While we are here, pick your favorite Island Tour show. Brandon Chicken and I were talking about this a few months ago. Like picking a favorite child.
Panic uploaded this proshot of A of D from Red Rocks 2017 the other day. Quite possibly one of the best WSP shows I’ve seen, and the first set taking place on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon was something else. The Shut Up And Drive > You Got Yours, Galleon might be the most frequent 3 consecutive songs I listen to as of late. Before the show, those songs meant nothing to me and now I’m a huge SUAD fan. Galleon and E on a G were also super cool to see since they’re Mikey songs Jimmy had never played before. I miss live music - especially Panic. 06/25/17 Red Rocks, Morrison, CO 1: A of D, Tall Boy, Shut Up And Drive > You Got Yours, Galleon, Airplane > Rebirtha > Wondering, Goodpeople, North 2: Greta > All Time Low, Can't Get High, Conrad, Saint Ex, Driving Song > Papa's Home > Goin' Out West > Pilgrims > Driving Song, Last Dance > E on a G > Last Dance E: Jack, I'm So Glad, Can't Find My Way Home [Entire show with Edie Jackson, sign language interpreter; The band returned for the encore wearing Col. Bruce tribute Grease shirts; 'Mountain Jam' tease after 'Rebirtha'; Last 'E on a G' - 11/16/01, 1053 shows; Last 'Galleon' - 07/21/01, 1093 shows; Last 'I'm So Glad' - 07/08/03, 956 shows]
4/2, 4/4, 4/3, 4/5 was my immediate ranking without over analyzing. Stash from 4/2 is probably my favorite jam of the run, and Twist isn’t far behind. Absurd Paug too.
What did you think about the amphitheatre? My buddy that went said the big negative was you had to walk in the cave to piss and it definitely curtailed his drinking. Also said there were plenty of people with extras. Did you see that as well? I'm hoping it will be that way for a bunch of shows since people had to buy these pods before securing a group of people to go with and all.
At first I said it was probably some COVID ordeal, but there ain't no such thing in fucking Grundy County, TN.
That was my main complaint as well. They need porta potties. Night two didn’t afford many piss break opportunities. Some of the pods we were in didn’t have the best views. We were in front row all the way to the right night 2 and moved to a pod with better sight lines after set 1. It was fucking COLD night 1. Got down to 35 i think. Drink orders came quickly...order it on the seatz app and it came 10 mins later. Didn’t have much in terms of food...just chips and nuts...but I typically don’t go to shows to eat anyway. Traffic getting in and out wasn’t too bad, but I heard the shuttle situation kind of sucked. No Uber or Lyft. They were pretty lax about people moving around. Saw a couple of people dancing in aisles asked to move back in their pod but they eventually gave up. People had extras and the people taking the tix didn’t care if you were all in the same car. Got my buddy a ticket the day of night 2 and he just came and chilled in our pod with 5 other people. Smokehouse lodge is a good place to stay if you want a pregame/postgame hang spot. Pretty much the only people staying there were Biscuits fans so it was like one big tailgate. Be prepared: this is by no means a “nice” motel. Think smoky rooms and dirty bathrooms. However, it was a free for all and perfect for the demographic that was attending that show. Party central. Restaurant right beside it. 25 minutes from the caverns. I recommend stopping at the Manchester Walmart on the way in for the methiest experience possible. 10% mask usage and white trash everywhere. Overall, it’s a great venue with a great vibe. You could tell how excited the band was to play there. Literally just in the middle of a bunch of farmland. You can see a ton of stars out there.
but also The cabins at the Smokehouse are nicer. If you have a big group to make the cost worth it for a few night run.
There also appear to be some small pop up air bnbs really close to the venue. Might be worth checking out too. Rumor has it that Papadosio is going to try to hold a festival there utilizing both the above ground and below ground space. Really cool idea. Would be cool if they opened up the adjacent field for camping.
probably the best thread for this... (and I'm probably the only person who cares about this shit but...) Question: was Boogaloo Joe Jones the 1st musician to jam out Donovan's First There is a Mountain? [track 2 on this album] I know the Grateful Dead started jamming on the theme in Alligator and Dancin' (and later Dark Star) in early 1968. Obviously the Allmans were doing it by 1970. also, I'm kinda meh on this album, but his later (early 70s) shit is fire
Random question: If you even noticed, how was the handicap accessible stuff up there? A friend was asking me for a friend he wants to take to Del McCoury. I think dude has a scooter or wheelchair.
Got a few friends down there and they said the setup is great and everyone has been super respectful of things so far.
Damn, wish I had seen that. Deleting Instagram is having the unintended consequence of being very out of the loop when it comes to music opening back up
I had no idea until I saw Goose post a picture of them flying to Florida. I’m so out of the loop currently.
Any Perpetual Groove fans in here? Released their dates for fall tour today, including two nights at the Georgia Theatre for New Years.
No Richmond stop in-between Raleigh/DC is such a bummer. But I may make the trek up to DC for the show anyway.
There was a TBA on 10/22 between somewhere in PA and 10/23 Charlotte. Feel like they could potentially get into Richmond there. Right now I'm targeting 10/2 at the Basement East (or the Dawes show that same night), Black Friday in ATL, and NYE.
Going to quite a few hopefully. The only band other than PJ I will travel wherever to see. Bham, Asheville or Nashville(can't do that drive), at least 1 Atl, at least 1 Athens.
PG is definitely the band I've traveled the most for. My dad and I have been going to shows since we saw them at Harvestfest 2003. No distant trips, but we always try to make the easy southeast shows. Was really hoping for something in Chatt, but I guess without Songbirds they don't really have an appropriate room to play.
Love their cover of inside out by spoon. Starts around 11:45 I think. Whole set is good even though they had to shorten some jams due to being a fest set
Anybody catch the moe. stream last night? The Telefunken Soundstage is pretty sweet and apparently they're making that stream their new live album.
According to someone on twitter, the Smokehouse in Monteagle, TN for lodging: it is currently burning. Just confirmed with family that lives on the foot of the mountain. They can see the smoke from their house Edit add on:
Fire, Fire on the Mountain... shit, so many doobs smoked in that place I’m surprised it didn’t happen sooner. Hopefully everyone’s ok
