What the fuck are we doing with our bench? We going to roll with Flowers, Camargo, Ender? Who am I missing?
Damn man, chill out. Didn't you see where we signed Ozuna to a big contract? Give it 4-6 weeks before we start signing pesky bench players.
i went to kakes baseball reference page to see how many more hits he needs for me to win my bet with jrmy (213) and learned that one of his nicknames is TTT no explanation for it.
He has used it for players’ weekend. It’s not an actual nickname. https://www.mlb.com/amp/news/nick-markakis-players-weekend-about-family-c291759478.html
I really hope we give Contreras a fair shot at playing time but I just know we’re gonna trot out Alex Jackson way too often. He’s gonna hit .125 and average a passed ball a game. He’s the new Ender and we still have the old Ender.
i am going to fully believe that rumored package for ramirez is accurate and bash AA constantly for being too scared to pull the trigger
I'm done shit talking AA for a while. The ozuna deal is amazing. He improved our rotation a ton. If he gets a couple arms for the pen I think it's an A+ offseason. Love that we actually added to the core vs taping it together.
i would argue (and i think the projections would agree) that we currently arent as good as the team we had last year. to say nothing of how the dodgers and padres and mets and cardinals have improved. we were one game away from a world series and while what he did with ozuna was nice, its not nearly enough. our depth is non-existent. we are too close to a title to just stand pat like this
Those projections always hate us. I think we are significantly better than last year. Full year of Pache and able bodied starters is going to be huge.
Actually now that I think about it.. How could we possibly add Soroka and Morton and be worse than last year? Am I having a massive brain fart, who did we lose? Tobias
i agree they are kinda weird with how they project us but in light of what our competition has done, i do not think bringing back ozuna (to play left field) and signing charlie morton is nearly enough this is the time for AA to truly go for it and he simply isnt.
farm system ranks baseball america: 5th klaw: 6th i guess these still include pache and anderson but still p good work with the sanctions. need to nail this draft though
Is it b/c of DH? Right now our pen might be a touch weaker but I feel like everything else is better. Line up is pretty much the same, except replace Pache for Ender...that's a win. Maybe Bug Country can be better than last year. Rotation of: Soroka Max Anderson Old Man Charlie Smyly/Bryse/Wright/Someone That's loads better than a year younger Soroka/Max & Hamels/Folty/Newk. I feel like we can say Soroka/Max are more estabilished than this point last year. Ian is a prodigy. Charlie is hopefully not too old...and anything has to be better than Folty/Newk.
The middle of our order is still very much a problem if we keep Freddie at 2. TDA isn’t going to be able to play everyday and he’s not a natural cleanup guy anyway. We need to add another bat and bump everyone down a slot. Otherwise, the bottom of the order will be a black hole with Riley, Ender/Pache and the pitcher.
that is fair. i just think our main competitors (dodgers, padres and maybe cards/mets if you're feeling generous) all improved much more than we did. it is an arms race and we havent kept up
The Cards added one guy who sucks away from Coors to a shitty lineup. Let’s not act like they went crazy. Same goes for the Mets.
It’s gonna be hard to do that after the year Freddie had and the need to move Ozzie away from him because they’re the only two lefties in the lineup
pretty much where I stand. I mother fucked AA for months and he turned around and got Ozuna for about $40 million less than he was asking for. I will wait and see how the team looks Opening Day before I inevitably turn again. I would love to upgrade 3rd base, but I can live with the lineup/rotation where it stands, assuming we add to our bench and bullpen prior to Opening Day. There are still a lot of free agents still out there.
What are this thread’s thought on Joey Gallo? I was trying to think of a lefty bat that could in theory fit on our team and let Ron, Fred, and Bug bat 1-2-3. Could probably get him by swapping Riley and not much more, especially after his awful 2020. I think he’d be an upgrade at the plate as I expect a bounce back season after he makes a few adjustments to lower his launch angle. I know he hasn’t played 3b in a couple years and he’s probably better suited for the outfield, but I bet he could still play with an average glove there.
Ozzie just needs to stop hurting his wrist and have a full season of him being healthy. The line up with out Tda looks pretty fucking awful. Ron Free Bug Oz Dansby Country Pache Contreas That's fucking gross
Dude hits 200. He fucking sucks. Don't give a fuck about his HRs when you're getting less than 1 hit a game
He also slugs .500. Between 2017-2019 he had a 120 wRC+ with 103 HRs despite missing over 90 games to injury in 2019. He doesn’t suck. He’s the modern power hitter.
