Commercials and dvr were my biggest complaints I didn’t like the guide, but I think that’s been updated since I left
I'm sure they've already started that. I said apples and oranges because comparing Bally's/RSNs to Disney/network tv is like comparing Kmart to Walmart.
It's "bullshit" of me to bring up that they actually did go into takedown in two of their two largest carriage disputes to date? RSNs are the largest provider of in-market MLB games (and at the time I think NBA and NHL too, probably MLS as well) and Roku is the largest OTT streaming device provider. So disqualifying them because they aren't a major "network" is some real no true Scotsman as stuff. And I say that not even holding this kind of thing against YTTV. Every tv provider has carriage disputes; it's just part of the business. I don't think it's going to be a permanent takedown so I definitely wouldn't cancel YTTV over it. It's far more likely that they spent days negotiating over the expiration date than it is that it's something they were wholly unaware of the context of. Edit: When my company had RSNs the expiration was right before the start of baseball season and it was very intentional on their part to cause the most trouble for us if we didn't reach a new deal with them. I don't work in programming so I don't know what we got in return for it, but I'm sure it was something as we were all aware of what a hard place that expiration date put us in.
We are all aware, it’s also the most recent example of this 90% of us can point to. Yes there are some differences
There's some evidence in this thread to suggest that free trials don't really benefit the company being trialed:
Someone on Twitter said Vontronix is really good. They’ve got a decent package. 4000 channels for 30 bucks. Only a 3 day trial to try though. Anyone heard of it?
the guide on Hulu is a pain have to swipe up when youre already at the top of the tv screen under Live tab then the default guide is Recent, and no way to customize the order of Favorites?
This and the ability swipe to channel surf is better than YTTV. The app is just a touch slower though. Fast forward/backward is frustrating.
I want a cable/streaming option. All I have is MLB.TV which is amazing during the summer. What else do I need? All I watch on TV is live sports and HGTV lol
YouTube tv not having the ability to set up multiple screens is embarrassing. Even PS Vue had that back in the day
It's bullshit because it's misleading. Bally's/RSNs have not successfully negotiated with anyone other than what 1 or 2 other similar providers? Everyone who matters has told them to pound sand. Also, for Roku...1) Existing YTTV customers experienced no loss of the YTTV app and 2) all new customers had to do was download the normal YouTube app and then access their YTTV from that. It was a non issue.
Team YTTV and not budging unless it creeps into next football season where my team will actually be playing. I don't watch a lot of tv but the wife does. We like YTTV. Fuck this little game these companies play with YT/Google every few months trying to prove they have nuts.
I’ve used Hulu and Vue and now YTTV and have no plans to leave (I’ll just log in to the espn app with my in laws directv login)
Fubo doesn't have ESPNU? Very lame for a sports focused carrier or whatever they market themselves as I'm doing a free trial. Guide kind of sucks
They absolutely have it. I think they have every national network except maybe Longhorn. Never needed to watch it so I’ve never looked.
I assume the Hulu price increase that’s coming on Tuesday is just coincidental and not related to this at all?
maybe letting three companies own every part of the media ecosystem so they can all engage in cutthroat behavior to bleed their competitors dry while raising prices for end consumers, maybe that was a bad call
Because Amazon is an especially shitty company and people should stop signing up for / renewing prime
Lol idk. It supposedly allows you to watch PPVs as well. Idk. I saw it in a comment and for the price it does seem nice. https://www.vontronixtv.com/
At this rate, in a few months you'll be saying this Disney one doesn't count as a real takedown either because it's content owned by a competitor and YTTV gave everyone a discount for it. YTTV deserves credit for the things they've done to mitigate takedowns, but they're not any more immune or resistant to them than any other tv provider. It's a shame you so constantly do the Baghdad Bob/defend the shield routine in here instead of just being honest about this kind of thing.
Kinda maybe starting to miss the good old shitty cable companies considering I’m paying more for content now than ever
