They don't have the bills those now, are those bills completely cancelled and never paid again or are they going to be prorated or outright due once this policy finishes? How much money have we already pumped into the economy? Why is it a huge deal to give people actual money that they may never get in their lives, money that would literally help them climb out of poverty which would only benefit the entire country. The middle class in this country has shrunk so much since the housing crisis and it is going to be absolutely decimated if people don't get any real assistance.
Speak for yourself. If you get a check and want to leave it as a tip for a to-go order from Outback, do your thing. Hell, hand it to your neighbor the bartender. But I'm buying a new full suspension mountain bike and a new set of mountaineering boots.
Like we've spent trillions of dollars on tax cuts already, maybe we can just literally give that money to people which would probably be roughly this amount over a few months.
you can’t do that, because the risk of fraud arguments is too high. So you just give it to everyone and hope the ones lucky enough not to need it like you either donate it or spend it on useless shit. the spending on it of useless shit, like 500 pairs of shoes or a $1000 tip on to go food, stimulates the economy.
same but I can’t do any of that crap my self so we have dug into the equity line. assuming we get trump bucks going to get a new patio
So basically give $6k to a family that make $4k a month who has budgeted a way to live on that. But have no bills. And then expect the rich to pay for it? Nope
Honestly I'd at least rethink that mentality. They've been wasting trillions on useless shit at the DOD for our entire lifetimes. If you don't want it, just donate it to someone who needs it, or go buy shit for your local public school, or a billion other charitable ideas.
I said earlier that I'd give it to someone. I just want ys to use our resources in the best way possible.
Read the article and don’t just stop at the tweet, but reading the article may get in the way of caping up for Trump, right? You pretty much nailed it.
It would be a boom to the economy. With the shift to work from home tech companies would skyrocket. It would just be a massive stimulus all around.
we literally have endless money there isn't some vault in fort knox where they'd walk in and be like welp guess we're out
You can take the money and buy what you need. Save the excess. Then use the rest on bills, debt, charity, or that collection of stovepipe hats you’ve always wanted in 8 months. It doesn’t really matter.
It's insane how much money my wife and I spend eating out. I can't think of the last time we didn't go to a sit down restaurant at least twice in a week.
it would be a greater waste of resources to figure out “who really needs it” instead of just giving it to everyone. money isn’t real. This would be the inverse of trickle down, hoping the money floods up and raises the economic ark with it.
Haven't even had coffee yet but this made me laugh I'll check back in 5 pages when this dbl back and forth is done
It will devalue the currency though if you flood the market with it. It might be necessary at this moment in time, but there is some blowback to it.
Please don't use inflation scare tactics during a crisis. Our economy is not under threat from inflation. It hasn't been in years. Money is basically free and nothing is happening.
The mother fucker won't ever back down and this thread is already flying this morning. Can we move it to another thread
It’s amazing how the mind of a Trump supporter works. 1 week ago it was this giant democratic conspiracy to ruin Donny and destroy his reputation while tanking the economy. Now after they kind of start to realize that’s it’s a bigger deal than they thought, they are telling themselves that Donny has been a fearless leader in this fight and has taken it seriously long before anyone else. These people are so far gone it’s sad.
It was just one week ago yesterday Rudy Gobert tested positive, and escalated everything to shut down. Feels like a month
Need to start a thread on means testing. Cram in everyone worried about a family getting an extra thousand dollars a month and scuttle the thread at sea.
We're pretty much the exact opposite. Budget $200/month for eating out and usually don't come close to that. But we have 3 kids too.
I'm just picturing some guy opening the door, dropping his jaw and coffee mug and screaming SHIIIIIIIT! DAN! WE'RE ALL OUT!
It's not an inflation scare tactic. It's just a thing that will happen. It's definitely necessary at this moment once you legally mandate that businesses close. You can't shut down the economy then tell the people who lose their jobs over it to deal with it.
dbl talking about resource management when he has dozens, dozens!, of workout and running shoes yet doesn’t work out and doesn’t run
I'll take my check from the gov't and flip that in the market with some gains for charity. Although my gf in school who was planning on bartending to pay pills while doing so is SOL at the moment so this will be very helpful for us
It's a red herring. Places like Allende's Chile that saw insane inflation were almost all being actively sabotaged by the US, formally and covertly.
Some can weather whatever is coming. Others not so much. We have a *theoretical* $100k+ household income but I’m an accountant able to work remotely for the state and my wife is an SLP that just lost a ton of hours due to school closures and her only other option is going to peoples’ homes for treatment at the moment. All it takes is 1 of those people to pass it to her and she’d be spreading it to each of them so I don’t know how long that can last. In the meantime, her refinanced student loans that no longer fall under the federal government’s holdings have P&I due each month, plus every other recurring bill we have that no one is going to suddenly postpone or excuse. We may or may not need to supplement our income with those relief checks. Rest assured, whatever is above and beyond will be helping to support local businesses. I’m anxious right now but fully understand that we’re in a much better position than most, including a lot of TMB posters.
