They had like a 20 year head start with their medical school which pumped in a lot of grant money and from what I can remember- is ranked highly as a research institution. Also - some googling found me this gem, for another USF L A former employee of a nonprofit corporation affiliated with the University of South Florida has pleaded guilty in federal court to embezzling at least $12.8 million, with the bulk of that money flowing to an adult website, the school announced late Thursday. It found that Puglisi made at least $12.86 million in non-business charges on UMSA credit cards, with at least $11.5 million going to an adult content website, mygirlfund.com. About 22,000 interactions with the site were recorded, and a search found that Puglisi frequented the profile of a woman on the site believed to be his stepson’s fiancée, the report said. https://www.tampabay.com/news/educa...led-usf-health-care-funds-embezzled-millions/
just boggles my mind how poorly USF football was managed. I don't know if I can say all of athletics because they are really competitive and win conference titles in other sports - but being in Florida at a school that big and be THAT badly managed is something. And it wasn't that long ago they had a couple of 1 and 2-loss seasons. I mean even FIU and FAU are showing you can at least commit and have a functional program.
Don’t mind me, just snooping around the house to see what kind of peeps are going to be my new cfb in-laws.
Well us and BYU will bring national championship level football to a conference of teams that haven't won a title in 100 years. Your team's profile is about to get elevated and I'm so excited for you.
well that seals it. soon after there will be a new announcement for the "Power 4" and we will be left out again just with different opponents. It's just the way it works folks.
Honestly, we’ll be fine if that happens IF the playoffs expand. But the money difference is going to be huge. Getting left out this time around is a death rattle for a program
Game grades from watching it one time and while being tired. Coaching: A Time management and play calling were pretty fucking great. QB: B Good to see DG use those legs and when he was good he was real good but the bad plays were what the fuck level bad and would cost us the game under most circumstances. RB: B+ Dude was solid, good vision big surprise. I'm a little worried about the hesitation that allowed those holes to open up being something that burns us later. A few plays he kicked it outside or missed a chance to convert an easy first down where it looked like he was going for a bigger play. WR: D I think these guys sucked dick. The plays I remember were DG throwing into tight coverage because I just don't think I remember them getting open at all. I'm not impressed yet but we have been spoiled. TE: no idea, didn't see shit. OL: B- One fuckboy kept getting penalties and I think as a unit the pass protection wasn't great the pocket was so small. DG rolling out helped but need improvement there. Run blocking seemed nice, they did open up holes in the middle pretty frequently. DL: A Big Kat and one other dude stood way out for me. Very disruptive could have easily had some batted balls but just didn't get a hand on them. Hit the QB all day and were probably a big reason he threw that pass that got picked to seal the game instead of taking another blast. Secondary: D+ Boise WRs were wide open. The 8-12 yard pass hurt us but could have been a lot worse if the pressure wasn't there. I don't think they allowed any big plays that I remember but I'm not sure. LB: I don't know I don't really remember. Special Teams: C Kicking was fine Punting a little below average Returns seemed explosive and could break one Ok done pooping now.
The way I saw it, clutch difficult grabs because they weren't open. Every catch was over a Boise defenders head. Robinson is excluded because he was open a few times, like the long one.
Be interested to see the TV deal. AAC prob gets dropped to like $4 mill a team. Maybe we can $15ish? If we can get over $20 then wooo boy we got a stew going. Bet we actually see a stadium expansion. We could get 20k students a game easy and we should make student sections standing only and make that place just insanely loud.
Not statue worthy but its because we got good at football which is sort of Frost but clearly mostly Milton and then guys left over from GOL.
You'll say that a lot this year. He's a half step away from being a damn good DE. Good win last night. Happy to see TWill's defense get it together after the rough start. Really like Travis and hope he has success. Impressed with Gabriel at QB. Kid made some great throws and seems tough as nails.
If GOL is the statue standard then you can make them for like a dozen others. Hitt KZ Bortles 24K Shaq Daunte Frost DW Probably some 70s people I don't know Not that I think these people all should but with GOL as your starting point....
I’ll take the additional $20mil a year for a couple years. By the time that dries up we’ll be in a much better position and I’ll take our chances
But I don't really care if UCF has money. I'm just a dipshit fan. I want to see us win and go to nearby away games and I don't care if our budget is 40MM or 100MM
Money gets you cool facilities and better recruits and more exposure…so give me that. Hopefully helps us not suck in basketball and baseball too.
Happy for y'all and thrilled for TWill. Will try not to let my bittnerness and loathing of Gus show during your games this year. I was massively annoyed with Auburn twitter last night so can only imagine what went through your heads.
We get it. We feel similarly about Frost and Heupel. I think the Gus hate is probably overdone but y’all obviously have your own experience that was probably different from what we are experiencing currently.
Brandon tweeted this an hour ago... "Industry sources tell CBS Sports that the Big 12 lost at least 40% of its value with the departure of Texas and Oklahoma. However, the reconfigured Big 12 with four additions could earn $20 million-$25 million per season, softening the financial blow."
oh that $25 mil a season would be awesome. And mostly from Fox I assume. I am still trying to figure out if ESPN wants to bail on the B12 or steal it from Fox? The best part is leaving USF in the fucking dust, FUCK THEM. We better not be like TCU and have the brand basically disappear after stepping up to the $ conference. PS- I'm drunk and sleep deprived I hope this makes sense when I read it tomorrow.
And it pays your coaches and assistants enough so that a some old money school can’t drop a bag of money in front of them to lure them away
I've wondered about ESPN fox thing as well. My hope is they fire bowlsby asap to get his ESPN threatening ass gone prior to negotiations.
In case you haven’t already read it, Interesting look into Gus as a coach and game week prep https://247sports.com/LongFormArtic...ahn-behind-the-scenes--170111177/#170111177_1
Still, something seemed off about the offense last season. Heupel’s offense was simple: line up quickly and try to catch the defense in an improper alignment. Gabriel recalls his performance against Georgia Tech last season, a game he reviewed Thursday morning before kickoff against Boise State. The route concepts were simple to a fault. He threw only 12-yard fall outs and verticals, with “maybe one or two out routes,” he says. UCF led the nation with 88 plays per game with the break-neck speed with simple concepts. Malzahn’s offense is a bit more complicated, particularly with the audibles and variance of plays from the same formations, though it’s definitely not as fast. “It’s not as fast because of the fact it’s not as simple,” says Gabriel. “We get to the line quickly but there’s a lot more in the process that goes into it rather than with Heup. We’d line it, call it and try to be as fast as possible. At times it was really rushed [in 2020] because of how fast we played, so you’re just kind of learning on the fly with every play. You’re kinda just running to grass. With Gus, I truly feel like we’re scheming things up, getting into looks you like, giving you answers and if he doesn’t like the look, he checks it, which is something I like.” UCF’s game plans also seemed misguided in 2020. Scouting incorrectly predicted defensive looks in eight of 10 games, Gabriel said. It appears UCF succeeded in spite of the plans and scouting. The quarterback became obsessed with his progressions against certain coverages so he could better make decisions after the snap rather than worry about the play calls. “You felt uneasy,” says Gabriel. Seven hours before the scheduled season opener against Boise State, Gabriel felt more at ease, even in a new offense against a strong opponent. “How do you prepare for a coach that you don’t know what he’s going to run?” says Gabriel. “I never feel uneasy going into a game, even this first game, just because I know [Malzahn] is gonna be spot-on.” Heup is going to fail so hard at UT if this is his mentality
