As a fan of a charter SEC school, let me just say we want no part of Miami. Would dilute the brand. Would accept: Clemson North Carolina Florida State (maybe) Duke (basketball only)
The cool thing would be if someone woke up from a coma and Vandy/Miami were playing a game, and all you saw were shots of the crowd, you wouldn’t know who the home team was.
Does anyone else find it weird that NBC/Peacock is running B1G Saturday night ads on a network that's supposed to be for Notre Dame?
I was under the impression that the B1G was a Fox product and that the whole reason ND went with NBC was for exclusive rights/be the flagship of the network.
I can't wait for 2040 when it'll become just one conference and then 2055 or so we'll be back to 5-6 conferences again because the people running this are infinitely fucking dumb.
One run by Clemson where they happened to have 2 of the best QBs in cfb doesn’t particularly persuade me that they would be competitive in the SEC. Clemson ultimately is not that big of a brand. Adding them is a long-term risk post-Dabo.
this is all everyone trying to get ahead anyway just in case. these are just the schools with the most appeal at this point. man, if the B1G took VT and UVA they would own the entirety of the mid-Atlantic forever. if someone lives in the DMV with a college degree there's like a 95+% chance it's one from VT/UVA/PSU/UMD. you could start hosting events in that area and guaranteeing sellouts with that many alums in and around.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but from a political standpoint, aren't UNC, Duke, and NC State all connected? Where one goes, the rest follow. (The same could be said about UVA and Tech)
UNC and NCSU, yea. Duke is private and doesn’t have any real standing in the legislature. I’d personally be surprised if the NCGA let UNC split off from NC State, and a former UNC chancellor has said the same, but people in California probably said that about UCLA.
I'll say for UVA and VT it's not necessarily they have to go together but both would need landing spots before the legislature would agree to it. not sure if UNC and NCSU are attached at the hip but I'd assume the same applies where they both have to have a place to be before they get the go-ahead.
VT and NC St just seem like they’re perfect for the future BIGXII to me. I don’t see either the SEC or B1G wanting Clemson, so I guess them too. But I also expect a rough coming back down to earth in the upcoming years for them. I think you’d likely see the SEC and B1G both pursue UNC, UVA, FSU, and Miami, and likely in that order of interest.
It all depends on where the final numbers end up. I could definitely see that happening, though I do think UVA would be more appealing to both the SEC and B1G than either Florida school. I think the B1G also has to figure out if ND is in their future plans or not. It seems to make sense they should be, considering the rivalries. But, like I said, it all depends on where the numbers end up.
i think the powers that be in chapel hill are old and nostalgic and dumb and will screw this up because they’re too loyal to the days of the 9 team acc
Any truth to the rumor that they talked about how right Brett McMurphy was by picking the Red Raiders to win the Big 12 for four hours?
It’s not out of the realm of possibility. 2 academic institutions for the Big 10 and 2 new states for the SEC.
I absolutely think they are “in” if the acc explodes. I do question Virginia commitment to football but yea academics make good points. Miami and fsu academics aren’t going to inhibit them either but it’s not a selling point. Still think money/eyeballs is where the value resides.
Speaking corporately for a second, I think the SEC probably wants a stronger foothold into Charlotte and all the banks there. Does UNC get you that? Idk, but it's worth a shot.
The new state bullshit matters way less than people think. The cable networks learned the extremely hard way when the b1g hoodwinked them with buttgers. Drawing eyeballs and putting up marquee matchups that draw nationwide is the currency of future expansion
I would be okay with the B1G staying as is for awhile. I think most B1G folks would welcome Notre Dame with open arms but I hope we tell them to get fucked, go try your hand in the SEC and see how that works out.
Think people are ignoring the political issue with adding a Florida school to the B1G in the current times.
Exactly. Already; not taking an action in which a Florida school is marginally more profitable than a UVA or UNC
Why are you so sure? If the numbers are not significantly different, it’s going to matter more. Also, at a certain point, DeSantis’s bullshit hurts the numbers directly in the longer-term.
