I'm not convinced I'd be quick enough on the trigger for it to matter. I already know how to shoot, just have no interest in promoting use on other humans. If society gets to that point, not sure it's worth living in it anyhow.

Ready for what exactly? The stats don't just stop applying due to a societal escalation. Arguably, they likely get even worse. It's pretty asinine to think strapping up does much of anything than increase your odds of accidentally shooting yourself or someone you love (or them shooting you). We don't live in a world where arming yourself makes a dent in the forces that might be working against you. It only compounds the problem, at least from where I'm sitting. And just to be clear, I completely understand the sentiment. I just think it has no basis in reality.

Idk at this point we know that the election is going to be challenged regardless of the result, and that challenge will quickly get to the Supreme Court. We also know that the rhetoric against protesters is getting worse, and cops are openly working with chuds who shoot people and get hailed as heores. We know that womeone wanted to use heat guns on protesters in DC, and that trump promised to put down unrest on election night swiftly. Trump getting reelected isn't going to make anything better. At some point preparing for self defense becomes practical. I'm not saying sleep with a loaded gun under your pillow.
