Where have I advocated not targeting Hamas? Palestinians are dying because Hamas started firing missiles at Israel. Palestinians are dying because 400+ Hamas rockets have landed in Gaza. Palestinians don't have bomb shelters but Hamas has complex underground tunnels. Despite what people try to make out, Israel isn't indiscriminately shelling the Gaza strip right now. If people really cared about Palestinian citizens then they'd be just as up in arms that Hamas is purposefully putting innocent people in harms way.

You can point to whatever point in time you want to as the start of this conflict; none of that changes that the current Israeli Government’s posture is cruel and woefully ineffective as a matter of policy and - at best - of questionable lawfulness. Hamas being a terrorist organization that also commits war crimes doesn’t absolve Israel of its legal or moral obligations.
I agree it doesn’t absolve them of their moral obligations. But it presents a complex situation of how do you administer to the people of Gaza when the government there does not recognize you as a legitimate country? Furthermore what do you do when attacks are launched from there? Israel pulled all Jewish settlers out of Gaza, all military presence out of Gaza and negotiated a freedom of movement agreement in 2005. Shorty after that Hamas was elected, waged a bloody coup on Fatah (rife with war crimes) and immediately started attacking Israel. What’s the solution? I sure don’t know
