He put up 2.9 WAR in 106 games last year. He’s got 2 years left on his contact at just under $20 per and a $15 team option for year 3. Braves could do a lot worse.
His defense is falling off rapidly and he’s been a league average hitter for 3 years You’d be paying that much for infield Kakes
Kyle Seager had more WAR last year coming off hand surgery and only playing 106 games than Nick Markakis has had in 10 years. Nick Markakis has surpassed 2.9 WAR exactly twice ever. Kyle Seager had another good year defensively last year. The Braves may not want to give up the prospects necessary to get him, but pretty much everything you’ve said about him is wrong. If Kyle Seager wasn’t wasting away on shit teams in Seattle, he’d be a star.
There is still an opportunity to sign Castellenos and/or put a trade together for another bat. At this point though I don't see any trades happening til the deadline. I refuse to believe this is the lineup we are bringing to opening day. It's one thing to just go cheap to be cheap, and not sign all those bullpen pieces. But to do what we did early in free agency with all those arms and then turn around and do nothing to improve the lineup wouldn't make any sense. Liberty is, for lack of a better word, pragmatic. And doing what we are doing makes no sense baseball wise or business wise.
Seager is left-handed, which isn't an ideal fit. Offense has been simply slightly above-average the last three seasons as opposed to well above-average. 7 years/$100M (2015-21) signed extension with Seattle 12/2/14 $3.5M signing bonus 15:$4M, 16:$7.5M, 17:$10.5M, 18:$18.5M, 19:$19M, 20:$19M, 21:$18M, 22:$15M club option 2022 option may increase by $5M to $20M based on award and plate appearances, with buyout ranging from none to $3M with trade, 2022 becomes player option
Hey let’s get Seager and when everyone fucking hates him in July we can all pretend that Lou or Tobias made this point preseason so they can feel like they were right for once
I'm not opposed to letting Goat and Riley man the hot corner, but we damn sure better get a stud for the OF.
Think we could sweet talk the Mariners for Seager and Haniger? They seem like they would take a nice package of prospects, and have a need for Ender
Haniger tore it up in MLB the Show when I traded for him, but I believe the game assumes he has both testicles. In reality, I'd be all over that trade (assuming Haniger's testicular health is OK). Think he'd fit in nicely.
The Mets shock the world and name Mike Francesca manager. Then they shock the world again by going 0-162.
Pretty sure they repaired the ruptured testicle and did not remove it. So he still technically has two testicles though I can not speak to the functionality of the damaged one.
Hopeful me says this means we are gonna look for an OF bat to replace JD in the lineup but jaded Braves fan me knows this means we are punting
I mean, goat, Riley, and some Hecchy should let us keep a decent third. But I want some firepower in the OF like when we were promised Upton, Upton, and Heyward and got trash
This Hechy signing was going to happen regardless. We need the depth with or without adding another "big bat"
they’re really going to punt on this window stop going to games and putting money in these assholes’s pockets
No shit. Acuna and Albies and Freddie locked in on the cheap and this is what we put around them. Let's wait until we are sinking millions in arbitration into our young guys like Fried to address it
God, this is absolute bullshit. I've been reticent to call out ownership's lack of interest in competing in hopes of a bigger push once they felt we were close. Now it's completely obvious they don't give a single fuck about this team or the fanbase. Corporate ownership is the absolute goddamn worst.
