Not saying it was as good as the Texas supporting cast (or the UNC one that Love had), especially when it came to the depth of the team, but the starting lineup talent around Carr wasn't the problem in his two seasons at Minnesota. He was next to Gabe Kalscheur both seasons, and he was a 2nd-Team All Big 12 player at Iowa State. His first year, he had Daniel Oturu in the post who was a 20 and 10 guy that ended up being a 2nd round pick. And his second year, they had Liam Robbins (1st Team All-SEC this year at Vanderbilt) and Jamal Mashburn Jr. (1st Team All-Mountain West this year at New Mexico). The problem for Carr was Pitino's inability to trust the bench, forcing him to play too many minutes (the current FAU PG, Bryan Greenlee, was a freshman on the first Carr team but almost never saw the floor). Then on top of that, Pitino's system was to rely on ball dominant guards to make plays, and just let him take control. Carr was basically free to do what he wanted and wasn't held accountable for it by the coaching staff. But put him in a more structured situation and play him 34-35 minutes instead of 38-39 minutes a game, I wasn't surprised to see him to adjust and become a steadier presence at Texas under the circumstances. I'd have less confidence in Love doing that, but I guess stranger things have happened.
Think exit interviews are next week. We’re obviously very active in the portal and will have at least 3 leave for the NBA draft. I could see Ford, Dunning, Mitchell twins, and Pinion all exploring other options. Black, NSJ, and potentially Council (50/50) going to the draft and Kamani graduating…. Walsh, Brazile and Devo are expected to be back oh, and Graham is gone too imo
The twins will be a package deal stay or go. Can't see Pinion, Dunning and Ford all staying. It's going to be interesting.
only watched him a couple of times but he's talented. More of a scoring guard than pure PG, quick. He's skinny and I think that held back his recruitment, I think really only UW and BC recruited him among the bigger leagues. Was the leading scorer on the EYBL circuit as a rising senior.
Xavier will likely only have 2 or 3 returning players next season. Most of the starters are out of eligibility or going pro while the bench was full of shitty leftovers from the old coach. Three of the bench guys have already entered the portal with more likely occurring in the next week. Should be a crazy offseason as Miller will need to add at least 3 - 4 transfers to go with the few returning players and his 4 man freshman class.
The bright side is the incoming freshmen will be strong and should see some serious PT. It's frontcourt heavy, though. Really going to have to address guard and some experience/strength up front in the portal. But, this situation isn't unusual these days. ND is also having to completely rebuild the roster.
Not surprising. He was a huge disappointment. His last game was against Iowa in the tourney and played 9 mins and recorded no stats and 1 foul.
Mizzou was trying to get him to enter the portal last year. I would think theyre heavily involved here
I actually don't think the freshman will play a ton outside of Green. I don't think Miller is going to be happy having a rebuilding year with young guys which is why I think he brings in at least 3 - 4 transfers. Swain, Ducharme and Craft (if he returns) will fight for minutes off the bench imo because I think 2 transfers will be brought in to start alongside Des Claude in the backcourt. Sean has said he wants to play with two ball handlers and Claude could either be one of those guys or he's big enough to play the 3. The positions don't matter a lot in the motion offense ran this year, more important who they can guard on defense. The 4 and 5 positions will need at least one transfer and potentially more if Hunter or Freemantle don't come back. I think the transfers will be a pg, sg/wing, c, and then potentially another 4/5.
Two years ago we contacted 73 portal players, last year it was 60, this year already over 60. It’s just making contact with a bunch of them, not actually offering them… but portal recruiting is Muss’ crack addiction
He can create and hit those mid range shots every now and then. Basically what Council does, but yeah his 3 pt shooting is pretty terrible but I think his form is fine unlike Council who shoots with his thumbs like a middle schooler
