Yeah, I'd say that's a me too from me. I actually went out last night to order some to-go food and grabbed a beer while waiting. My roommate made a suggestion of staying at the bar while waiting with the masks on and I got a bit anxious just thinking abt it. We ended up sitting at a table outside and separate from others. Felt much better.
I was hoping they'd offer something where you can cancel and be reimbursed a pro-rated amount and then renew within your original window and still enjoy the 15% discount. Unfortunately, that was a big nope from them.
Seems like they’re reopening modified character dining bit by bit. Hope they are several options by end of year.
Kinda weird they are closing Hong Kong and not Orlando when Florida has more new cases than all of China combined.
yep, hk went under extreme measures after like 50 cases meanwhile we’re licking doorknobs and shit here
Variety reports that Disney World recently posted an amendment to its face covering policy by banning visitors from eating and drinking while walking around the park with their mask off. Anyway, this revision eliminates the loophole that people have been trying to exploit as a way of getting around the park's requirement that anyone over two years old must wear a face covering at all times. "Face coverings are required for all guests (ages 2 and up) and cast members," the park's site reads. "Please bring your own face coverings and wear them at all times, except when dining or swimming. You may remove your face covering while actively eating or drinking, but you should be stationary and maintain appropriate physical distancing." Disney World in Florida reopened its Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom parks last week after being closed for four months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As these venues were trying to get back into business, coronavirus cases in the state were spiking at an alarming rate. Since July 10, Florida has reported less than 10,000 daily cases just once. On July 15, a Disney spokeswoman announced, per NPR, that their park in Hong Kong would be temporarily closed again after the city saw a rise in coronavirus cases. A city health official told the Asia Times that the virus' spread in Hong Kong had gotten "a bit out of control." According to CNN, the re-closure was in response to 52 new cases
Is this a safe space to ask about planning for Universal as well? I haven't been there in what feels like 10 years, and thinking about going back in 2021 and it seems a lot different than it was when I went as a kid.
So on Disney you have to book so far in advance for meals, fast passes, and it's a significant benefit to stay on property for those reasons? Is Universal the same? How many days are needed to really enjoy both parks, and volcano bay if it's warm. Are the upsell fast passes worth it?
Uni does express pass for rides, you dont book those ahead of time. Staying on property you can get 1 extra hour in the morning for a park. Restaurant ahead of time is not really a thing either, but if there is something specific you want you can make a reservation for it (that's only really needed for places outside the parks as Uni doesnt really have in park restaurants that are worth it). You *could* do everything in 1 day (for the main 2 parks) but I'd say 2 days if you wanna relax and not stress. If doing Volcano Bay, make a whole day for that.
May not be an easy answer - but if doing 3 days, is it worth it to stay on the park or just nearby and pay for the express pass upsell? The 'on-park' hotels look like normal hotels that are just close by, is that right or am I missing something?
it's hard for me to answer that as it depends on your financial situation I will say Volcano Bay view rooms at Caban Bay are worth it, if you are used to paying disney hotel prices if you are tighter on budget/financials, then off property for Uni makes more sense than off property for Disney as it doesnt hurt as much from a benefits stand point
We normally stay at value resorts but that's mostly because I'm cheap - Volcano Bay view rooms are pretty reasonable compared to Disney room prices. Is Volcano bay a multi-day thing or one day pretty much covers it all?
one day should do you just fine I would also say im answering these questions with pre-covid answers. This area and travel won't be the same in 2021 so it will probably be cheaper than usual and waits won't be as bad. So take what I say with that in mind,
Just realized that dining reservations are no longer six months out (which is nice, actually). Still, gotta keep watch if that happens to change in the future.
Yeah, I am going to have to re-learn many of the "tricks of the trade". I used to have a pretty solid grasp of the best ways to do things (though nothing compared to some itt), but now I have no idea about anything...and it is annoying me.
If you don't do a Universal Property hotel, look in to the Hilton hotel by the convention center. Their pool is pretty top notch and they have a Universal package that looks like a nice deal. We usually stay there for a weekend once a year just for the pool. Currently have reservations there for Labor Day weekend. https://www.thehiltonorlando.com/
Booked all of our stays for spring break...again. Parents - eight nights at DVC building of Grand Floridian Sister #1 - seven nights Art of Animation Sister #2 - seven nights Caribbean Beach Us - Split stay, seven Waldorf, four VGF My in-laws will be with us the first few days before my immediate family and they’re all doing Shades of Green 198 days...
$2,772 cash money from renting points off a friend. Drastically cheaper than the overpriced hotel side.
Yes, we’ve already reserved our days. We only get one chance a year to do this and while everyone is with us and healthy (hopefully), we’re going to make it happen. I don’t expect the hopper to open up and we’re all there long enough to where we’ll be able to spread our time out without having to double up places.
