Not sure if there is one of these going around, but I've always been a huge sports nut. Started collecting again recently. Anybody have some cool stuff they collect or want to possibly trade off?
Collected as a kid but not in a while. Best pull I ever got was from a $20 box of minor league hockey cards I bought because I worked for the plymouth whalers at the time, this card was in it Mine isnt graded but it's only photo I can find online with the same card
I’ve got a fair amount of pretty cool stuff but my father in laws collection is ridiculous. He had basically a guest house built just for all his memorabilia. He paid for both his daughters weddings by selling some of his stuff.
I got back into Sports cards about 6 months ago and have spent a stupid amount of money on them. Taking a bit of break until the 2019 stuff starts coming out again in January/ February. Best stuff I've pulled ( no pics because Im lazy): 1. Sandy Koufax 1/1 Topps Tribute Autograph 2. Ozzie Albies/Freddie Freeman/Dansby Swanson Topps Triple Threads Patch Auto /9 3. Kris Bryant/Anthony Rizzo/Ryne Sandberg Auto /9 4. A bunch of Short Print Ohtani Rookie Cards 5. 5 Gleyber Torres Rookie Autos 6. 2 SSP Acuna Topps Rookies And a bunch of other shit. Its very addicting.
Cards have pretty much lost all their value unless they are older 70’s and older. The market is so saturated with them.. it’s a shame really...
1989 Upper Deck Griffey is definitely on the Mt. Rushmore as far as baseball cards go. I buy/sell/collect cards pretty heavily still. Best card (and pull) is a Mike Trout 2009 Bowman Chrome PSA 10 Autograph from a pack at Vintage Stock on one of their BOGO days.
I don't even worry about price unless I'm trying to trade. These things are coming with me to the grave
This is true to an extent. Late 80's and 90's cards were so mass produced that even RC's of the most popular players aren't really worth a ton. The key is to get them graded out with a good grade and it significantly raises their value.
I have a 2016 Cubs World Series ball signed by the team and Theo had shit tons of baseball cards when I was a kid, of course. Only thing of value I have left is a set of 1973 Topps (Schmidt rookie)
I’ve got a few thousand cards my parents just gave to me when they cleaned out my stuff before they moved. Still have to go through them. I had a Griffey and Bonds rookie card plus. Shaq rookie.
That's the exciting part. Finding random stuff. Its hard for me to get excited about buying $200 worth of packs hoping to find a jersey patch autograph of a player I like. The market has went nuts recently.
I would sell the triple auto. Holding onto the Acuna's. I think he is gonna be the next Trout. I have an IG account dedicated to this shit ( nerd alert) @chasing_cards if you want to take a look.
I have a stupid amount of baseball football and basketball cards. Used to save up my money all summer then go to the local card shop when I was a kid. Off the top of my head my best card is probably a x/20 or 25 autographed Stan Musial card.
Back in the day you used to be able to slightly bend packs and ones with jersey cards in it wouldn't have any give because those cards were thick. But they have since put BS all white cards to stop this trick I think
I have a nice collection I suppose. I went on a binge back in 2005ish and was really buying tons of cards. Not into buying single cards, the thrill of pulling something nice from a pack is what sustains any desire I have to collect cards.
Yeah my dad just donated like 100k+ cards because the tax write off he could get was worth more than the cards themselves. He kept all his autographed cards and all that, he has a cool collection of jerseys/helmets/cards/pictures/prints autographed that is essentially mine which is nice.
That's good to hear. It was sad to know no kids were ever gonna get shit because adults with postage scales were in there snaking everything. I remember this was just starting when I quit collecting and there was one trick that was so obvious -- can't remember the set but they had "all insert" packs and the pack would be like twice as thick as normal
I'd give that Griffey a good look over. You're talking about a $30-50 card raw. If you can get it graded at a PSA 9, it's worth ~$100. If you can manage a PSA 10, you're looking at a $450-500 card.
I fell prey to the National Treasures-type stuff a few years ago where you get 1 pack with 4-5 'hits'. I've learned that instead of dumping money into boxes of high-dollar stuff, just buy the cards from the set that you want with that $200.
Went pretty hard in the paint with baseball cards back in the day, lost interest when the whole refractor phase went into overdrive, still have my collection though
I own Dwight Gooden’s autograph on a paper plate that a friend obtained while eating nachos st Three Rivers Stadium. I also have every card Topps made from 1981-86, usually doubles of them, collected them all Summer and then used to get the set for Christmas. I have a lot of other 1980’s stuff too, including a ball signed by the 1982 Orioles (Ripken, Jim Palmer, Eddie Murray, and Earl Weaver). I kept it all in a giant trunk I had in my bed room closet. My parents brought the trunk to me a few years ago and I discovered that I apparently also stashed several porn magazines there too. Those might be worth more.
Since a few of my gamecock brethren are in here, wheres the best place to get an authentic gamecock helmet
I have three but they were all gifts. I think that Safron place near the Greek Village sells them. If not, that dude would be able to tell you where to go.
collected a bunch in the mid-90's, stopped collecting because the market became ridiculous. got tired of spending 7-9 bucks on a pack of cards. Still have most of my stuff. Plan on giving them to Meatball when he's older. I'll still buy a random pack every now and then for shits and gigs
Have a few signed boxing gloves (Roy Jones Jr, Terence Crawford, Chad Dawson) and a signed Panthers KK Short jersey.
That's kinda what did it for me. Now it's like lottery tickets looking for numbered/signed/jersey patched etc. I go for quantity over high end quality
Got a whole lot of both categories. Most valuable is probably a sign Muhammad Ali boxing glove. Got a chance to get his signature and he personalized everybody’s and would draw random pictures to avoid resale. He drew a jet flying in the clouds on mine.
Have a decent and growing collection of autographed memorabilia. Had a ton of cards from when I was a kid but sold them all except the valuable ones, which I now regret with just having a son.
I have thousands of dollars worth of basketball, hockey, football and baseball Used to be worth tens of thousands I hate eBay
Have a Jordan signed ball and probably 500+ Jordan cards, in addition to tons of other bball cards from the 90s and early 2000s.
I have an autograph from elite NFL TE Jay Novacek from when the prodigal son returned to his gbr nfm Gothenburg NEBRASKA roots for a signing.
Friend of mine from high schools dad worked for the Bulls in the 90’s so they had like 3 Jordan signed game balls. Extremely jealous. I too have probably 500+ Jordan cards. I have 2 binders full of only Jordan cards.
We had one but there wasn't a ton of posts: https://www.the-mainboard.com/index...her-misc-memorobilia-nostalgia-thread.120616/
Had the star pack in the 80's, sold it in the 90's. Have had 4 or 5 Fleer Jordan's pass through my hands, I may still have one upstairs. I use to buy those packs often in the 80's when they came out and just throw the cards loose in the shoe box.
Best card I pulled was from a 98-99 Upper Deck Pavel Bure 1/1. This was the first year they did 1/1 and I probably could have sold it on EBay for $1k plus but held onto it for a year or two and then traded it for some 60’s and 70’s baseball cards and an Arod rookie card.
