Really doesn't matter the course though. Unless it's some 1 credit skill acquisition class, I don't think there's any expectation of a so-called "easy A." It's a four year university. This is college level work. Just because it's 100 level doesn't mean it's a cakewalk. Nice job making grammatical errors in the sentence where you say you've aced the business "schools" toughest classes
Cliffs: I signed up for 18 hours and can't hack it so now I'm looking for the easiest way to complain my way out of something
I haven’t replied yet but my reply will include links to the tutoring center’s time management resources
18 hours was pretty typical for Engineering the first two years. I think I took 18 for 5 or 6 of my 8 semesters.
I swear to god some of my coworkers are the worst. I don’t know how they operate a daily life. In a meeting yesterday 4 people asked the same question all in a row in a staff meeting that was because people complained about things being unclear. Today in a meeting 2 people that have been at the school for well over a decade were confused and didn’t understand how we created logins and passwords. It’s been the same for the 7 years I worked here and super simple.
Yesterday we took a few minutes at the beginning of each class to talk about 9/11, share our experiences as students at the time and how it changed our world. Then I used that to transition to the current pandemic (though not terrorism) being somewhat similar in that they'll be able to remember for years going through all of this and it's unlike anything any of us in class have experienced before and will probably change the way some things are in their world forever. Asked them to share the one moment or experience from spring that made it hit home to them this was a big deal and was affecting their lives. Had good answers about places shutting down, people giving/getting funny looks for not wearing masks, no sports, etc. Then this one kid raises his hand and says "the explosion in Lebanon." I clarified that wasn't related to COVID in the US but he brought it up again a minute or two later and all I could do was
This is what I get a bunch. “It’s film class. I thought we were just watching movies.” Like, mother fucker, did you not think there would be work too?
How many of you use Canvas? I think if some of us teach similar subjects, we should start exchanging resources.
I took a film genres course as a writing-intensive elective req in college. Remains one of my favorite classes, but it was most definitely work.
Microsoft has Office365, an entirely cloud based thing going, and my guess is that is what they are using.
It's a Google Doc thing. There is a big ole "share" button to click where you just enter an email address and it sends that person a message, link, and attachment to the Google Doc file. It doesn't seem to work very well unless everyone is a G Suite user though. Source: I shared a Google Doc draft with a continuing ed instructor last week so that he could see edits/comments and I had to resend it as a Word file because he couldn't access it even though he's listed as having access on the Doc.
I guess I read his initial post wrong. I thought he was talking about a Microsoft issue. I have experienced those problems that you are talking about regarding Google Docs, though.
After three weeks of nearly non functional cheapo Lms they are letting us use google classroom/seesaw etc THANK GOD
Really frustrating to see all my students sans masks when they're all part of a culture that naturally wear masks any time they're moderately sick. Got dam we've failed so hard.
Made a Family Feud game for class today where I photoshopped my face over Steve Harvey's. I love teaching
I just read about that this am. Normally if students call a professor out for being racist they probably are, but I felt bad for this guy based on what I read
Dear lord, I feel like next to ni hao, neige is the next best known Mandarin phrase. Didn't realize there was news of this variety. Have a link?
Yeah, that's some Grade A bullshit in the context of the lesson by the sounds of it. Good on the BCC to come out and shame USC for that crap.
- Teaching my kids about the French Revolution - Showed the clip from AC: Unity where Louis XVI gets beheaded buy the guillotine - Scholar “that’s fucking awesome, play it again!”
12 years in a row...the streak continues. I was really nervous with kids being able to take the quiz at home....but one dude answered "twin towers"
Remote’s been a total clusterfuck, can’t wait to get the kids back. On the other hand, been a blast coaching the FB teams this year; our 8th graders are 5-0 and the 7th is 4-1. Rare to have two good teams in the same year.
We shifted to hybrid 2 weeks ago just before we were supposed to start. Today we shifted to full distance starting immediately because a local seafood plant had a major outbreak. it was actually very helpful getting them in even if it was only 2 weeks. I was able to show and prepare them for everything we will do in distance, plus getting to be with kids in person was nice. Developing some sort of relationship is way better than doing this with kids I’ve never actually met.
My internet was down last Friday for most of the day when a waterline crew cut the fiber going into my neighborhood.
- We had a 2 hour PD yesterday. I happen to be at the school with some other co-workers. - I wasn’t paying any attention to it because it was on zoom and I was on playing golf on my phone. - Next thing I know, the AP came right behind me and took my phone. - It was torture having to actually sit and pay attention! Didn’t get my phone back until almost 4pm - I forgot what it felt like being a student
actually went surprisingly well and troubleshooting and screen sharing helped with a lot of stressed out families
2 of them are former students of mine https://www.wlbt.com/2020/10/16/four-suspects-arrested-armed-robbery-oxford/
Anything worse than parents complaining about "common core math" on social media? Cry me a frickin river...it can't be that hard
It isnt. I used to teach 7th grade math and the parents that complained about common core were just using it as a defense mechanism because they couldn’t perform 7th grade math themselves.
