I would love to give him a pass, but unless he helped talk him in to retiring, I can't find one. FYI, Long Island in general did see some movement in this election cycle. We outed a very popular Republican in my local district election by a good 20%. She had served for 8 years and was actually pretty good for the community, but the D wave definitely continued to have an impact. I looked at King's district and I think the same may have happened. As far as King being an Islamophobe, I am not giving him a pass because it was wrong and he is a fucking asshole. Just providing some context for how it may have gotten to where it was. Many people in his district are in the NYFD and NYPD and they did lose a lot of people during 9/11 between first responders and wall street types.

100% this. There are some areas with minority voters, some hispanic (epicenter for some MS-13 hysteria). But its a district thats heavy on Fox News viewers and has been drunk off Trumpism. More akin to NY-1 than the Nassau districts. It can be won, but will take strong candidate. Gillibrand has had a lot more success on Long Island than the reps the DNC has trotted out there.
