Well, republicans cut taxes for the rich and cut programs for the poor and as everyone knows the only reason people are poor is because they don’t struggle enough. So, by making the poor struggle republicans are saving them from the dreadful life that comes when you have affordable housing, healthcare, childcare and college.

Kylebw1 showed me some kindness in a time of need and I appreciate him for that. For that reason I won’t pile on. I will attempt to explain why I think he is incorrect and hopefully it will resonate with him a bit and make him reconsider his opinion. This will be extremely elementary so forgive me. We live under an economic system (capitalism) who by definition needs to have unemployed and underemployed individuals. That drives competition for low skill jobs. That drives constant turnover and keeps wages for those jobs low. That happens because capitalism prioritizes product over people. Since we have capitalism and we have to have unemployment and underemployment we need to have safety nets. For both the workers and the unemployed. The safety nets for the workers come in the form of unions that fight for wages and benefits such as medical insurance. For the unemployed those safety nets come in the form of cash payments and medical insurance too but these are provided by the government. It’s the government’s responsibility to do so because they (by our economic system) cause the aforementioned under and unemployment. In a country as rich as the US there should be no one who is food insecure. There should be no one who is homeless. There should be no one who is worried about medical insurance. Out of the two major political parties there is only one who fights for the bare minimum of those things. If anything the Democratic Party doesn’t do enough. They will fight for a minimum wage and not for a living one. They will fight for work/job provided health care and not health care for all. They don’t fight for the right for housing for all. They don’t fight to fight to end food insecurity. But, they do 1000 times more than the republicans. The republicans say they want the market to decide. That the strong will survive and flourish but they will never admit that the cards are stacked and that not everyone can make it. Not everyone can have a job with a living wage because capitalism won’t allow it. For capitalism to succeed most people have to fail with few flourishing.
