The beat clearly is hyping Killian more than just "he's improving". Dude will have 9 straight awful games and then put up an inefficient 20/8 game with like 5 TO and twitter will be flooded with those guys saying "wonder why no one is talking tonight ". I've definitely posted numerous tweets itt from those dudes far beyond "he's improving". And is he really improving? Shooting percentage still worst in league. More points but taking more shots. Assist numbers up but so are turnovers.
I also think this town has historically team friendly writers who blow smoke for the local teams. Now the local teams have ALL had extended periods of struggle simultaneously and the reporters aren't doing any hard hitting pieces or asking any tough questions and trying to instead sell us Killian not sucking, Avila doing a good job, etc that fans have had enough and are revolting a little bit. And since Killian seems to be their pet project to defend, he's gotten the bullseye on him
I would think him not supporting the staff in the letter is a sign that Casey is gone. Edwards had been saying lately he thinks Casey returns which would be an absolute failure by Weaver.
Within a month and a half we’re going to know so much more about Detroit sports future with the NFL draft and this year’s NBA lottery.
Same shit, different year. Optimism for about a month, cheer for losing the rest of the year, cheer for luck in the lottery, cheer for picks to not suck. Rinse and repeat.
Yes, but not just because I am a bigger hockey fan than basketball. The bigger thing is as ridiculous as Wemby is as a player, we all know he’s gonna turn into Greg Oden for us. Regardless of that, we have to take him. I’ll just watch every game he plays assuming it’s the last.
Wemby size worries me about injuries for sure, also think Bedard instantly speeds up wings rebuild. But I wouldn't complain about either
We will end up picking 5th. Team will suck ass again next year. And we’ll have some of you clowns saying we will be thrilled to go 30-52 in 2025 this time next year.
I assume Gores has some say in keeping or firing Casey with a year left on his deal, but Weaver not mentioning Casey speaks volumes.
Wiseman/Hayes 22 shots 21 points Duren/Ivey 23 shots 50 points Maybe should reconsider whose getting the shots
Been listening to too much NBA radio lately and they seem to think Brown wants out of Boston. Would you do a swap of Bojan/Ivey plus 1-2 future firsts for Brown? Feel like that package would be enticing to the Celtics and would leave the Pistons with a core of Cade/Brown/Duren and flexibility to have a lineup fit with pretty much any of the top 4-5 draft prospects
I think we are not allowed to trade any future 1sts for a while because the one we traded for Stewart could vest in next couple of years. If I'm not mistaken 2029 is the first 1st rd pick we can trade right now. Or a 2028 pick swap would also be possible but nothing until after 2027
Broadcast team was told tonight to sell how promising the future is. Ivey and Duren look legit, Ivey really needs to work on his turnovers though. But that's a rookie thing
Only issue is we haven’t really seen them play together. I think Ivey is better with the ball in his hands. Who is primary ball handler next season? And say we end up picking 2nd. You can’t pass on Henderson’s star potential. Then we got major roster problem.
If we end up at 2, I think there's a decent chance that some interesting trade opportunities present themselves. The one thing we have going for us heading into the offseason is a pretty diverse portfolio in terms of the kinds of trades we can make with a top 5 pick, a bunch of young guys on rookie deals, cap space, and Bogdanovic. I have no clue who will be available, but I think the 2nd pick in this draft could you get at least a borderline all-star type.
I think they rotate ball handling duties and both have very different games. Cade slows it down, is methodical and can make a lot of nice subtle moves to get to where he wants. Ivey is more speed and come at you. You can change up the pace rotating ball handling duties. Again the thing with Ivey he needs to work a lot on is playing in control. His turnovers are starting to get to worrying levels (again he's a rookie so not uncommon). He's averaging 4.5 turnovers a game over past month+. The league worst is Trae at 4 per game, and their are only 15 players who even average 3 or more. I think at start limiting him a little bit on ballhandling may be helpful
I haven't watched in a while so I have no clue what kind of turnovers he's making and how correctable they are. I will say that I have a hard time holding turnovers against a guy who is playing in a line-up with Killian Hayes, James Wiseman and Jalen Duren at the same time. That's not setting him up for any success and it purposefully adding multiple bodies into the paint on every possession.
I definitely think the double bigs hurts him. He goes full speed to the rim a lot and sometimes doesn't have a plan B if it doesn't work and his shots get blocked or leads to turnovers. There is a fine line with him between playing fast and out of control, and I really think that is something he can fix. Long term I'm not super alarmed by it, but it's been about the only negative trend with him recently
Cade also is best when he is attacking the rim. Those two together next year better have at least two 3 point threats/spacers on floor with them in starting lineup and probably Duren as a lob threat/rebounder. Any lineup with Wiseman/Duren and Cade/Ivey probably isn't ideal
He seems to lose concentration and just randomly toss it away here and there. Very correctable for a guy who works as hard as he does.
I think better scheme, coaching, and talent around him plus experience should help him a ton. He is developing some nice chemistry with Duren too, which is good because he's probably the only guy he's playing with now who should be on this team going forward (Maybe Wiseman, but he is a whole different discussion)
Funny how Wiseman a -14 in 8 minutes of play and they win by 7. Team has a lot of issues, but the Duren/Wiseman double big has been such a disaster, they look a lot better with one of them out of lineup
Traded for Wiseman Feb 9th.... not blaming it all on him. But the idea he and Duren could play together solidified the tank. They will have 25 mil tied up next year in backup bigs between him and Bagley.
