We do have a grinder. Don’t think it’s anything special, like a Cuisinart or something. Like $750 - $1K I guess?
don’t get me wrong, not trying to spend $1k if I don’t have to, i just assumed a good one cost about that much solely based on very quick research
I enjoy my setup for a couple years Baratza Sette 270 Grinder Breville Infuser don’t get built in grinder. Sette is all you’ll need and you may upgrade the espresso maker in future. Keep them separate.
Seems like 12oz bags of beans are a thing of the past. Consistently seeing 10oz bags from local roasters I enjoy.
You're going to need to allocate half of that on a grinder, unless you can go with a hand grinder. What will your split between espresso and coffee be? Unless it's gonna be predominantly espresso, the nespresso may be a good idea
This. Baratza often sells Sette 270 Refurbs or try looking on home-barista.com for people selling their old gear (a lot of espresso enthusiasts get the upgrade bug pretty fast). Breville Infuser is a good bet but keep an eye on used Rancilio Silvias with PID
After reading into all this a little further, you both make a good point on the Nespresso. I’ll probably end up going with an espresso machine and that baratza sette grinder, but the Nespresso machine is clearly the far more rational purchase.
Breville bambino plus is smaller less costly option than infuser. To get your feet wet. Just noting as option if you go nespresso and want latte. Get a steamer wand option like Creatista. Not the milk container that it dispenses. Cleaning nightmare. Or the aero milk frother thing
Fellow drops seems to be getting more expensive. Bag looks great but I’m not dropping $32 on 12oz of beans
Yeah - it definitely sucks but unfortunately, it seems like these are getting prevalent across the board (not to mention, the bag sizes are going from 12oz to 10 or 10 to 8.8oz). I'm already starting to look at having a "daily driver" type coffee & order 2-5LB bag at hand, and reduce the # of smaller bags I end up getting through one-offs like Fellow or purchases on a whim..
I just canceled my Coffee Collective sub (temporarily), as I can't keep up. Plan to continue ordering the Bold Bean SE Club & supplementing with Drops as needed. I ordered the Gesha
I've settled in on counter culture's sub of a random bag every two weeks. That's my sweet spot for quality and cost
Bold Bean again... I'd grab this off Drops, their recent stuff has been outrageous Edit: Just saw it was $50. That's aggressive, but still probably worth it.
Btw. Latest coffee collective have not been impressed. Very burnt and bitter. Unless it’s my espresso brewing. But my other coffees are fantastic. I cancelled for now. Too much coffee in stock and arriving
Their normal bags are still 12-16 oz, I think. They only cut when it's the really good shit honestly.
I was back at my parents house in Atlantic beach for thanksgiving. Wasn’t able to make it to bold bean, but did hit up a local spot that used their beans. I have really enjoyed all their offerings.
They have a shop in Jax Beach, right off 3rd Street... just a mile or so down the road from your parents. Worth hitting up next time you are there.
Shit. Oh well. Next time. I didn’t bother looking them up as I assumed their location near PV was the only one. My favorite roaster here in San Diego has a bag for $82. I just looked it up and realized it’s a 6oz bag. Holy shit. Didn’t know they even made them that small.
That's the one, but it's not in PVB. The MILF views are glorious at that location. The one by me, where they started roasting is full of hipsters
I just did inventory. I have six bags of Bold Bean. Three came today. Three of them are Sweet Spot, one of my favs, but I need to get through this. Five bags coffee collective, two bags blue bottle, one from Trade that just came in. I do three double shots daily, but this still takes a while.....
7 Bags of Coffee Collective checking in... with 2 Drops pending & another BB Rare expected this month.
I always try to finish my bag before I get a new one. Brew 24g V60 cup in the AM and that’s it for the day. If I run out of beans and am waiting on a delivery, I use those days to discover new shops or roasters in my area.
Woof, you spreading that out a good bit or go back to back to back? I’ll do 2 14g doubles pretty close together, a 3rd would not go well for my household
Instantly purchased and then realized it was 8 ounce bags. Hope it’s good. Not loving the April coffee so far. Have enjoyed Onyx Framily
Onyx beans have the weirdest reaction with every grinder I own. It's always like 10% chaff with every bag I've had
I feel onyx isn't what it used to be. Smaller bags, QC isn't the same, $$ spent on marketing and hype, flavors feel milder and they've started charging as if they're Sey. On the matter of $$, I ordered a couple 1lb bags from S & W Roasting - they're pretty lowkey and have a website that was designed on AOL but I've heard good things and most of their beans were 16-18$ for a 1lb bag. Worth a try at that point - worst case, ends up as cold brew.
S&W is great. I've done the sampler and have never been disappointed. The guy is active on reddit gives out the following discount codes: Redditor15Off will give you 15% off of beans, and RedditorFreeShip3SOs will give you free Priority Mail shipping on 3 pound orders
