The game of the year edition is on sale for $10 on steam. Bought it last night and have been enjoying it so far. My graphics card on the other hand, is not.
Crazy that people are still buying this, 6 years later. A new Witcher on the new consoles will be amazing...one day.
Hopefully. CDPR kind of killed their rep with Cyberpunk. Hopefully they get their shit together before making another Witcher.
They should just not even say they’re making it and then one day after making sure it’s ready to go and bug free just be like “here you go, assholes.”
That would be the way. But given how much they sold of Cyberpunk by how much they hyped the fuck out of it, probably won't be how they handle it.
I think there is still a ton of faith in them. W3 was just that good, from the writing, to the story, gameplay... everything. Their niche may just not be sci-fi/steampunk. More fantasy world shit and they can bring it back.
Speaking of another Witcher, I 1000% expected a follow up with Cirilla as the protagonist after initially finishing this back around its release. Kinda surprised it's been so quiet 6 years later.
1. A Geralt-less Witcher game would not do well imo. A large part of the dramatic appeal of the story is him trying to maintain neutrality in the midst of the shittiness in his world and that’s lost if Ciri is the protagonist, as she’s feisty and headstrong, so she just does whatever the fuck she wants. 2. TW3 is subject to the Mass Effect 3 dilemma, vis a vis it’s tougher to make a sequel to TW3 than TW2 because the circumstances of the world are so drastically different depending on player choice. At the end of TW2, outside of a couple of cosmetic story choices, the conclusion is largely the same; the Lodge is taken down, Radovid takes power in the North, Geralt clears his name and recovers his memory, etc. With the TW3 ending, entire kingdoms may not even exist anymore, or have different rulers, and Ciri may not even be alive. Hard to plan a game accounting for that many variables.
I think people make too bit of deal about a canon ending. Technically none of it is even canon from the books. Just pick one. I’m mature enough to not be offended that CDPR picked the ending I didn’t end up with, but a ton of fucking Reddit nerds aren’t.
Design crew has already said future Witcher installments won't include Geralt. These last 3 work as a trilogy for him and that's it. Like, they probably won't even call the next installment Witcher 4, for that reason. In my mind, a prequel is the better option. Build a completely new world, maybe with small cameos from younger versions of characters we saw sprinkled in Geralt's story.
There’s a way to create events that leads any number of different endings to the same future in which the game takes place.
True. But still, you'd need to go prequel to be able to do much. Geralt is pretty old and gets a pretty decent ending, regardless of which path you choose. Doing a sequel to 3 just seems like a cash grab.
Yeah I feel you there. I'd be fine with a prequel or a witcheress sequel. Someone mentioned part of the allure is Geralt trying to maintain neutrality. Perhaps they could use that against Ciri and have her lack of neutrality blow up in her face and she has to learn, but i agree it would be hard/risky to try to improve upon the ending from 3. Most likely a sequel doesn't end up with as solid of end, but I also think CDPR has shown they can do a great job with the writing.
Just set it way out in the future. Someone has revived the Witcher program. Have an entirely new protagonist
I almost said this exact thing. I didn’t hate Andromeda like so many others did. But I love space RPG’s. My biggest complaint was they left so much open and then didn’t make any DLC
I want to play it but aside from a few exceptions I’m a “patient gamer” so I’ve been waiting for it to be on sale (and currently every GPU I own aside from a GT 710 is mining)
About time for my annual replay. Debating going with an alchemy build as I typically go sign/combat hybrid.
Funny enough I made mostly the same choices nearly every time. I did get two different outcomes regarding Ciri but everything else was largely the same. Just loved the world so much.
I think this is my seventh. Still amazing, never get bored. It’s borderline ruined other RPGs for me.
Are we gonna get a Series X/ PS5 version anytime soon? Would definitely start another playthrough for that.
Supposed to be this year sometime but no word lately on a date. Cdpr are probably so far behind because of how shitty the Cyberpunk launch is.
Sometime this year. I’ve got the physical standard edition. Hope I get a free upgrade, with all the DLC. Especially since I paid for CP. it’s the least they could do for me.
It's probably one of the best games ive ever played, so under $10 is a steal. Theres a bit of a learning curve to start, and sometimes it seems like its starting out a little slow but its good
Starts out very slow. Took me about 2 years to get to 50% maybe and then the finished it in less than a couple months. It’s well worth $60 to this day.
Slow start and learning the potions and power system is a little hard, but once you get it down combat flows very well. Pretty sure i missed how to craft a swallow (basic heal potion), failed a quest that requires you to heal a sick girl with it, and didnt have one for the first 10 hours of the game because I'm dumb
Guess because I played and enjoyed Witcher 2 I didn't have any trouble getting into 3. It was my most anticipated game for a long time and it became my favorite game of the previous generation. Absolute masterpiece in my opinion.
I did a lot of things like this, and i started on death march or whatever the difficulty is called. It was a rough few hours. Yeah for most of us saying it started slow, it was probably our first witcher game. I know it was mine.
You can definitely get overwhelmed early on by the intricacy of the support systems, but once you learn the nuts and bolts, it creates an almost infinite variety of play styles for combat and support. Want to be a lightning slicer? Invest in in fast strike, light armor, blizzard, etc. Want to be a barbarian? Heavy armor, thunderbolt, invest in adrenaline points. Mage? Get to work on those signs and petri’s philter. Tank? Get to work on those potions and quen and you can literally kill people without swinging your sword.
I wish I could remove all memories of this game from my head. Then I could play it again and fall in love all over again. Spoiler With Triss
