You realize that pro athletes rarely directly negotiate with the teams the play for? Agents exist. It’s dumb for an athlete to directly negotiate because they lose leverage. Conversely agents are constantly asking for more for their clients, it’s their job. This sends a message to the ownership that “hey it’s not just my agent getting greedy, I’m actually upset.” Whether this is good/effective/mature can be debated but simply saying “wow what a child” is incredibly naive. did you believe the story about TJ Watt going to Rooney’s office to iron out his deal?
