Tbh, I just want to own a horse for a month and walk through the paddock like a boss. Preferably see it win and get claimed and walk away even.
I mean if you just want to go into a paddock sometime just come whenever one of my horses is running and you can come in
Gonna be in Boston later this week then New Orleans next week. You’re mostly in Arkansas and Texas right? Also, I wanna say I owned a horse. Can I pay $1 to own 1/20000 and count it?
If you or others are actually interested I can claim one and y’all can just pay a% of the acquisition cost and I’ll cover the trainee fees and vet bills If we put in a claim for Grace’s Drama for $10,000 on Friday it would be $10k + 6% Kentucky sales tax The thing is I would want to know before we claimed the horse because if she runs awesome I would want to sell a portion and if she runs shitty I don’t want people backing out
I could be interested in this... I’ve run along with my father horses at Penn National here in PA off and on.
Where would you stable the horse(s)? I would definitely do this, but I want to go to see a training session and go to a race. So I'd need to take 5 or so days off and I've been traveling a lot lately. Maybe in August/September I'd do it. How much do you want as a minimum buy in? I can spend 5k without wife getting too upset. Won tickets through FanDuel for game 5 of Stanley cup
Anything I claim this year will either be at Churchill, Ellis, or Remington Churchill meet ends June 30th I think then Ellis is July and August and Remington is late August through November
ok. i'm probably going to call pish about dropping a claim on grace's drama. if anyone here wants to buy in for 5-10% for $500-1,000 let me know. as said above, i will cover all the associated training costs as well as vet fees. i'll front the $10k wire to churchill. you can venmo me the money and if we get her i'll keep it against the $10k i wired. if we get outshook i'll venmo you the money back within 2 hours of the race (will be out of town during the race and in idaho so not sure on cell service)
Looking at this horse, she’s hit the board in all six of her races this year and made like $55k. Why would she be up for a $10k claiming price? Is her ability just limited to lower claiming races?
yep. she's not going to win an allowance race at churchill or at gulfstream championship meet. she probably could run in a $16k open claimer. but it's really been a lot of people claiming her and then running her back in 3-4 weeks knowing that she will get claimed so they get a free roll at the purse money.
Let me know if I’m following this right. You claim her for $10k this week. Run her back in a few weeks in another $10k claimer and she gets claimed. You basically get your $10k back and whatever purse she may win. For arguments sake, let’s say she wins a similar race as this weeks and the purse is $28k. Winner gets 60% so you get $16.8k minus three weeks of upkeep. If she doesn’t place and gets claimed, you just lose the upkeep.
yep so it's $75 a day for training fees for my guy at Churchill. So if we run her back in 3 weeks its ~$1700 + another 100-150 in vet fees/pony fees/misc bs. there is a 6% kentucky tax on horses so we would actually have to pay $10,600 to claim her. then yeah we run he back for a $30k purse. if you win you get 18k minus 10% jockey and 10% for trainer. if you place you get $6k -20% so 4800
So I breakeven if the horse at least shows? I know we went over this before. I'm going to do this in a month or two so I know I'll have a free schedule to fly up for a weekend of racing. I really appreciate you offering this up.
It’s actually $530 I forgot about the tax I’m talking with trainer today and if he gives green light I’ll PM my Venmo
Yeah I think that math works out. Really the only way to make money in horse racing is if the horse wins because of associated training and vet fees/bills
Anything jump out to you yet? Fierenze Fire undefeated at Belmont mile. Winning by open lengths both times I think Also Landeskog in the Woody stephens might be one to use underneath at 12-1
actually leaning towards dancing waves in that same race now. either way, we are going to claim a horse out of that $10k race and then run her back at churchill before the meet ends assuming she comes out of the race well i already wired my $10,600.00 to CD this morning. so if anyone wants to get get 5-10% of the horse, PM me and i will send you my venmo information. if we get the horse i'll keep the $ and once again front all the training and vet fees. if we get outshook (multiple people put in a claim and the other people get picked) i'll venmo the money back to you pretty quick after the race
would be for claims and i would invoice monthly for fees. would email you copy of the statements and the % you owe and then your check would be due 15 days later
I'll do $1k in July.....any races in July or august? Would want to take a vacation to come see our horse win around that time period....
this would be for oaklawn so it would be more like october and then claim horses for them to run at oaklawn
I won't be betting the Belmont undercard because I'll be at a wedding (a shame since it has arguably been the best non-Breeders Cup card of the year since the Met Mile was moved there), so won't have my usual undercard coverage. I did look at the Met Mile, and I'd go with McKinzie - he's been good going longer, but I think a mile to 1 1/16 miles is ultimately where he does his best work. Mitole is good, but not sold on the mile with him. Meanwhile, while I've always been a Thunder Snow fan (and still am), I think the mile is too short for him. This is more of a starting point for him than anything as he points towards Saratoga. Firenze Fire and Coal Front would be second and third for me. As for the Belmont, I'll go with Intrepid Heart on top. He's been a horse I have liked ever since his debut (he debuted on the undercard of the Southwest Stakes, and his race was better than the Southwest), and his Keeneland allowance win was strong, too. In his stakes debut, he finished 3rd as the favorite (behind Global Campaign - who would have been my choice here had he ran - and Sir Winston), but he stumbled a bit at the start, which I think impacted him a bit, as he was further back than he usually is. I don't think he was beating Global Campaign, but he would have finished closer, and even if Sir Winston outfinished him last time, I'd still prefer Intrepid Heart over him going forward. With a cleaner break, he should be sitting 2nd or 3rd, which is right where I want him to be (I don't like deep closers for the Belmont in 1st or 2nd unless there is a pace meltdown or the horse is super talented, and I don't see either of those applying here). His pedigree is fantastic for the Belmont - Tapit (sire of 3 recent Belmont winners) out of a Touch Gold (1997 Belmont winner) mare who produced Commissioner (2nd to Tonalist in 2014 Belmont). His speed figures really aren't that far behind that of Tacitus/War of Will, and given he's only raced 3 times (and one of those included a stumble), I see room for him to improve. Beyond Intrepid Heart, I have trouble really liking any of the others in this spot beyond Tacitus and War of Will. I prefer Tacitus of the two, but my plan is to get Intrepid Heart in the top two with at least one of them. I'll pick Spinoff narrowly over Bourbon War in 4th, but I'm not planning on using either of them, as I would limit them to 3rd or 4th, and this doesn't feel like the right race for a trifecta bet for me. Belmont Stakes selections: 1. Intrepid Heart (8) 10-1 2. Tacitus (10) 9-5 3. War of Will (9) 2-1 4. Spinoff (6) 15-1 For $50, here is how I would bet this: $20 win Intrepid Heart (8) $10 Exacta box: Intrepid Heart-Tacitus (8 and 10) $5 Exacta box: Intrepid Heart-War of Will (8 and 9)
We are claiming Dancing Waves (1) at Churchill Downs race 7. 2:45 post If anyone wants 5-10% PM me and I will send Venmo info
We got outshook In Texas you get the horse In KY I’m not sure If a horse is critically injured or breaks down and you claim him generally the previous owner will return your money
I don't know the rule in PA but we once claimed a horse who pulled up. Owner returned our money. Horse ended up a riding farm a few weeks later
World of Troubled was strong in the Jaipur. I think there are a couple of possible singles on singles in multi-race wagering in McKenzie and Brick n' Mortar. But I'm sure the public feels that way too. That and I don't trust Mckenzie and think B n M is good but vulnerable.
Thoughts on the 10th at Belmont? Got to be all about the Chad brown stable with maybe the 10 playing a role.
Hopefully the one time you guys listened to me was this one. Have some extra money to bet Belmont now
