Hoping the resolutionists are gone soon. Some guy clogged a power rack for 30 min doing 5x3 of bar only curls and bench press.
bigjrock got my final 3 weeks of the peak. My “taper” week has me squatting 5x6 on the Monday of comp week. Feed me this volume.
Daaaaaamn. What type of % or RPE? The way my cycles are lined up, I haven't gotten my "week of" program yet. And holy crap, I'm talking in RPE now. What a world...
All in the low to mid 70%s 6 @6 6 @7 3x6 -5% Also 10 sets of 6 between 2 days. There won’t be any detraining happening here.
Bet this guy wins a few WSM, needs to get his deadlift up but him with stones and presses is insane. At 14:30 here
Gave these a whirl tonight. Felt fairly awkward at first and couldn’t tell if it felt right but the upper back/trap/shoulder burn seemed like the right sign. Going to try to mix these in consistently to combat the desk job posture
finished my clean workout with 3 singles of 100kg pretty easily. maxing out next week. shooting for 315 squat, 295 bench, 110kg clean, 75kg snatch
I think I wasn’t engaging my hips properly and putting too much shearing force on my knees by forcefully driving them out. I can walk fine and squatting is just a little tight. Just gotta keep an eye on it and hope it holds up for 3 more weeks. Finished this block with a 465x4 squat
Nothing on the schedule, just vacation Down like 18# in 3 weeks, so my lifting is gonna take a big hit, just annoying as fuck
Nice to see you're back at it. Been doing my deadlift day on Friday or Saturday each week and not doing much else the rest of the day, have felt a noticeable difference and weights are going up way easier than they ever have. Gonna try for a new max in the next couple weeks.
This. I’m only working our 2-3 days a week and actually recovering and being sore all the time. My lifts are 100% better
I'm about a week out from maxing squat. What do you guys do usually? Business as usual or dial down the weight until showtime?
I would go business as usual until Wednesday then nothing Thurs or Fri and test your squat on the weekend
Good warmup for me is putting hip circle on and doing 1:1 of those and band pull aparts. Warming up legs/glutes and shoulders/upper back at the same time. Put it behind my head and fold my elbows in, gets the pec/inner shoulder area really good. Do kinda face pull type variations. Also do shrugs with them, works well with hex bar I have. Goes up on it's side and gives me a good distance for the shrugs. Probably spend an average of 20 minutes a day recently doing band work
How do you guys get into your main lifts I like to do my main lifts early in workout but most times don't feel like I'm hitting my groove till 3rd/4th exercise. Seems like I need more than a warmup or a face pull type exercise to get into them.
i just stretch, do a few warmups sets, and then right to it. i cant do anything until my main lift is done,
Main lift is always first. Couple warm up sets and then get to it. If you aren’t “feeling it” until your 3rd exercise, are you pushing hard enough? I don’t feel good until after my first heavy set.
Planning for a possible present for myself... Thoughts on Sorinex SSB vs EliteFTS SSB? Have always heard elite fts was the standard, but also hear good stuff about sorinex and it is $75 cheaper. hensleya
I absolutely push myself but have only been lifting hard for maybe 2 years, think I just need to learn how and when to get the best of myself. Was feeling incredible on some of my sets today but OHP was my focus today and first and not that great.
1 day of 5/3/1 for main lifts but do the last set at least 3 times then another day of lighter volume for all besides deadlift. Also don't really do full chest or leg days, typically split my days up into 2 categories and leg/back are my main emphasis. It's complicated, I swim a lot and building up speed is one of my main goals so do a lot to how my body is feeling. I'm doing really well, just need to find the spot where I can hit maxes. I had 2-3 great exercises today, my OHP just was shit.
I have a pretty standard routine. Dry sauna for 7-10 min to get the muscles warm, hit the bike for about 5 min to get the heart rate above 150. Do a few warm up sets. Usually 15 reps ish to get blood to the muscle. Example tonight was chest. 95x15, 135x12. First set was 195x5
For bench, can definitely say that light volume leading to a max is my way to go. OHP, figuring that out. Deadlift for me is just about mentality to getting a weight. Squats, well, I suck at squats. Am quite good at lunges which makes me feel that it's mostly something on my technique on squats
I’ve been running this for 6 years now so I’m a 7’10 giant who doesn’t need to warm up. https://www.t-nation.com/training/6-weeks-of-squatting-insanity
I’d go Elite. It’s a proven bar. They go on sale often too. The new sorinex one looks pretty good from the single image I’ve seen but the back pad looks thin.
I think my knee problem is bursitis. The little pocket thats swollen looks to be located right where a bursa sac is so that makes sense. Just gonna try to ice it, but I’m not taking time off. Yesterday I hit beltless squats for sets of 6 at 345, 355, and 335 and they went fine so we’ll keep pushing.
I have trouble hitting my groove when I lift in the morning too. Are you drinking a lot of water before hitting the gym? Also how intense/strenuous do your warmup sets get? I used to do super low rep warmups to ‘conserve energy’ - terrible, I’ve had much better results with higher reps to really get my form and focus locked in. Not going to sweat tiring myself out a bit if it gets me locked in for my working sets.
If this ends with me getting to make a few million and marry a girl that hot then sign me right the fuck up
castleberry putting up a post where he's got 1023 on a squat bar. just so absurd, i kinda respect that in some way.
Doing the GPP/Hypertrophy Bias Template from Barbell Medicine while cutting. Somehow my lifts all keep going up, but It sucks. My high stress week of the block is this week, and the deadlift session nearly killed me yesterday. I miss being in a calorie surplus . I want to go back to pure strength training but my fat ass needs the volume and conditioning in this program to shed some lbs.
Are you using a preworkout? I go caffeine, shoot a basketball around for 5-10 minutes to warm up and get the blood flowing, dynamic stretches involving shoulders/back or hips/legs, and then right into the biggest lifts first. Make sure you do a couple warm-up sets on the lift itself. Bar, 7-10x light weight, 5x semi-light, 2-3 semi-moderate, and then into whatever you're doing. I find this works well for me.
Swim during lunch break a lot of days which warms me up pretty good then take caffeine if I need it. Might be part of problem why my OHP/bench has highs and lows more than others, swimming is taxing on shoulders. I'll quit complaining, just frustrating when your other lifts are going well and main 1 isn't.
I typically run a mile to warm up after I’ve stretched at home before going to the gym. Then depending on my lifts I do my shoulder rehab with cable machines and light dbs
It says a lot for the upper echelon of strength sports when a man with a 900 lb deadlift "needs to get his deadlift up"
