Godby staff already got the antenna up for poaching is what I hear lol every coach in town is like "fuckin fuck"
The program is actually not in a bad place, and they were already winning. There is a whole lot of drama at Valdosta right now with regards to race, though. They fired Rodemaker, who already had a state championship in his 4 years and was also a good guy. A few months ago, the board had a meeting to confirm the extension of his contract. The black members of the board had schemed in private to vote against the extension so they could hire a black coach (race has always been a point of contention with football in valdosta). I know a few coaches personally they contacted who just flat out refused to give them the time of day, even though it would have been a major upgrade. People just don't want to deal with all the drama going on there at the moment. Valdosta is a hell of a school with a lot of talent (same for their rival Lowndes), but the politics there are something else. A head baseball coach got fired last year at either Lowndes or valdosta just because he cut a well to do booster member's son.
That last part was Lowndes and way more to the story than that. But yeah the Valdosta football part is absolutely correct. It’s embarrassing
I mean, as long as they’re not killing people and rolling them up in wrestling mats I think things are swell at Valdosta and Lowndes.
Didn't they hire the OL coach last year? From the little I was around him while I was in Tallahassee, I really liked him as an OL guy. Seems like he knows his stuff. I'm not so sure that there's any more of a threat for recruiting those Tallahassee schools than there was when he was at Moultrie. It's not like Valdosta is closer to Tallahassee.
Yeah I'm not really connected to the baseball side of South GA, so I assumed there had to be more to it.
I don't care who Buford has as their head coach, as long as they keep their enrollment up to be in the higher classifications. That run they had in the lower classifications should be embarrassing as hell for them. Limited their school size while picking from a pool of close to a million people and playing against schools in towns with 10-20k. I remember one year their whole OL averaged more than any SEC OL. Madison County in FL is doing the same thing to a smaller extent right now. They shouldn't be in the class they are in, but have a separate alternative type school that doesn't count in their enrollment numbers. Real shady stuff but more and more schools are doing it (brooks just did it to drop to 1A here)
Rick Darlington had some stories to tell from his tenure at Valdosta. Said the best decision he ever made was leaving.
Yep my dad and him used to talk a good bit. Valdosta has always been a place you can win at but you'll be miserable. Perfect spot for someone like Rush
I seem to remember that cell phone data put the Bell kid on a bus to a wrestling match at the time of the murder/death.
I don't think it has ever been officially changed from an accidental death. Bell went and played at Akron and I think even had a camp invite last year to either the browns or Bengals
If I remember correctly, it was bus logs that showed he was on a trip for wrestling. Always heard that the bus hadn't left yet when the video showed Kendrick go into that gym, but who knows whats true.
I lived down there for 4 years after college so I’ve got a little bit of an idea. Glad I got out of there.
Fun story of Valdosta. We were staying at some hotel the night before our game with a Waffle House next to it. One of the GAs ended up getting laid in the Waffle House parking lot. I am 100% sure he caught something.
I drive my the new Valdosta high school a few years ago. That shit was nice, I just remember the other school when we played them in baseball. It's funny what happens when schools start recruting. Lee county just said fuck it and started pulling all the Albany kids. They were always a baseball powerhouse but sucked in football until recently. Albany had so many good players but good god their coaching is a Trainwreck.
They had three from peach County two years ago. On their TV game from that year, the only highlights they had of the kids were Peach County highlights. They even have the balls to list their out of county population for their whole school at 0. GHSA won't do shit to them, either.
I GA'ed there for a year while my brother was playing there. It's definitely one of the better D2 atmospheres out there.
SIAP but the first game back is against Colquitt County. https://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/valdosta-wildcats-(valdosta,ga)/football/schedule.htm
Uh family in Atlanta. There’s a lot better schools with a winning tradition to play for than a shit school 3 hours from ATL.
Valdosta is a shitty place but to say there’s a lot of better schools with a winning tradition than them is dumb.
School wise Valdosta High couldn’t be shittier. Football program takes a backseat to Lowndes every year.
Not every year. lowndes had a good run for a while, after Valdosta fell off some. Think Valdosta has almost a 2 to 1 advantage win wise but lowndes has been much more consistent recently.
A kid from Southern California chose to move to Valdosta, Ga. Those are the decision-making skills I want to see in my quarterback!
my car broke down near there on my way back to FSU and my first interaction with the locals was this fat, little 9-10 year old coming up to my car and asking if I had an extra cig
6A in Georgia is way weaker than 7A which is the highest class. Minus a couple Atlanta schools they could compete easily.
