Dune universe. Would love to see Gary Oldman.
I listened to it on audible too. They used two voices for the baron’s voice without giving any reason for it. They would just switch between the two voices randomly it seemed. Can anyone here shed some light on this? Was he hooked up to a breathing machine half the time or something?
I'm actually reading this right now. one of those books that's been on my list forever and when I heard about the movie coming out I decided I need to read it immediately. almost finished Book I.
About a quarter of the way through Children of Dune. Messiah and Children are the two that I only read once, a long time ago. Feels fresh because I remember the outcomes but not the intervening details
Keep going after book 1. As good as it is finish the whole series. Children is awesome. The last two are different but still good.
when I mean book 1, I mean the first section of the first book. it was my understanding it's broken up into 3 books.
