I bought a CO2 gun and cartridge for like 30 bucks last year. Blew out some nasty sludge and water. Saved my mama 100$ or so. Would recommend.
I use filtretes or nordicpure - whatever is cheaper on Amazon. I usually go for lower merv (6 or 7) because I've always been paranoid that the high ones would choke my system. I just change them every 2 months to make up for getting cheaper ones
I was told years ago cheap and often. Unless you have some crazy allergy condition in the house it’s a waste of time to get anything expensive. Could be bullshit, but that’s the bullshit I’ve followed.
Yeah. What's a boyo? It sounds like if they're cheap you're saying that I should leave the line for the next folks. Does it need to be capped? Or taped to the wall with the opening facing the ceiling?
Growing up around Lubbock we changed filters religiously once a month and they were always dirtier than mine are now at 3 months
I put an actual handle stop on mine with PEX. You could always cap a line easily with a shark bite if that’s what you’re concerned with. Send a pic of what you’re referring to and we could answer more definitively.
Current state off backyard. Rain needs to cut the shit out. Crew was only able to work 2 of 5 days this past week. Need 5 dry days and this place will be unrecognizable. LFG!!!
Excited to see the finished product. Can't wait to see how they direct the crawfish slide directly into the hot tub
Plot twist. I am disconnecting the leads to the thermistor on my heater and connecting them to one I am just hanging in the air and am just going to turn my “hot tub” into a giant boil. We will borrow Levi’s slip & slide to use as a chute and use the pool net to get everything out.
We’ve had it done twice. I think it’s worth it, and relatively inexpensive in the grand scheme of things. Got it done the second time because of the result of the first, plus had work done where all the ducts were coated but that’s another story.
What did it run you? Does it make your equipment run more efficiently, or is that more of a preventative maintenance thing?
Could be voodoo magic, first time was a move in deep cleaning. I’d imagine if you have allergies that are severe it would definitely be a preventative maintenance sort of thing. Second time it was because we built a bar in the basement, all the cutting work was done in the basement (on shitty days) and the intake wasn’t sealed off. cost was a couple hundred. I want to say 250 or so, give or take a few.
That’s insane. One thing I do know is that they need to cut two holes into your current system to get the vacuum in there, or whatever they use to create the suction. We already had those. Also might depend on the size of the house, but for reference we have about 3200 sq, ranch. So could be minimal in terms of duct work being one floor. If you need to cut in and have a big ass place I can see how it may be more. I’d think if you got 2-3 more quotes you’d have a good idea especially if you asked a few questions.
I’m getting filter shamed in here for changing mine quarterly. I also go through filterbuy.com and they seem on par with all the other big box store filters.
I was told these filters would last 6 months to a year by the HVAC company that installed our new AC recently. Was I bamboozled?
Anyone gotten a leakage test done on their system? If you’re changing $2 filters every month, no worries. If they’re $30 merv 8’s every 3 months? It might be time for a leakage test and a differential pressure gauge on either side of your filter cabinet. If your system is leaking, the upgraded filter is a waste. At the very least make sure your return air ducting is clean and properly sealed. If you’re going for hepa or Merv 8, your filter should have gaskets to prevent air from bypassing the filter when it begins to clog.
Guilted. Can you get these anywhere else besides Amazon Aprilaire - 213 A1 213 Replacement Air Filter for Whole Home Air Purifiers, Healthy Home Allergy Filter, MERV 13 (Pack of 1)
So there should be a shutoff valve at the wall. You can leave the line attached if you want or take it with you. If it’s the plastic flexible line, leave it. Go to HD or Lowe’s and buy a braided stainless steel line. Plastic always ended up cracking years down the road and leaking behind the fridge. Not enough to be noticed until it’s done a decent amount of damage or mold. I fucking hate those plastic lines.
Lol jealous. My AC uses filters that slide into the air supply. They are like 14 inches by 27 inches by like 4 inches. And they cost about $50 a piece. Oh and there are two of them; one for upstairs and one for the downstairs unit. I have decided they can last 6 months minimum before they need to be changed.
I get same one from Amazon and do the subscribe and save to auto ship every 3 months so my reminder to change it is it showing up at my door.
I used my work account to purchase air filters. The corporate discount wasn't too much off the normal price from glasfloss.com. May be a cheaper alternative for some of you guys.
I looked into the reusable filters years ago but I’ve never followed through on it. I wouldn’t mind having two and switching them out every month if they actually worked.
I bought two when I bought this house 15 years ago Went back to disposable after a few years The reusable are OK, but never really get clean and never really catch as much as the paper filters
- no attic - no existing wiring in ceiling Is there anyway to move the line down the wall to BEHIND the wall? This is the ugliest crap ever. Will be replacing the crap fan but also would prefer not to have that wiring coming down the wall. Spoiler
Is this the right place to ask about home security cameras/systems? Just want two motion-activated spotlight cameras that I can view on an app. Is Ring the way to go? Am I overthinking this?
It depends on what you want I can't speak to ring, but I've had blink cams in one house and hardwired cameras into another. The blinks were a million times easier to install, but hardwired allows you to instantly see what's going on out there. There's a significant lag with blink, which I attribute to wifi and battery saving tech. The cloud saving clips still works really well
We had our first package delivered to our buyers today. They don't move in until mid june. It's gonna be a ride
I like my blink cameras too but one thing I wish there would be a workaround for is at night on the iPhone to somehow allow notifications to come through for certain apps when on do not disturb.
First call an electrician and see what they charge Some are really good with fish tape and could do that in an afternoon They are gunna put a switch in the line, ask them to put two, one for the light and one for the fan But depending on actual conditions (joists etc) it may take cutting open the sheetrock, which the electrician would probably be willing to do, but you'll need a good drywall guy and painter to make it look good after
No spotlight but I’m a huge fan of all the Wyze stuff. Super cheap but great quality. I’ve got 2 outdoor and one indoor camera.
ok. I thought it would just involve a little drywall patching at the top entry point and bottom of course. *edit* ok nevermind I get what you're saying now. As far as the switch... yeah that'll be interesting. Not sure exactly how/where that'll go. There's no switch currently on that side of the wall, but there is one on the other side of that wall.
Can only to speak to Arlo. Idk if others do this but my favorite feature is “Arlo Smart” ($3/month/camera) that I have on my outside camera that identifies animal, person, vehicle for motion alerts. I used to get freaked out every late night alert so knowing when I get the alert its just an animal saves the paranoia.
