Was that the opening night? When that old dude, can't recall his name, introduced him on the telephone? I was at two of those Tyler/Margo shows. Took my then nearly 3 yr old to that show. lost my shit when this happened
So that same dude was on the rail at Sturgill's show a few months later at Bonnaroo. His name is Old B or something like that. Tex and I were just three people over from him. Tyler played Roo that year, but I was still on the clock.
Not sure how I missed this thread until now. Likes handed out all around. Heard about colter wall in 2018 when he released Songs of the Plains and then got a referral to check out Tyler. Never looked back on pop country again.
Favorite tune of his. Here’s a great live version at RR: Also, the music video for it is pretty awesome as well:
The backstory on this song is pretty awesome. It may be tied with Feathered Indians as my favorite Tyler Childers song.
The whole last two verses, man. Whoo boy. And I will follow you to Virgie 'Cause that's what us boys are for To help you out when you get weary And you can't go no more Can't you see her up there, Cody? I can see her through the pines Saying boys be good
Thing about him is he has a bunch of material that he plays live and such that just hasn't been released. For instance, I want a studio recording of Take My Hounds to Heaven.
Every part of Virgie gets me every time. My grandmother is 96 and still sharper than I've ever been. My son is 10 and has also grown up with her. Never raised her voice to me when I'd get in trouble(a lot), only "you're better than this".
Charleston girl, nose on the grindstone, shake the frost etc. Probably wouldn't be better than the red barn recordings though
he has an entire collection of extremely oddly specific songs that every single person can still relate to somehow or another. the man has written songs about digging for flint arrowheads while high, jerking off while on the road, fixing up an old RV, and his childhood buddy's grandma and those are just the ones that have made it onto a record.
Im hoping he adds more tour dates this year. He has 5 planned right now and they’re in montana, Kansas, and arkansas. Not exactly the easiest places to get to
"I don't know if it's the wine or the coke that makes it sound like her jaw is broke/She's workin' hard to make some sense but she ain't got a dime" is such a wonderful bit of songwriting.
Nose on the Grindstone ourvinyl version was the first TC song I ever heard and it grabbed me. Still have a soft spot for that one. Also Hard Times has one of my favorite lines in any song in the end of this stanza “Well, the sign at the church says "I'll reap what I'm sowin'" But I ain't lost sleep, it'll come in due time And if the Lord wants to take me, I'm here for the taking 'Cause Hell's probably better than tryin' to get by”
