The other side of all this is a lot of Northerners have dealt without power during a cold snap at some point (many points), but also know how to handle cold on a day-to-day basis, so it eases the pain. Hate to align with simple CANE, but it is analogous to hurricane preparedness. If you know how to deal with something and your infrastructure is built around it, it's a lot easier to take in stride. In the same vein, there's an analogy with the climate change side of things. Hurricanes, cold snaps, etc. More common, more extreme. Wake the fuck up and get rid of politicians who refuse to do so.
