I was looking at smart ones to work with my hue lights. 30 feet basically gets you the door frame right.
is there a best way to hang the icicle lights off the top of my house? i used plastic hooks with double sided tape but some of them chipped the paint on my house so trying to avoid that this year. is there some magic tool I don't know about that will hang these without me having to pound nails in my house?
I can post a pic of mine later if anyone wants, but it's very basic...I just adhered a strip of waterproof lights around the wooden door frame with adhesive and a few clear push pins to support everything. here are a few videos that I thought were helpful for whole-house setups. Spoiler: more elaborate options
I don't have a nighttime shot, but this little strip is one of the most vivid things on the street. The strip is waterproof, but the power supply and controller aren't, so I put those in a ziploc bag inside of a shoebox. The black box and green wire are for other things. Spoiler
So I don't know shit about this, but looking at the amazon page they are "cuttable" how does that work with powering the lights? edit: Also, is the attached adhesive strip sufficient or do I need anything additional to adhere to brick/metal/wood
I've never had to cut, but my understanding is that you'd still need to run a wire between the strips to maintain power. I've seen that used if you have a ledge or place where you want a break in the light. The adhesive might be ok indoors, but in my application (wood), I reinforced it with push pins every few feet. Brick would be a no go with the adhesive it comes with
Two days before starting bathroom renovations (1 week before Thanksgiving) my oven broke. Two days before completing renovations my dryer has broke. Tried YT no clear easy fix, repair man came out said part needed out of stock everywhere with no ETA, appears to not be made anymore. 3 months out of the 1 year warranty. Life is fun.
So lets say I need less length, I cut the end off where there is slack, the lights before that will still light up?
no such thing as too much WiFi. I had our IT guy build and install a Ubiquti enterprise network in our plaster walled home and I haven’t seen a budding donut since.
Wife thought about the same thing, she loves leaving notes and stuff so she thought it was a great idea. I walked up and drew on it and from that point forward, she has never brought it up again. My picture which resolved the issue is spoilered below Spoiler {/spoiler]
I did this for the first three years in our house then stopped because it is a fucking awful headache and nothing seemed to hold up.
Try putting a nail at the very top. Hang a small wire or fishing line from it. Add a couple loops in the wire. Use a zip tie to connect the garland to a loop. Repeat this process on at least the opposite side, probably more secure if you do it on all 4 sides. Report back how this works. I don’t want to try it my place until I know if it will work.
My dad was over helping with demo on the masterbathroom while I'm out of town for two weeks. Needed to turn off the water under the sink. Somehow damaged the manifold. Called a plumber out who quoted him 1k. Hoping that somehow the home warranty will help but probably not.
Never heard of that but I’m not a Plummer. I guess my next question would be why is the manifold in your bathroom?
Under the kitchen sink which is the entry point for the house. Was trying to turn off water there. Sounds like a bit of a nightmare.
2 things. 1) Built in closets that aren't from IKEA are expensive as fuck. 2) Anyone got a good recommendation for an in home safe? Don't need something massive, just something in that 3x2 range where I can store valuables, spare cash, jewelry, and stuff like that.
Got my garage doors balanced today. Only needed one new spring and some spring tightening on the other other door.
Nail at the top, nail at the bottom. Wrap this around your garland, its strong yet pliable and will hold its shape. https://www.homedepot.com/p/OOK-16-Gauge-x-200-ft-Galvanized-Wire-50143/100141392
it took 3 different techs troubleshooting to determine the gas valve was calling for gas before the rest of the stuff had a chance to boot up and it was going straight into lockout mode. Replaced the Gas valve and works fine now.
one other thing, how would you recommend running power to each pillar? one extension cord for each pillar i'm assuming, to a splitter at the outlet?
The guy they sent out was telling me a story about some dude that got the skin ripped off of his arm after a spring broke while he was fucking around with them. Then the guy offered to come back out to my house and help install my new garage door openers on his day off, nice fella.
Garage door springs have been around for how long, 80 years maybe? And we can't come up with something better than a part that can rip your skin off?
Neighborhood drama this evening, can’t wait to hear the rumors of the story. All I know is that it involved one grown man yelling at another grown man (his neighbor) in the yard and cops arrived shortly after.
I think I ended up with this one. No complaints. https://www.lowes.com/pd/SentrySafe...ronic-Keypad-Residential-Floor-Safe/999919270
Might be able to top that. Came out of business dinner to find a FB group chat between my dad who is demolishing my bathroom and the bff who has decided she wants to study for finals in the master bedroom. I'm like, the house is 3500^'. Surely there is somewhere else you can study. Anyways, by the end of the conversation I had asked her to move out of the house which I primarily bought for her. So that's fun.
