...I def graded easier during the pandemic. It felt somewhat like Whose Line Is It Anyway: where the rules are made up and the points don't matter!
Condolences, man. I just found out a former student/athlete of mine died by suicide, so I know the feeling.
Never had more failures for a quarter ever. We’re doing hybrid schedules with some kids fully virtual. I’ve had a couple fully virtual kids turn in like 10% of their assignments
They’ve adjusted the late work policy. Anything can be accepted up until the day before grades have been finalized. Anything that’s still missing up to that point stays a zero. I have 1 kid who has turned in 2 of 12 assignments this quarter so far. He has a 10. Looked up his other grades...his grade in my class is his 4th lowest
I’m the only 6th grade teacher in our district currently, we had 3 every year prior. I have only taught science and social studies. Now I’m a self contained teacher with 2 classrooms and 55 students. This year is a blast.
Meh. We’re back fully in person the last two weeks for the first time. Having to deal with classroom management crap for the first time all year.
almost 60% of students in my grade level are failing a core course at the moment. work completion is just absolute butt
They don’t pay you fuckers enough. Thank you for what you all do. I say this having failed in your profession. I am in awe of effective teachers that are willing to invest in kids when many of them aren’t willing to invest in themselves.
This is what I’m most worried about. We have been teaching alternating A/B groups of kids so far with virtually zero behavior issues - and are going back to 100% of kids together everyday next week after Spring Break. I think actually having to manage behavior again will be a rough readjustment for both sides of the equation.
We've been pretty much full in person all school year- there was a 2 week period in the fall that everyone was virtual when cases got high. 1st semester we had roughly 10% of students do online only and also kids were quarantined either due to testing positive but majority due to contact tracing. Most of them didn't turn stuff in so they got the ultimatum from principal to either be in person or go on their own home school virtual. Other than wearing masks and steps taken to increase distancing this has thankfully been a relatively normal school year compared to lots of stories I'm hearing from other districts. We did have to extend the school day by 20 minutes to make sure kids were getting enough minutes but that's off after spring break. I was really worried at first about going full in person re: class management, but schoolwide kids seemed thankful to get to leave the house and see their friends and probably more importantly parents that were very grateful to have kids in school. Knock on wood parent complaints are virtually nonexistent, this was an eye opening experience for lots of parents with the value of schools.
This year fuckin sucks, I’m doing all virtual sections and full on person sections and I’ve had more failures even in AP Bio this year than I ever had. They adjusted our late work policy and the redo/retake policy and the kids who care have such inflated grades, we’ve turned into a diploma factory. I started my masters and will be done by next summer, I need to get out of the classroom, trying to become a better advocate for teachers.
Email from a senior in my class. He never shows up or turns in any assignments. Senior - “I am in danger of not graduating what can I do to bring my grades up?” Me - “Come to class and turn in your assignments
Same day, email from an AP Student in my class AP Student - “ Can you unlock those 2 assignments that I got a 0 on do that can improve my grade! Me - You already have an A in the class AP Student - “Not good enough!” Me avoiding her until Friday when the 4th term begins
Pretty much spot on, I actually go through each test and show them in the material I went over, where I got the question from. The bitching and complaining usually stops instantly.
Teaching related: Jill Underly, backed by teacher union and WI democrats and candidate who did wonderful in her district, was elected over a private school voucher backing, backed by republicans but claimed to be non partisan racist/transphobic Deborah Kerr for state schools superintendent, a position that oversees the state Department of Public Instruction. POS WI-R Robin Vos continues to prove to be a POS R by vowing to block increased Department of Public Instruction funding, citing Jill Underly's support from Democrats and unions. One of the most influential lawmakers over the state budgeting process said he wouldn't support increasing funding for the state education agency because its new leader elected Tuesday was heavily backed by Democrats and teachers unions. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, R-Rochester, made the statement just an hour after Pecatonica School District Superintendent Jill Underly was elected state schools superintendent, a position that oversees the state Department of Public Instruction. It's a real shame the Republicans in my state spend their whole careers getting funded by our tax dollars only to actively worsen our livelihoods. Robin Vos is a cancer to Wisconsin.
Don't be so hard on yourself. You didn't fail at something that moxin... Ok he's probably not succeeding at it but still.. it's not for everyone.
Started AP and EOC testing today. This fuckin blows, scores won’t be down because they will just scale the shot out of the tests.
one of our school buses with elementary kids got hijacked by a an armed guy trying to run away from basic training. kids are ok but jfc
Very nice. I’ve had this type of thing before only to have it go in the direction of “so listen, are you happy with your financial services right now?” Mf I thought you were looking me up years later to tell me how great I am
Got an official commendation from the district that’s being sent to state’s education commissioner because I spent 20 minutes making a social distancing emergency drill video for them. Literally took only 10 minutes to shoot and another 10 to edit.
I was waiting for a follow up where he asked if you're interested in buying some advocare or something
