Just started the Rewatchables epi of Broadcast News, caught that flick over the weekend. didn't like it at all, in fact I thought it really sucked and am not sure why it was even made in the 1st place. The gang singing its praises just confuses me especially them calling it one of the best movies of the 80's
yep, no where close to being a rewatchable rewatchables is a decent podcast but only about movies, that you know are rewatchable
I know they (especially Fennessey) tend to get cunty at times and flex over their knowledge about actors/producers/directors. This is definitely one of those times. Maybe it's me not particularly caring for William Hurt, maybe it's me just not "getting it" but there was not one time watching this movie that I thought this movie was good and I need to watch it multiple times so I can enjoy it over and over. That being said, I'm excited for The Natural, loved that shit when I was a kid and will re-watch in the next day or so
I watched Broadcast News and loved it. I’ve enjoy this pod this week. Was less thrilled with Reality Bites, Dave and Proof of Life. Pumped for The Natural. I just watched it the other night.
The only ringer podcast I listen to is the MLB one. Ive always considered listening to rewatchables. I was pretty pumped to see that crossover ep in my pod app this morning about the 2011 WS. This is brutal. I dont really care for Rubin. Is she a mainstay on the Rewatchables? If so, I dont think I'll be checking that out.
No, I don't care for her too much either. She's only been on the Varsity Blues one. I think she tried to take over the Varsity Blues rewatchable too much. I didnt like that they did that one in front of a live audience either. They have only done two so I am guess the feedback wasnt great. I listen to the Rewatcheables, BS Podcast, Russillo Dual Threat and One Shining Podcast. Once in a while I will check out Fennessey's The Big Picture but I forget about it.
the impressive thing about the female employees at the Ringer is they seem just as socially awkward as the men, which is saying something considering it's an office that houses people like Kevin O Connor and Rodger Sherman
She’s grown on me a little recently. She’s batshit insane but I didn’t find her as annoying on her recent BS podcast spot. That varsity blues performance was awful though.
Forgot about Binge Mode. My love of HP won over, but her incessantly forcing urban slang into her vernacular is so cringey. She tries too hard and it's like a record scratch when she's talking about themes of a story the drops in "Harry goes hard in the paint!" or "What a weird flex" . Just sounds like a corny, obnoxious try hard. If she'd chill out a bit, it would be a lot better
That vernacular is just what happens when you're much too online. There's probably some boomer in Iowa that says the same shit because twitter has melted their brain
the Ringer model for content for anything sports or pop culture is to just consume gluttonous amounts of Twitter and react to it. Don't bother with the actual games, just see what memes and slang are trending and adopt accordingly.
Several months ago they posted a Ringer poll on which movie they should do next and LA Confidential was one of the options. Every week they don't do LA Confidential my anger doubles.
The last 4-5 Rewatchables have done nothing for me. Give me a Gone in 60 Seconds, LA Confidential and Collateral
LA Confidential is also on Netflix. I happen to appreciate it when podcasts discuss movies that are as easy for me to watch as possible. I really liked How Did This Get Made? when they would do movies I had seen. But they mostly do movies I've never heard of now.
Wish the one shining pod crew did a daily wrap pod each day this weekend and next. This is their time to shine and they are still just doing Tuesday and Friday? Figure it out
If you haven’t seen The Natural (next week’s epi) fucking watch it, it’s awesome HDTGM needs some semblance of format. A lot of times they are all over the fucking map and half the time they’re too busy making fun of shit when you have no idea what the plot of the movie even is...but I agree, instead of doing Leprechaun pt. 4 pick a movie some of us have actually seen
I only occasionally listen to that show. So I have no idea what the fuck their segments are referencing. I listen on 1.5 speed so don't know if they are saying "bag guy" or "bad guy" or what the fuck a "Kyle guy" is. I listened to the last part of their season preview of the top 100 teams going into the year. They talked about Memphis at like 12 and completely forgot to mention Tennessee.
It is a great podcast if you've seen the movie. But it is really asking a lot for people to seek out a random B movie, watch that, and then listen to a 90 minute podcast about it.
I got plenty of other nonsense to pour into my brain while I drive. Kyle is Bill's nephew, but I don't understand the parameters of the selection.
Any live episode of HDTGM is a must listen regardless of if i've even heard of the movie. Mantzoukas is just on another level on the live shows
There is some truth in this. But the some of the hardest I've ever laughed was when they are in studio and Jason and Paul corner June into describing what she thinks happened in the movie.
I kinda like Simmons “lap” concept in today’s pod with RR. Every year on the calendar “sports activists”, as he put it, complain about the same things over and over. Team X got screwed over on seeding, CFB playoff needs to be expanded because 5 teams deserved to be in it this year, “pay the players!” any time someone gets hurt, etc... As Russillo put it, someone needs to come out and say “This is the way it is and it won’t change so get over it”.
Feels unseemly to group the absolute triviality of the 69th team being left out of the tournament with the very real injustice of players not being able to make money off their own likenesses. But Russillo being a dipshit is well trod ground.
also being the 69th team out in CBB isn't quite like being the 5th team out in CFB when major conferences get left out and a 4 team playoff was arbitrarily chosen 5 years ago
they seemingly don't actually disagree on any of these topics; they're not having conversations so much as agreeing with each other about them. i did like the "sports activists" term, though, and do agree that there are people who look to just take shots at the ncaa (esp. on twitter but also people like bilas) whenever they can and their act gets super tiring.
I end up defending Russillo on some of this stuff, but in fairness, Simmons is the one who said most of that about the NCAA not changing. I don't listen to a ton of Russillo stuff anymore because I think his ego has gotten really big and I don't really listen to a ton of podcasts. I think part of the reason he sometimes goes too far in those conversations (to some people) is I think the audience now views so many of those conversations from a political POV, while I think he comes at it mostly from a sports POV. I don't think he views the NCAA conversation from a "the kids should be paid" topic as much as a "we get it, kids should get something, but that doesn't mean everything has to be about that." I get why people don't like that, but for me it's always been one of the reasons I liked listening to him on the radio. Saying the baseball players/agents are being stupid doesn't mean you're pro owner. Saying Zion shouldn't sit out at Duke doesn't mean you have no beef with the NCAA system.
The Ringer NFL Show feed needs to be centered around Clark and Mays this upcoming season now that Lombardi is no longer doing pods with the Ringer.
if you're telling people to stop criticizing something because "it wont change" thats like peak old man just accept the status quo nonsense old man syndrome isn't exclusive to the olds either, lots of the people they're likely referencing are similar ages as they are
The whole don’t cricitize it thing is silly, and ya know Simmons isn’t going to hold to that. It’s more, be selective about what raises your blood pressure because you’ve seen this episode before. I thought russillo being beside himself because someone at ESPN informed him his choice in words sounded similar to something evoked by segregationists was smh worthy. I’m sure he didn’t mean that or have it in mind and that’s why it chapped his ass, but let it go dude. You could tell he’s been waiting to bitch about woke ESPN.
Listened to 15 minutes of The Natural podcast so far. Mallory Rubin is on. She's been ok so far. Wish Sean was on this one too.
He also made a ton of money doing exactly what he's complaining about as someone with a daily sports talk radio show
This reminds me of the reaction to the college admissions scandal of many which was “OH YOU MEAN TO TELL ME YOURE SHOCKED RICH PEOPLE CUT CORNERS” As if it should be accepted and dismissed
There is a weird phenomenon where people say "we knew about that already" when something bad happens but it's unlikely that they actually knew about it It's almost like a compulsion
Well we all assumed rich and powerful people were getting their kids into schools, I just don’t think we knew they were bribing administrators. And these two guys are rich people living in LA, so maybe for them it wasn’t a big deal. Simmons is definitely out of touch.
