While it is always reassuring to buy PSA 10s and BGS 9.5s, I'd encourage you guys to take a look at pop reports before paying a premium for a Gem Mint. For example, Luka Doncic Prizm Base PSA 10s are going for $500-$550 right now. Raw versions are doing $180-200. It has a pop report of 71% PSA 10 Gem Mints. This is a very easy set to grade. So instead of buying one PSA 10 - buy 3 raw versions and there is a pretty good chance one of them will Gem. Bowman Chrome is typically a pretty easy set to grade so if you can get 2-4 versions of a card for the price of a PSA 10, I'd strongly encourage that route.
Its sound advice for the expensive cards, but isn't it $20 / card to submit to PSA for grading? I may have been able to grab two un graded Casey Mize cards for cost of the psa 10 I got, but the other cards I bought were in the $25-50 range graded 10, so not worth the multiple submission prices hoping to get one to hit at 10. I may take that strategy up though trying to hit on a Riley Greene 10. It still amazes me how high his stuff is selling for. I can buy a Buster Posey auto chrome refractor 1st bowman card numbered to 500 as a PSA 10 for around $322. The equivalent ungraded Greene (/499) are selling for $284 ungraded. I guess I'm failing to see the upside on his card, because I see little chance of him being the next Trout or something and basically he would need to be that level to have his card end up being worth more than it is going for now. And we are talking the 30-40th best prospect in baseball in most rankings who hasn't played a game past low a. I really want to get a tigers prospect collection going but I just can't justify that price no matter how many times I get close to buying one
Cards valued under $100 are $8 per card in a PSA bulk order. But you are correct that cost + time it takes to get the card back can influence a decision on a PSA 10. I'm stubborn so I don't typically buy PSA 10s unless they're a tough set. You're spot-on in your Greene analysis. I wouldn't be pumping too much money into him right now. If a season ever does occur and he comes out of the gate struggling, his stuff will drop, and then you can get the PC card you wanted for a fair price. It's almost criminal that a good prospect has as much hobby as one of the best catchers of the last 20 years but that's the hobby for ya! It doesn't always make sense.
Last one to sell on ebay went for $215 Or you can get the edited version where they put a black box over that for $36
I’m jonesing for some cards so bad, but all I can find around here is topps and Gypsy Queen blasters and Ive bought too much of those to not much luck
What did it cost you to get the Braves in the break. I've seen them going for close to 150 sometimes.
Do the Bowman next top 20 autos hold any value? Much more reasonable price on Greene, but if they aren't going to increase in value it wouldn't be worth it.
Picked up some packs for the first time in years this morning. Few packs of the Gypsy Queens and Series 1. Nothing special but def have the itch already.
So Monday is my birthday and I got restless today. I’d gone last week by vintage stock looking for sleeves and top loaders, and they had Topps Tribute packs for $60 and had Inception boxes for $70. Went back and they had 2 packs of tribute, got those and 1 box of Inception. I’m scared to open and be let down lol
Happy birthday, and DAMN that’s a good deal on the Inception from what I’ve seen. Cheapest I’ve seen them is around 120 on ebay
Post office has lost yet another one of my cards. I need it for a set, it's a /10. White people problems.
Give it a minute. Post office is really fucked up right now. I just had an order I bought a month ago and post office hadn't updated any tracking info since being in NY on April 20th. I got a refund on ebay yesterday assuming it was lost (been in mail a month and no shipping updates in 3 weeks). Today post office tracking updated it saying it was processed through the town next to mine this morning. I'll probably have to throw a RTS on it now since I bought some other cards in meantime assuming it was lost
I don't think you understand, these idiots show they delivered it May 2nd. It's a PO Box at the post office's main hub, it's a locked/keyed box only I (and them) have access to. They fucked up, again.
I forgot who it is exactly but he got the 1of1 trout cards from project 20 and he listed it on eBay just like 2 hours ago and it’s already close to 3 grand. Can’t wait till my 1of1 trout comes in I’m gonna be rich.
So what other payment methods are the kids these days using? I'm close to having to shut my Paypal down and I don't know what else is out there.
If you hit $20,000 in a year then Paypal 1099s your ass. I'll hit 20k sold in less than a month so I need to find some other options. Not about to get treated like a business for my hobby, already made that mistake once.
Damn you moving a lot. But I see on payment pages credit cards are accepted. May limit your buying pool though if people can't use paypal.
Its 2 am, I should be going to sleep and don't always check what my phone auto corrects words to. I am saying if you're selling on eBay and don't use eBay, you may lose potential buyers
Dude. Tell me about it. Got a letter from the IRS out of the blue last April for my 2017 taxes demanding a payment of $18k after Paypal showed my sales at $30k for the year. Had to go through every card I sold that year and estimate what I paid for it. Ultimately, my CPA filed for a $500 return because I spent more than my payments received that year. Now I'm currently doing the same thing for 2018 on 2,600 transactions. So much fun!! Fuck Paypal. I'd love to sell everything through Instagram and use Venmo but you've obviously got to build up a name and also have people trust you to not steal their money. If there's one person you can trust it's a guy on the internet saying you can trust him!
So I’m wanting/hoping to get a box of Topps Chrome and Bowman hobby here soon. Where do you guys recommend buying from? Blowout?
What does everyone do with all your base cards you get? IF you are keeping them what is the best way to store them and also how are you guys storing your larger top loaders?
The Brailyn Marquez auto I wanted came up on Ebay. He wanted 300. I offered 275 he declined and countered. Then he took an offer of $250.
I use some of them for dummy cards when shipping items but sadly most of them just get thrown away if they aren't of a good player. I'd find myself keeping all of them, sorting them into team lots, and then they'd sell for $6 and it cost $5 to ship. It just wasn't worth my time. 4-row BCW boxes are good for storing a lot of cards. They also make taller boxes to fit graded cards.
Well my son wants to keep them all which is fine but I’m thinking I just sort them by sport and put into boxes, the base cards that is. I’m trying to teach him the value of things and how to properly take care of an investment. We have our teams we collect just for fun then after that he’s just after the fun of collecting cards., then we have cards we are hoping increase in value and we can sell or trade for other cards.
I just started, and have kind of enjoyed it. It makes the hunt enjoyable so that if you don't hit something that you like, you may hit something nice that will sell for at least some of your money back/occasionally a lot more
I wish i was smarter as a kid, I bought a bunch of worthless cards because I liked having cards of all the players. So many Score, Topps total and other cheap sets laying in boxes collecting dust. The amount i spent on cards as a kid i could have a lot more nice ones than I do. I haven't gotten rid of any yet, but I should. Only card I've sold so far is found some random pokemon cards I got as a kid and never used, sold one for $67. I need to start selling though to finance some new purchases. I have a wife and a joint bank account so I can't go crazy buying new cards if I don't supplement it with some sold stuff. But I also have a son coming so I can start using him as an excuse haha
The latter half has been my struggle lately. I want to buy some of these nicer boxes coming out for the chance of getting some value, but hard to justify spending the level of money it’s requiring.
I also may wait until things get a little better to buy anymore because of the situation with the post office at the moment. They are a mess. I have only bought 6 cards and sold 1 so far (although I have 3 more I bought last night, should have thought about it before doing it) Of the 6 I bought 3 arrived slightly late (no big deal and is expected) 1 was bought over a month ago, went three weeks without tracking info, got a refund, day after getting refund tracking info showed up in city next to mine. 3 days later hasn't been updated since or delivered) 1 was supposed to be delivered today and the tracking status now says delivered, but my dog barks at the mailman everyday and I picked up my mail 30 seconds after it was delivered and it was not in the mail (hopefully it shows up tommorow) 1 was supposed to be delivered Friday, but has now not had any tracking updates in 4 days....getting worried about this one now And the 1 I sold The post office didn't bother scanning it I guess when I dropped it off. It went 6 days after I put it in the mail before a post office scan showed up. I am also sending it from Michigan to Kansas and the scan that showed up 6 days later was in Elk Grove, IL. No scan in 2 days since then.
If I bought packs now I would probably sell dupes and whatnot, but right now I’m just buying singles off of eBay and Beckett. My dad engrained in me as a little kid to never sell your cards haha. He collected as a kid and when he got into college he sold a lot of insanely good cards (1955 Bowman Mickey Mantle, rookie Hank Aaron, etc) He told me later on he regretted the shit out of it. My mom actually tried to help him get some of his collection back. He told her about a card he needed and she went looking for it thinking it would be <$50. When she found out it was an $800 card she was like fuck that your on your own lol.
How long did you wait to report you didn't get the item? The one I sold said the same thing for 6 days after I put it in the mail. I bought postal insurance and was getting worried I wouldn't even be able to get insurance if it got lost because no one ever scanned it. I'm just glad a scan showed up even if it hasn't been delivered yet so now I at least can use the insurance. The most expensive card I bought has been "in transit to next facility " for 4 days now. I'm not sure how long to wait before doing something on that card. Was supposed to be delivered Friday
