They’ve been doing the same thing here in Chicago for the past ten years. Marine One flies POTUS from OHare to McCormick Place parking lot where motorcade is staged. Parking lot is almost completely surrounded by garbage trucks or snow plows.
Yep did that in SLC when Obama stayed the night in like...2014. He stayed at a hotel downtown and the city block perimeter was outlined with large vehicles like you mentioned. They also have several motorcades that drive from the airport to make it less obvious which one POTUS is in I think. It was pretty cool to see the city shut down when the cops blocked all traffic and like 13 black SUVs came flying by at 60 mph.
