I have mixed feelings about this. However, considering Martin's involvement I imagine it has a much higher chance of succeeding. Edit: I just realized this is a full series order not just a pilot order. Yeah, they are all in.
We'll see if my bitterness regarding all things GoT will be over by the time the series finally premieres. Probably not though lol
Lots of stuff to work with here -Aegon I conquest -The sons of Aegon are a super interesting time period -The Dance of Dragons All three would be awesome
I am a bitter asshole of the "Dany was my favorite character" variety. This series order kills me because House Targaryen is by far my favorite house and there is so much material to work with. However, it irks me that they are now trying to cash in on House Targaryen's popularity after the way the house ended in the main series. Dany was thought of as the last dragon for 95% of the story and perfectly embodies House Targaryen and they took a huge fat dump on her character in season 8. I look at this the same way I looked at the Long Night series and pretty much anything regarding GoT now - why should I care and get emotionally invested considering the way the main series ended? I'll be ready to claw my eyes out when Aegon the Conquerer is portrayed as an anti-hero who was right to unite the 7 Kingdoms after, again, the way they portrayed Dany - aka the character who is canonically called Aegon the Conqueror with teats in the books. Also if this does cover through the Dance of Dragons I'm not sure why we need to see the same story repeat itself on-screen with Rhaenyra and Daenerys. I'll stop derailing the thread now lol.
I find them a lot more interesting once the Dragons are gone... basically, just fucking give us Dunk and Egg you cowards
Give me a Bloodraven series before Dunk and Egg. It preludes it with a slight overlap. Hand of the King to 3 kings and that timeframe would cover the major Blackfyre rebellions I do want both but I’d rather it be sequential and gives GRRM time to write D&E
I mean he’s already written the outlines of the next two novellas and clearly seems more interested in writing non-ASOIAF stuff in Westeros If I was a betting man I bet She-Wolves is already written but he wouldn’t just release one novella at a time
Bet HBO hates D&D for what they turned the show into. Was the most popular TV show ever and they basically turned it into a Hollywood meme. HBO was guaranteed years of GoT related stuff within GRRM's universe, now there's such a sour taste when its mentioned.
Who says D&D don’t have talent? I went from a super nerd who spent way too much of my free time reading and writing about ASOIAF to not giving a shit about the series in the span of 3 months. That's impressive.
So you guys won’t be watching the show due to a couple guys that won’t have anything to do with said show?
not to say that D & D are off the hook but to think that HBO wasn’t fully aware of what they were doing is pretty dumb. Let’s not go saying that they were blindsided by D & D. They can reap what they sowed
He's probably ran out of rejected storylines from his books to try to string into plot ideas for the show.
Like the actor. Certainly not what I imagined but he’ll probably be good at being an ineffectual fuck
Was a good king who made a bad decision. Was thinking they’d get a fat guy considering the way he died but really like the actor
So does this mean they’re starting off with the Dance of the Dragons? No Aegon, Maegor, or Jaehaerys?
pretty solid choice. Gonna be interesting who they get for Aemond and Aegon II. A solid Aemond casting will go a long way
HBO has so much riding on this show. nail it and you revive a franchise with endless potential, blow it and it’s over.
Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen has me the most pumped, think I’m going to be able to get into this despite the George and Benioff and Weiss hatred
Gonna be interesting to see where this actually starts in the history of things. Would think Paddy will have a Sean Bean amount of screen time before getting the poison
not exactly blown away by these character designs. my friend called it "Inhuman quality" for people who watch MCU shows and I thought that was harsh, but not entirely wrong.
HBO really needs to nail this though. if this is a hit it's 5 more shows. if this bombs, the whole universe is dead.
