Yeah. For it to end like this sucks but damn - he's right to an extent; he created this monster and now he can't find his way out. The team is soft, doesn't play defense and lacks playmakers. He recruited these guys. The buck stops with him.
How noble of him apologizing to them for not bringing in transfers to play over/with them because he believed they could get it done!
Really good coach about 5 years post his expiration date. Happens to everyone in coaching. Shame on nd as well for not ending thisngracefully
It really is. He's been such a likable and loyal coach. And it's easy to forget that when things were working, we've seen some of the best basketball ever played at ND. But it's definitely time. Exactly. This really sounds like he had transfer options but passed in deference to his guys. And I don't know if it's being too nice, lazy, or a combination of both. There's no excuse in major college athletics these days to not always do whatever it takes to improve the roster-even if it hurts feelings or puts down on your recruiting approach. Luckily, it looks like the football staff is picking up on this. Hopefully the next basketball coach can come in and quickly reload.
Ive not seen him in a 1st round mock, he’s a 2nd rounder to me Mayer 1st, Patterson 3rd, Joseph 5th, Lugg 5th, Jayson Ade 6th, Bracy 6th, Justin Ade UDFA
yeah late first early second feels about right to me, but here's what I was referencing. https://www.caesars.com/sportsblog/...odds-first-overall-pick-bryce-young-cj-stroud
Interesting thought from the Inside ND pod, if/when Brey is replaced we will have turned over the major sports coaches over the last 3 years (minus hockey) pretty wild after having people that seemed like lifers in those spots.
Honestly, Jeff Jackson might not be super far behind. His teams have fallen to some level of mediocrity over the past few years. Larger problem there is ND doesn’t have a historical track record of having a good-to-great hockey program, so getting rid of the one coach who got you there brings up the potential scenario of falling back to a mediocre program at best. But it also may be time.
Buchner isn't ging anywhere. His family is building a house near campus. He'll at least get his degree with his sister playing soccer.
Christ, the rest of our 2023 schedule played out in the worst way possible. No byes prior to Ohio State, USC, or Clemson
Also Sam Hartman is going to take a victory lap around the stadium after beating Wake Forest which I hate for cfb at large but in this particular instance I find it acceptable/good.
getting 2 of the three hard games at home works in NDs favor. Outside of those 3, they play a whole bunch of Stanford Marshall level teams, so nothing to worry about there. Would love to switch a bye week before Clemson (bc it will not happen before the SC game with the academic schedule), that would have been ideal
I think having a bye before big games is a little overrated to be honest. As long as the big games are spaced out, I think its fine, and this season is very nicely divided into little mini sections, with byes late in the year for recovery. Also we don't have a bye during week 5 for our quality backups to sit around and get an extra week to think about transferring, which is nice.
I really like the flow of the schedule except one thing and that is At Duke after Ohio State, that's going to be Elko's Super Bowl
While I think it's annoying, I don't really care too much, but the sheer numbers corroborate the annoyance
The quantity is wild, but at least ND is elite in that situation. It helps that the ACC absolutely stinks.
Well at least we don’t have to deal with the classic bk qb controversy. He named both qbs as swat leaders I’m sure he takes it into the season crippling both of their confidence
yeah every season needs a trendy upset pick/trap game, and that's definitely the one it'll be this year.
I’m legit excited for the culture clash and the idea that there might be even a modicum of excitement and enthusiasm in the stadium
Well my wife gave birth to a 9lb 7oz 22inch monster of a son on 1/3 so looks like Teo will have some competition in this courtship
our other son was 8lbs 10oz and we thought he was big, Baby Nico puts him to shame get this- wife got him out in one push, wild stuff
I don't. Introducing my imaginary daughter to Manti's kid was a poor attempt at a joke. I'd take a lap, but you know....49 and all.
