Wait, this is why they executed Varys? I thought it was because he told Jon he would be a wise king or whatever
https://www.esquire.com/entertainme...ison-plan-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-5/ - he was working with the kitchen girl, who said she wouldn't eat - jon arryn was poisoned in s1... "poison is a weapon of the eunuchs"
Any text conversation pertaining to Thrones this happens. "I can't believe Jaime went out like that." "Um dude do you watch at all? His ending was foreshadowed."
Well after reading that, now it seems obvious, even without the line from season 1. I'm not sure how I missed it
Some interesting comments about Dany from Sapochnik, DD, and Emilia Clarke in the Behind the Thrones doc
So let me get this straight Tyrion tells Varys about Jon, knowing that Varys will do what he always does. Dany finds out somehow (intercepting ravens? it seems like I missed that part, too), and Tyrion confesses to telling Varys. But Tyrion gets away with an apology while Varys gets turned into a pile of ash. ?
Tyrion tells Varys on the boat... yes Tyrion believed Danys inner circle should be aware that way they could discuss how to move forward. But Varys decides to side with Jon. Danny finds out Varys is making moves against her by Tyrion. After Tyrion see’s Jon and Varys speaking on the beach he goes to Dany and tells her about Varys. Tyrion at this point is a hollow voice. She no longer listens to him or trust him. He’s aware and it’s why he freed Jamie. Also Dany blames Jon for the for the moves being made behind her back. Because if Jon didn’t speak to his family none of this would’ve happened
Spoiler Sapochnik: moment where everyone realizes this a bloodless coup that can be called off...Dany feels empty though, this fight wasn’t what she thought it was, it’s not enough. Most interesting line of his (to me): this is what you, the audience, were worried about. Well, here you go. Weiss: she knows shes won the war, but in this moment she goes personal Benioff: ultimately dany is what she is, a Targaryen. She’s said repeatedly that she’ll take what’s hers through fire and blood, and that’s what she does. Clarke: everything leading to this point and she’s finally utterly alone...this is a moral conundrum she has wrestled with
Wait, when did this happen? Dany seemed to know about it all before the conversation where Tyrion apologized I thought I was paying attention but I guess not
In the dragonstone map room Tyrion walks up and tells her someone betrayed her. She suggests Jon (which is telling). He says no, Varys.
I'm rewatching the scene now. Not sure why but the first time I interpreted it like she already knew everything I'm still kind of confused about how Tyrion, who set the whole thing in motion knowing full well what was likely to happen, gets away with a "whoops, my bad"
Season eight episode five. First 20 minutes. Dwarf and a distraught woman in a blonde wig. Can’t miss it.
He’s gotten away with a ton of whoops, my bad in the last two seasons because the writers fucking suck and took a great master mind and turned him into a fuck up.
Hopefully my last post on this It seems like a pretty big deal if the god damn hand of the queen finds out that people are spreading information about how she isn't the rightful heir to the throne and keeps it from her until confronted And it's not like his tactical knowledge of the city was super valuable when you have a dragon that can just obliterate the front gate
He’s not confronted. He goes to her on his own volition and that’s probably the only reason they’re both not dead. Varys fucked up trusting Tyrion.
is it? there's one episode left. we know there's going to be a conflict between them. she feels betrayed by jon and they've made that part clear over the last couple of episodes.
He hasn't had a very good run these last few episodes. He tried to get Cersei to surrender by appealing to her humanity
I meant telling of her state of mind in that scene She’s been separated from Jon for days and brooding, not eating, suspecting everyone around her, descending into madness. Her first instinct being Honest Jon conspiring against her shows she’s already off the reservation
I guess he physically enters the room where she is, but I just rewatched the scene, and he ends up just confirming stuff that she already suspects and well after the fact. Maybe I'm the only one confused by how all of this transpired.
Tyrion: there’s something you need to know Dany: someone’s betrayed me? (This line doesn’t mean she already knows, it shows that she’s paranoid) Tyrion: yes Dany: Jon Tyrion: Varys
That's not phrased as a question, though. And Tyrion's response is phrased like he's surprised that she knows. And she either already knows or pieces together the details herself, and Tyrion is just like "yeah, that's right."
Tyrion was basically just a drunk fuck up his whole life. Should have never been a hand. Didn't earn it and not being good at it shouldn't surprise.
It's long and convoluted so I'll put it in a spoiler, but... What (I think) happens in the final episode. Spoiler After sacking Kings Landing, Daenerys Targaryen, steadfast in her vision as Queen of the seven kingdoms, remains true to her word -- now she takes claim to the throne. Jon, Davos and Tyrion agree to depart Kings Landing and ride North. The three are captured and imprisoned under Daenerys’ command. Varys' letters did indeed spread throughout the seven kingdoms, and we see the arrivals of Yara Greyjoy of the Iron Fleet, Sansa and Bran Stark of the North, Gendry and the Stormlands and finally Tormund, Ghost and the Wildling army. A battle ensues between the groups and Jon, Davos and Tyrion seemingly escape captivity in the midst of the battle. Tyrion is saved in the battle by Bronn, who needs one Lannister alive so he can take his place as Lord of High Garden. Daenerys, the Dorthraki and Unsullied are winning the battle with help from Drogon, until Bran Stark interferes and wargs into the last remaining dragon, causing Daenerys to fall off, and subsequently lighting up the armies of the Dothraki and Unsullied. Jon gets close to Daenerys, to try and save her, but is met by Grey Worm. Jon and Grey Worm duel until Arya Stark interferes and kills Grey Worm, saving Jon's life. In a surprise, Arya, is stabbed in the back by Daenerys. Jon must now kill Daenerys. In the aftermath, Westeros becomes a free place, where it is broken up into smaller kingdoms, like it was prior to the Targaryen rule. No one will sit on the Iron Throne since it's literally and theoretically destroyed. Sansa Stark is the Queen of the North. Davos Seaworth serves as the queen's hand. Brienne of Tarth is named Lord Commander of the Queen's Guard to Sansa Stark. Tyrion Lannister takes his place as the rightful son and heir of Casterly Rock. Bronn becomes Lord of High Garden. Jon Snow joins Tormund and Ghost beyond the wall where you assume he lives out the rest of his life. Samwell begins writing A Song of Fire and Ice.
Then why would she say it was Jon? And I think it’s fairly clear from the state she’s in that she was just seizing on an opportunity to claim she’s being betrayed
Well, ultimately Jon did betray her in that she begged him not to tell anyone and he told female Littlefinger anyway. But go back and watch it. She pieces it all together. He just confirms stuff that she suspects and then offers some lame excuse like "as your hand I need to be aware of any threats against you"
As an aside in that scene, I really liked the nice semiotics in that shot of Tyrion walking into the mouth of the dragon carving on the wall. Dinklage plays someone capable of being killed with the slightest misstatement well. Yes I just said semiotics
Ultimately it doesn't really matter because Varys was betraying her, I was just confused about why Varys died and Tyrion lived, and about what Dany actually knew. I was expecting there to be some more information given at some point but Varys gets torched and that's the end of it
Right I’m saying I think it does matter. Because I think Tyrion tattling is key to why he’s spared the flame. It had to be one going to tell mom on the other.
I like the image of Jon walking barefoot down a beach to Tormund, who is sanding down the hull of an old boat In the game of thrones you either get busy livin' or get busy dyin'
FWIW I saw someone posted about Jamie’s hand “growing back” here is an article cliffs: it didn’t. https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/ellievhall/jaime-lannister-hand-game-of-thrones
