Lady Antebellum's efforts to distance themselves from the image of black oppression conjured by their (former) name seems to be going well:
I assume you didn’t read the article? They just want to be able to use the name. They aren’t asking for money or for her to stop using the name. They also said the filed to be able to use the name in 2010 and no one opposed that.
All of which is true. I was more looking at the optics of the situation, that they had a name that literally meant "lady from pre-Civil War south", decided to change it for obvious reasons, and managed to select and trademark a name that a black lady had already been using and releasing music under. Looking at a few more articles, it looks like Lady A (a) was wanting a pretty large sum of money from Lady A (b) though.
it looks bad until you read about it and realize they have done everything correctly. They even said they filed paperwork to be able to use the name in 2010 and no one opposed it. Think she is just looking for a pay day.
Except change their name to someone who already had the name. If she wants a pay day, she should get one, no? It's bullshit that they change their name because of the racial connotations of it then have the lack of perspective to use something already utilized by a black blues artist.
I am not a fan of them so I don’t really care but if they filed to use the name in 2010 and no one objected I can’t see why they are being blamed for anything. I know it our current climate it’s hard to give someone the benefit of the doubt in a situation like this one, but it appears they really should.
You stole this joke but I'm going to give you the like anyhow because it's clever and I hope the dopamine rush of receiving that like will somehow get back to the original creator.
That's a really good point that I'd never thought about. When a city is using taxpayer dollars to pay people from another county to come in and work, that doesn't help the city economically at all. All that money is going outside the county and funding wealth in other areas. Paying people from the suburbs to drive in and arrest inner city people and then take their money back to the suburbs is pretty fucked up.
I was going to ask this - I've had to help with multiple epileptics going through episodes and I've never had them communicate and feel in control of their motions like that. But I'm certainly not a doctor or expert there. Doesn't excuse 10 hammer-fists to the head when three police were there obviously.
This Lead to this, facial and skull fractures OPB reports that his face and skull were fractured and that he finished facial reconstructive surgery early Sunday morning. “He still has a tube in his skull to drain the blood,” Desiree LaBella, Donavan’s mother, told The Oregonian/OregonLive. She added that he needs neurological checks every hour and is showing signs of confusion. https://www.oregonlive.com/news/202...th-impact-weapon-causing-severe-injuries.html And a Fox News Host celebrating
How is that considered ok? He's 100 feet from police. They are in no danger. His hands are above his head. That's attempted murder.
Might as well call it murder cause that man's life is not the same physically, emotionally, and cognitively
Wasn't Ngo the one testifying that libs were being mean to him? I'm not sure who this Fox dude is, but he is the Unclest of Toms alive.
Where I'm at, I can drive a couple miles down the road, walk into a store, and buy weed whenever I want. It's hard to rationalize how, in the same country, another guy can do the same thing and have his life completely ripped apart by the system. This is a long and appalling article about a disabled vet who is sentenced to 60 months for medical marijuana. Glad my ass doesn't live in Alabama anymore. https://www.alabamaappleseed.org/marijuana-reform/thrown-away/
The city of Berkeley, California, moved forward Wednesday with a proposal to eliminate police from conducting traffic stops and instead use unarmed civilian city workers as part of a broad overhaul of law enforcement. The City Council also set a goal of cutting the police budget by 50%. The council approved the plan during a nine-hour virtual meeting that ended at 3 a.m., the East Bay Times reported. https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2020/0...cil-oks-sweeping-changes-to-transform-police/
TIL that it's actually lawful to order someone out of their car if the reason for the stop (including traffic stops) was lawful. Had no idea. Also, fuck that cop for not just fucking explaining and for being a psychopath
