I mean, cams have been out since the movie dropped. Not watching a 3 hour cam of anything, this isn't 2001 anymore. it'll be in 4K this month most likely.
I had it up on a 34'' monitor, I could count the pixels but after some research into the release that was just Twitter being shit. its a web-dl 1080p with stereo audio at 6GB size (small for 1080p), most sites are nuking it so meh.
downloaded it on IPt just now and am watching right now. So far audio and video is just fine. Might not be true 1080p but it’s pretty fucking good.
not only should this win the Oscar for cinematography, it should be nominated for that award for the next five years. they'll teach this film in schools one day.
time to unfollow so I don't see spoilers from the Messiah book. looking forward to the P.A. arc from part 3 and what ends up happening.
just go read it and then you can come back and chat. otherwise you'll probably be ignoring this thread until 2026 or 2027.
I just got a copy and was pleasantly surprised how short it is relative to the first book. This should be a quick and easy read
the traditional time frame for theater to streaming for WB is 45 days which would be less than a week from now. the copy that's out is very likely what Amazon was given. news on it coming to streaming should happen any day now.
I'm surprised it didn't do bigger numbers at the box office. Figured it would get a lot closer to 1b.
Oppenheimer damn near did it. I think the new Avatar was that long too? I don't know I didn't see it.
different circumstances. Barbie pushed Oppenheimer really hard as well, that whole campaign was nuts and probably resulted in enormous amounts of money for each film in the 8-9 figure range. Dune is not "tune out and watch laser swords frag people" scifi, there's so much subtext and information to process and remember. if you haven't read the books, you're likely just barely aware of the whole Dune universe existing. compared to other scifi or high fantasy stuff like LOTR, Dune's fandom is smaller. I also think them not having an immediate plan for a sequel hurt. Dune 1 dropped like thirty months ago, keeping layfolk hyped for a sequel for that long is a fool's errand. if they were already shooting 2 by the time 1 released and they could have really capitalized on how unexpectedly good 1 was, things might have been a bit different.
hmm, haven't seen anything about the 4K web-dl until now. someone might have upscaled the 1080p that was hanging around, though. the BluRay drops in a month so this is just a placeholder anyway but I mainly held out for the 5.1 because the sound in this film is S-tier. gonna give this one a go this week until we get a Tigole.
It goes up for streaming on Tuesday anyway. So should be some really good versions of it out there then.
these are them. web-dl is how the scene describes a stream rip. it's almost always the first non-cam/ts out the door because digital media is prepped before home media so it's just a matter of finding the stream to rip it.
I bought DuneP2 and sat down to watch it and I have had three people call me just to say hi. I’m only 30 minutes in. No one ever calls me.
It’s based on the book “Sisterhood of Dune”, published in 2012. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sisterhood_of_Dune
Zendaya is so good in that last scene. Just the "No fuckboy is going to make me cry" facial acting was so on point to what they did with Chani's character.
Agree that the scene is powerful and echoes well with Paul’s own worm-riding scene. Really didn’t like the changes they made to her character, but for a visual medium, I understand why Villaneuve felt like he needed a character to anchor the thematic reaction to.
I think it would have been better if he said "family" instead of "friends." Was really expecting him to say family since he told Chani about Rabban killing his family and giving him the scar on his face.
