Win the elections then change the rules in January. If we have to appoint 20 damn people to the Supreme Court. Then Gerrymander and get rid of them all. Hey they want no rules let’s go.
A generation of conservative jurisprudence vs not having a second term of a guy they all fucking despise but put up with exactly because he can appoint who they want on the Supreme Court. Turn your brain on.
I truly believe if it gets to Trump not leaving I believe the military will not back him. The man with the army wins.
that's not the calculation tho, if they do this the Dems will be more likely to win the senate AND pack the courts nullifying the benefit
Hopefully but I think trump steals the election unless it is insane odds. Even then he still might. And this will reinvigorate social conservatives to vote party over anything and make the senate a taller task.
Do you really think this composition of old democrats are willing to set a court packing precedent? No. They don’t have the balls.
This is what can save democracy. Enough pressure from “dead both ways” senators running for re-election means those people force there to be no vote.
what makes you think they’re more likely to win? You think people who weren’t going to vote are turning out for dems now?
i really don't get the idea that this rallies the base and helps trump. everyone who would vote based on the supreme court selections already would have known RBG was old and had cancer.
all the polling says this isn't a Republican win thing to make the presidential campaign about or any senate campaign about, it's at best a wash but seems likely to be a losing campaign issue per the tsunami of shared polling currently happening on twitter
Everyone that voted for trump last time was gonna vote this time. They don’t care about the Supreme Court they care about being afraid of minorities. If we all vote we win. Then we go from there.
I’ve seen some shit in my 40+ years of following politics, but I’m as enraged and motivated as I’ve ever been. Whatever it takes, we all need to vote, and if that’s not enough we need to bleed in the streets. But I’m not confident that enough people care or understand the stakes.
Guys, one problem with packing the court (on top of the huge problems of actually getting a fair election and winning the senate) --- it will be challenged to, you guessed it, a donald trump supreme court. It's not going to happen. Best chance we have is some of these motherfuckers die.
bleeding in the streets is a given. they're going to use live ammo and a fucking heat ray machine on us.
Collins is still going down but maybe she’d like to feel safe walking down a street in Maine for her remaining years
Ya. In the early days of the Trump thread I joked about fleets of A10s strafing protestors, but that’s our future. CBP will be training pilots, because regular military won’t do it.
You guys. Mitch McConnell does not care about short term political losses vs. lifetime seats on the high court. He is willing to do this because of the power it gives conservatives. That’s all the man cares about. To think otherwise is foolish. He will not make the decision based on a calculation about what might or might not happen in November. This is so much bigger than that to him.
What Mitch did to Obama in 16 was the greatest insurance policy ever. RBG dying gives him the opportunity to get the proceeds.
Another struggling senator facing an uphill battle who can get crushed harder if he goes back on his word
That is being floated by Cruz. It is a dumb idea. We didn’t need 9 before the last election. This is no different, despite Trump’s ramblings. Cruz can choke on a dick
