The fact that people who are lucky enough for their companies to pay them their normal wages while sitting at home, retain their job, or have life saving savings (either doing actual work or trying to scheme the system by putting their mouses in their dryer) are going to receive a lot of extra cash that they don’t need does not outweigh the millions of people that lost or will lose their job because of this pandemic who actually need the money to survive, save, and establish a tiny amount of transferable money.
Can Cuomo be put in charge of this nationally? watching him calmly explain what's going on, with a clear plan, and trying to stop panic is very nice to see compared to the federal response this far
Much of our supply comes from China and the supply virtually stopped over the last few weeks. They are now in production again and we will begin receiving more. Don’t know if it will be enough and in time.
True, krstom just woke on the same mu receptors but she a ton of different alkaloids that so random stuff too. THC had way more testing, but yeah stigma is real.
The big winners I think. By the time we return to business as usual I think opposing pitchers might have lost a bit of their anger.
There is a small percentage of people who would receive this money who don’t need it. Therefore it’s a bad idea to give out the money to the millions upon millions who need it to survive.
testing is frozen at least locally here, can't imagine the rest the state has the capability either. our already paltry testing ability is now not even working. also everyone getting really angry protection precaution protocols are being dictated by supply and not evidence, in their minds putting all the healthcare workers at risk because of obvious failures federally.
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/...aces-regulatory-logistical-obstacles-n1161651 Building the supply chain and switching your assembly machinery to build ventilators takes a long time, not to mention the red tape you have to jump through to get the machinery certified.
Am I wrong in thinking that we may get to a point where people who have tested positive and resolved will be removed from social distancing initiatives provided that it is proven that there is no reinfection possible? if so, as this goes along the issues related to distancing and working will slowly lessen.
Once we have our version of these types of scenes people will start understanding. been solidly in wtf mode since seeing the scenes from china that made it through their censors.. not sure what the disconnect is exactly, but it's real and massive
This makes sense. But think about the competing interests of building measurable proportions of society to reintroduce into system. Great 60M now immune and back in society! Oh, 2% of those died... and 250m+ still at risk...
We don't want to give stimulus to billionaires! Gives a trillion+ dollar tax cut to mostly billionaires.
is that going to be monthly indefinitely? I figured it would be one or 2 payments to get people on level footing. I agree with suspending payments and giving less cash makes a bit more sense. I also think you can means test down the road. I agree with not doing it now. Just get something to the people. You can means test down the road when you figure out how you want to do it and get more money into the hands of people that need it
Hello....me? Literally everything you described in your post is my situation except my wife works in a clinic vs. school. Her clinic is really pushing them to get training on Telehealth immediately. I really don't want her to go back to home based therapy as she did that for years but it could be our only option depending on how long the clinic where she works stays closed. Her grad school loans murdering us also.
The thing I don’t understand about this is let’s say for arguments sake that all republicans are evil and only care about enriching billionaires and staying in power. This virus disproportionately impacts older people. Older people are more likely to vote republican. Acting slowly and making the wrong decisions hurts them more than democrats. Incompetence just seems more likely than malice because of their selfishness and need to stay in power.
i like that we argued in here about the utility of universal policies and the impact on high income folks and the GOP are like what if we didn't give it to poor people instead
dblplay1212 a good way to think of this imo is that people 1000x richer than you aren't averse to taking whatever the government is giving so you probably shouldn't feel bad about getting a measly 6k.
I mean this is a good thing. The CDC royally fucked this whole thing up. The buck stops with the leader but The testing issues are primarily the fault of the CDC. They made promises they couldn’t keep, didn’t quality test their corona tests well enough, didn’t think to start other aspects of the supply chain needed to run the tests before it was too late and then lied about all of it. You could argue that the CDC head should just be fired but that’s tough right now. They are sidelined because others are fixing their mistakes. The head of the CDC has been grossly incompetent.
You may have seen this. Posted it yesterday. There's an easy, widely-available computer program that will evaluate the primers and tell you if they have errors. The CDC clearly did not perform that check. "For reasons that remain unclear, the CDC opted to design its own COVID-19 test with new primers despite the fact that the World Health Organization had already approved a test developed by German scientists." https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/...nce-in-its-attempt-to-make-a-coronavirus-test
thanks for providing more detail for what I am trying to say. Battling trump who didn’t take the virus seriously is bad enough but the incompetence of the CDC is truly why we are in such bad shape. Thousands will die because the CDC spent a month lying, working in a completely incompetent way or likely both. The actions of the CDC look similar to a Wall Street investment firm running a Ponzi scheme. Incompetence and lies until it becomes too much or something major happens and you get caught.
i will use my $2k check on something essential: donating it all to tmb under the caveat that dbl is banned from posting in every thread on here for one calendar year
If all my bills are suspended, what do I need money for? Food and toilet paper? What will people be spending money on? I'm not saying the answer is nothing, but what monthly expenses will people have with no mortgage, car payment, cc bills, student loan payments, rent, etc??
whatever the privileged buy. Cabins, toys, planes, trains, automobiles. the production of which stimulates the economy.
