Do most of them having us hosting? Seems like a long shot but I could be wrong. This would be the first time we hosted since UNC beat us in the Tuscaloosa regional back in like 2005?
We might end up on probation because our coach was leaking information to people betting against us. It would be a lack of institutional control violation if it happens. If that happens we may lose scholarships or have other penalties. Thus to attract a top flight coach we might have to pay even more than under normal circumstances.
Yeah, I’m not sure how lack of institutional control would even apply, unless others within the organization knew. We fired him immediately.
that will be our argument. I can tell you that we’re worried about it though. It’s not a slam dunk that we get out with no punishment. We’re still investigating whether it was just isolated to the head coach.
100% right on the heels of not being invited to the combine. So weird. I’m going to assume the staff was surprised by this.
I wish him the best but he’s not getting drafted. Pointless entry. Could’ve easily done this next year and had a slight chance of being drafted. No chance this year.
oh we are fucked. No front court aside from Pringle. Bediako waited so long to do it so now basically every good big is gone. Fuck. We could’ve sold playing time to a bunch of them but now they’re off the board and we don’t have much to choose from. Evidently we feel good about Jarin Stevenson or whatever from next years classy reclassifying but that doesn’t fill the major need which is a rim protector now. Pringle is good but the length of Bediako is what makes our defense. Go all in on that white kid from north Dakota St or whatever. Throw all the money. Then go all in after some big 7 footer. Don’t care.
seems likely but we did replace basically an entire team last year and look how it turned out new staff but Oats has shown the ability to add some very quality players very late in the process. It will require pulling a rabbit out of a hat though to be sure.
Although I do say that "ass" in basketball is now just making the tournament. Which is nice. I would be a little shocked if we didn't do that especially with the way we schedule.
We won’t be under .500 but if we don’t put something together now with some magic from Oats and co we are going to be very very small in the post and struggle with rebounding and protecting the rim sans Pringle. I’m high on Pringle but he doesn’t have the length that Bediako did that protects the rim and deters/alters shots. He can jump and block but teams can also expose that and get him in the air. We saw that last year too. Im not writing Oats and co off, but we need some major magic from them now. Basically every proven big is off the board and we are left with scraps. Maybe some pull out of the draft and we can snag one but time is running out. And there are only so many talented bigs anyway. Really hate that Bediako waited this long to announce purely because we could’ve sold playing time to a major center. Very disappointing that he chose to leave 1. Because I think it’s a terrible decision and he could’ve easily improved his stock next year 2. By announcing this late we are kinda screwed on finding a talented big.
Very shocking we just dropped Papa Kante now too. He seemed like a Bediako clone that could step in at the 5 maybe in 2024-25. Probably wasn't going to be ready next year but he could have sat behind Pringle.
yeah very odd how we’ve handled these spots remaining. He would’ve been the perfect replacement to get ready when Bediako leaves. Literally had the same type of game. Very weird. At this point I really don’t know where you turn. Maybe there’s some surprise coming but I just don’t see a lot of talent out there remaining for us to scoop up.
I bet the current limitations on international students earning NIL played a big part in Chuck’s decision. Sucks.
Was he going to become a 1st round pick next year? He's a ways off but if an NBA team is willing to put him on a two way, I don't think that's so catastrophic.
I think if he put more weight on during the off season and showed a little more offensive game next year he’d have a chance to be a second rounder. But it is what it is.
The one thing I will say I kind of understand about Bediako's decision is that he is never going to develop offensively in this system. It is a hard system to sell for a 5 man imo.
NBA minimum contract for 0 year players will increase by almost 75% next year. As a two way contract making 1/2 the minimum, he could make upwards of $850k, depending on how much time he actually spent active on the roster, with the minimum being about 1/10th of that. That’s tough to turn down when you can’t get paid NIL and you are in a system that’s not likely to develop the spots in your game the NBA says needs to be developed. At least it would be for me.
Undoubtedly, the smooth brains will be calling for, or alluding to, his firing at some point in the season.
