I have my doubts about Satt. I have no clue if Shaw or Kimrey were worth a good gosh darn at their jobs, so whatevs. but what I need an answer to is why in the absolute fuck does Adkins still have a job and his head? I demand blood and a new OL coach.
This is me since September. It’s criminal that he is still employed. I’ve seen a few rumors about Stepp leaving as well, but I don’t know if those were just bullshit or not. I’m kind of meh on the others we lost, but I feel like stepp is pretty good.
What are these negative vibes. I thought Shane “had it rolling” and I would never have to deal with negativity again
ashy larry the Gamecocks Homefield stuff is out now https://www.homefieldapparel.com/collections/south-carolina-gamecocks-vintage-apparel-store I like "The Fighting Gamecocks All The Way" and "Women's National Champs" best
I feel like adding Tim Brewster at TEs is a no-brainer if he's willing to come...can't believe we'd choose to go in a different direction.
Nice, I thought the hoodie was white in the picture. I wouldn't get white cause it shows dirt too much, but that color looks nice
We've recruited like shit in NC since Kitchings left, and honestly before that Muschamp was getting his ass beat by Mack in NC...this would immediately fix that.
TC as our resident u of sc historian- how many of those old logos had you seen before? i had never seen this one. can’t decide how I feel about it
I've seen something like it before; not sure if this exact one or not. Looks like something that came out of a game program in like the 1950s. That's Homefield's MO right, going back through programs and yearbooks and stuff to find traditional imagery?
ashy larry have you ever seen the original costumed mascot we had, before Cocky? They had the suit on display at McKissick Museum once. Looked scarier and more like the bird in that logo, haha
Verdict: yes, it's a legitimate older logo. Here is a post from 2018 that has more info https://www.garnetandblackattack.co...me-other-retro-south-carolina-gamecocks-logos
jrmy according to this, the TE coach is Jody Wright and not Brewster :/ https://www.on3.com/teams/south-car...ected-to-be-named-gamecocks-tight-ends-coach/
That’s fucking sick IMO. Looks like something out of a medieval fever dream give that mother fucker a lance and a shield
Jody Wright is a solid hire. Brewster probably would have given us more immediate help but Wright is a potential long term guy. Wright seems to fit a Beamer staff more. Younger and more in tune with modern recruiting versus Brewster having really solid ties to NC. Who knows but I don’t dislike the hire. The most recent interviews with Martin sound like a dead man walking. No faith that Tanner will handle it well.
No idea. Feel like there are two paths. One would be a Beamer type - Furman coach for example. The other would be to go get a proven winner that forces our AD to step up the funding for MBB. Just wish we had a different AD making the decision.
Sat next to Josiah James's mom at the Tennessee game. Absolutely brutal. She screamed the ENTIRE game in my ear. Grabbed me by the shoulders and shook me when he hit a 3. The patience of Job was exhibited on my part. Sad part is I can't blame her, just blame my own team for sucking. And she let everybody in the section know the reason he's at UT and not SC is because he didn't like Martin. I guess we may have dodged a bullet on that one anyway
Enough talent in state to be a tournament team most years. Love a PJ Dozier type to coach in the future. He’s still playing but a young guy with NBA skill, dad was a coach, loves the state, grew up in Columbia, etc. you’ll never get everybody but you have to get one every few years. Zion, Ja Morant, Kevin Garnett, etc. Basically Clowney for basketball. Get a stud then put some solid players around him. Build.
Jerry Stackhouse is sucking at Vanderbilt. He's not from TN though and Vandy is a bit of a different situation I guess. According to some, SC will never get a Zion because of shoe contracts, so our best bet is find lesser known guys who will stick around and build a core
Don’t think we ever had a chance with Zion for a lot of reasons but you have to land an in state stud every once and a while. We needed to break away for UA a long long long time ago. Nike would change our whole athletic department. New AD = better business acumen.
I don’t mind UA. They just have very obvious limitations. Their baseball gear and basketball brand don’t compete with Nike or Adidas. Our basketball program has never been on a level playing field with AAU and shoe contracts.
Also think there's a good probability Brewster would be gone in a year or so. He's basically just bouncing around at this point with no real direction. Wright has a strong pedigree as a recruiter and evaluator from his time at Alabama and with the Giants.
Long post from new Gamecock Central On3 board. This is for TC and those that were asking about possible MBB replacement coaches. I think this poster has a good list. In one of the replies the mention Ryan Odom as the “Beamer” type hire. Don’t remember how to spoiler or I would to save screen space. I don’t really enjoy making lists about a job that isn’t open, kind of like I don’t enjoy calling for someone’s job unless for ethical or criminal reasons. With Gamecock basketball hitting lows right now, it seems more and more likely that a change will be made, but until then, I hope our fans will still support the program. If you have the ability to get to a game, do it! @svjkn i hope this what you were looking for. *These are not all coaches I would choose, just looking at who could fit the bill for how we typically hire and who we could offer a lot of money to. Mid-Major 1) Niko Medved - Colorado State - Medved is responsible for the turnaround of Furman and Colorado State basketball. Although he has yet to make an NCAA tournament, it is due mainly to the fact that he hasn’t stuck around to enjoy the fruits of his labor. He has taken better jobs—Furman to Drake to Colorado State. He had Colorado State in the top 25 this season and currently is 17-3 in a very tough Mountain West that has 3 teams vying for the league crown (Boise State and Wyoming leading the way currently). 2) Ryan Odom - Utah State - Yes, I listed Dave Odom’s son, but he’s had a pretty damn good coaching career so far. He was the coach of UMBC, the first 16 seed to ever upset a 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. Utah State is a great basketball gig, and it may be a tough sell. The appeal is getting a guy that is very familiar with fertile recruiting grounds. He’s coached at Furman, UNC-Asheville, Virginia Tech, and Charlotte. So he’s an east coast guy. Would he want to come back to the east coast and coach at the school his dad was at to end his career? 3) Dennis Gates — Cleveland State — a very intriguing name. He should be a really hot commodity despite his experience as a head coach (only in his third season). He has absolutely transformed the Cleveland State basketball program in that time though. Cleveland state won a combined 31 games in the three seasons before his arrival. His first season he won 11 games, but year 2 went 19-8 including an ncaa tournament bid. This season he has Cleveland State at 16-5 and first place in the Horizon (12-2). He’s a coach from the Leonard Hamilton tree and was widely regarded for his recruiting ability. 4) Darian DeVries — Drake — is a name that will be on a lot of radars. He took over the Drake program after Medved bolted for Colorado State. He’s won 20 games every season since he’s been at the school, and made the ncaa tournament last season for the first time since 2008. He’s off the McDermott coaching tree. The knock I have on him is simply head coaching experience and the fact that he’s only been at Creighton and Drake his entire coaching career. 5) Grant McCasland — North Texas — The guy has won everywhere he’s been. A part of the Scott Drew tree. Took Midwestern State to consecutive division 2 elite eights before jumping on the Drew train for 5 seasons. Coached Arkansas State for a season improving them from 11 wins to 20 wins. The following season, took over an abysmal North Texas program and went 20-18 winning the CBI championship. Followed that up with a 21 win season. His third season he won the conference regular season championship before Covid shut down conference tournaments. Last season, he made the ncaa tournament and won a game. This season he has a record of 17-4 the best conference record in the league (ahead of favorite UAB and Andy Kennedy). High Major coaches 1) Bobby Hurley — Arizona State — has majorly flipped this season. The luster is definitely wearing off of him at ASU currently and rumor had it that he was looking for a way out at ASU before this season. He’s got a solid recruiting reputation, but has floundered as of late compared to what he’d done 2 or 3 classes ago. 2) Steve Forbes — Wake Forest - this seems highly unlikely, because it feels like awake will lock him up after this season and it would probably take a very significant pay check to get him to leave. He has turned Wake around in just his second season and had a very good 5-year stint at East Tennessee State winning no less than 24 games per season and making the ncaa tournament twice. The appeal is that he is really good at utilizing JUCO players and the transfer portal. 3) Chris Mack — Fired at Louisville — I’m putting him on the list because this is a Gamecock type hire. I’m not sure if he’d even be interested, but his failed tenure at Louisville only lasted 4 seasons. I’m not sure what anyone at Louisville is thinking here because the job is extremely unattractive given the trouble they seem to be in and the likelihood of getting some severe penalties, but Mack’s first two seasons weren’t awful. He made the ncaa tournament year 1, and was definitely in year 2 if not for Covid. Then things sort of..came undone. He was a big winner at Xavier making the ncaa tournament 8 out of 9 seasons including an elite 8 run. He’ll probably get some looks at other jobs, but SC has done worse hiring coaches… and in my opinion, Mack would be a step up over Richey, McKie or Boynton….. 4) Kevin Willard — Seton Hall — sure, it seems unlikely. He turned down Virginia Tech a couple years ago, but that was when he was winning at a high level in the Big East. Last season saw him miss the ncaa tournament for the first time in 5 season, and this season has been a roller coaster also with Seton Hall currently sitting at 14-7 and 7th in the Big East standings. Maybe Willard needs a change of scenery? Hard to envision big time programs going through changes giving him a look, but the Gamecocks could offer him more money. 5) Mike Boynton —Oklahoma State— Former gamecock who took over a program that had serious allegations hanging over it from the FBI investigation. This is a popular choice with Gamrcock fans simply because he’s a gamecock, not because of anything else he’s done on the court. As I stated at the end of last season, OSU would take a major step back this season. 11-11 currently. No need for applause, I have patted myself on the back plenty enough. Overhyped recruiter at a program that has everything it needs to recruit well. Hey, at least he’s a Gamecock though.
At least something good happened at the bball game last night apparently. "Shane Beamer being presented the Steve Spurrier First-Year Coach of the Year Award by none other than the HBC himself . When Beamer began to address the crowd, the very first thing he did was thank Spurrier for bringing him to South Carolina in 2007."
Who was at the bball game Dec 4, 2004 when Spurrier was introduced and gave the "why not us" speech? I will never forget that. (Date's easy to remember bc I remember him talking about the SECCG being that day and saying it was "always his favorite game" and he'd get us there)
We should get the guy from Washington State, Kyle Smith. He’s not exactly “young” (50ish), but he’s a big “moneyball”/analytics guy. https://www.si.com/college/2021/08/23/wazzu-basketball-kyle-smith-moneyball
Watched the whole game last night and I was encouraged by our effort. Too little too late though. Frank will be gone at season’s end. Wish it had worked out but hope he finds a good fit at Cincy or somewhere similar. New president, new AD, new MBB coach…FTT
Spring Game to be played on Saturday night this year. I'm still prob not going, but I like the idea. Gamecock fans love their night games
