Tons of pier & beam houses. Think trailer house with a concrete skirt. 2-3’ of uninsulated crawlspace between the house & ground as opposed to a slab or basement. That is just 1 thing. Water lines are not buried as deep as up north. That results in colder water which requires more energy to move. That is just a 2nd thing.
I'm mad for Texas that you have to put up with these politicians that do nothing. I'm not sure who else you blame for this other than them. They should be held accountable imo

I think the sort of schadenfreude about it is (and this is not meant toward any Texas posters here) is that the Texas state politicians love to do shit like use racist dog whistles about Democrat run cities and crime but when they have their own issues with governance can't handle systemic critiques without getting in their feelings.
It's infuriating to me that they get to go on Fox News and generally exist with impugnity willfully letting people die, of covid and now this just in the last year.

My house is heated by propane. We filled up on Saturday and are under 20 percent. We’ve used 80 percent since Saturday somehow with hardly any power. The dipshits who built the house only put in a 250 gallon tank for a 3800 square foot house. So when it gets cold we have to fill up every few days. Also they put the tankless water heater on the outside of the house. I tried to get the propane guy to fill it up (he was at my neighbors house ) since we’ll be out by tomorrow or Friday and he said ok. He gets here and then says his boss won’t approve it. I don’t think it really matters anyway because our house is 55 degrees and it doesn’t have a chance to heat up when the power goes on and off so often. Sorry for the rambling and run on sentences but I’m freezing my little dick off. We have no water, no power and am just waiting for Saturday to get here so it gets above freezing. I’ve lived all over the country and have never seen this level of incompetence.
I think this is 100% correct, but people (not saying on TMB but on Twitter and FB) saying "well this is what you voted for!" is glib and completely misses the point.
Partially... historically, this is what Texas has voted for. Sucks for the people who have moved there and have to have a +15 majority to make any headway
I mean this is why Georgia may not see much progress even if we get a Democratic governor. The state legislature is way too gerrymandered and may hinder meaningful progress to prevent a disaster like Texas is facing.
