Last I read he declared for the draft but keeping his eligibility open for now. Or maybe that’s the speculation I read. I haven’t really been paying much attention to be honest.

This is what happens every year with the point(s) of emphasis. Refs call it reasonably strictly. Coaches and players, but mostly coaches, refuse to adapt from day one of preseason because it means having to coach differently than what they are accustomed to doing. Coaches whine and bitch in games and in press conferences until they are blue in the face. Come conference play the refs dial it back to the way it was the previous season.
