My old company was headquarters there. I've been a bunch. Awful airport, shit town, cheap casinos. I couldn't find the picture, but in the sole men's restroom the men's toilet was (is) being held up by 2x4s stacked up. It was amazing. Thar way for at least 2-3 yrs
I’m driving to Florida where it’s storming bc I wanna have sex with someone other than myself and that’s where bae is
Head over to the Horseshoe. Decent food inside for a casino in the middle of no where. Burger & pho places both solid. Play some cheap craps and j/o at the end of the evening. Fly tomorrow
I was going to say Margaritaville might be a decent option. We had a friend get so drunk there he left the pool side bar to go to the restroom and got lost on his way back. So he just sat down in a random hall way and took a nap. That town is a different world.
Margaritaville might be a little too high class for blind dog and in general for Shreveport. Horseshoe is trashy and ancient. Rooms were like $69 for a massive suite that was last updated in '87. Fit perfectly
Business United Airlines CEO Apologizes for Taking Private Jet During Flight Disruptions Airline has been slower to recover from storms than others; company says United didn’t pay for CEO’s flight By Alison Sider Updated June 30, 2023 8:07 pm ET United said it expects delays and cancellations to decline, as other airlines are essentially back to normal ahead of the busy travel weekend. Photo: Mario Tama/Getty Images United Airlines Chief Executive Scott Kirby apologized for taking a private jet from Teterboro Airport in New Jersey to Denver this week as his airline grappled with widespread weather disruptions. “Taking a private jet was the wrong decision because it was insensitive to our customers who were waiting to get home,” Kirby said in a statement Friday. “I sincerely apologize to our customers and our team members who have been working around-the-clock for several days—often through severe weather—to take care of our customers.” A United spokeswoman said Kirby took the flight Wednesday because he was unable to secure a seat on a commercial flight. The company didn’t pay for the private flight, she said. Wednesday was a hectic day for United: The carrier canceled over 750 mainline flights, according to FlightAware, over a quarter of what it had scheduled. The night before, a long stretch of bad storms in New York led to logjams at the area’s airports, including United’s Newark hub. Some travelers over the past week have been stranded for days while waiting for space on flights home, in some cases sleeping in the airport. Travelers said they spent hours waiting in line for assistance or to be reunited with checked bags. https://www.wsj.com/articles/united...h-of-july-weekend-884b4130?mod=article_inline
I'm watching Joe Kernan argue on SquakBox that a CEO does have to be able to travel at the drop of a hat for his responsibilities, and the company didn't pay for the private flight. And I agree with that . But there is no way it doesn't look bad to have thousands of stranded customers and the CEO is flying around the country.
Saw the backlash and sort of agreed. Perhaps there’s some sort of norm about airline employees not flying private? Not sure
Flight last Sunday got stranded in ATL heading west due to weather and pilots timing out. Flying back home yesterday, flight got rerouted and stuck in a holding pattern for an hour because of weather. Missed my connection cause my flight took off on time and got stranded in ATL again and they wouldn’t pay for a hotel cause cause weather was the cause for delay. Delta can fuck off if they want to charge more than everyone else and not have any decency to help stranded passengers
Thank you, sir! Bought 60 Plus Points for my wife and I yesterday off Ebay for $325 and are now 1 and 2 on the upgrade list with 20+ Polaris seats open a few weeks from departure. Looking good.
LEAVE MY HACK ALONE! Greedy bastards! Teen Detained At Airport For Using Hack To Book Cheaper Flight By Jason Hall July 12, 2023 A North Carolina teenager was detained at an airport for using a layover hack to book a cheaper flight. Logan Parsons booked an American Airlines flight from Gainesville, Florida, to New York City with a layover in Charlotte, his actual intended destination, his father, Hunter, told Daily Mail. The teenager, who had never previously flown alone, realized that booking the additional stop at JFK Airport in New York City and instead 'skiplagging' the second flight was significantly cheaper than booking a direct flight back to Charlotte. Parsons was, however, stopped by security after providing his identification at the gate and taken into a security room to be interrogated. The teenager's ticket was canceled and his family needed to purchase a direct ticket back to North Carolina. "They kind of got out of him that he was planning to disboard (sic) in Charlotte and not going to make the connecting flight," Hunter said via Daily Mail. Skiplagging isn't actually illegal, but is frowned upon in the aviation industry and violates some airlines' codes of conduct, according to Daily Mail. American Airlines' website lists one-way direct flights from Gainesville to Charlotte in July as costing between $255 and $547 based on varying departure times, while Skiplagged.com, the website the Parsons previously used to book flights, lists flights with a layover in Charlotte for $159. "We've used skiplagged almost exclusively for the last five to eight years," said Hunter, who claimed he wasn't worried about his son being stopped for the booking process. American Airlines said it was strongly against the process of skiplagging in a statement obtained by Daily Mail. "Purchasing a ticket without intending to fly all flights to gain lower fares (hidden city ticketing) is a violation of American Airlines terms and conditions and is outlined in our Conditions of Carriage online," the statement read.
The story is kinda weird, but if the kid tried to check a bag only to the first destination that would have probably outed him... It's kind if ridiculous that airlines can punish anybody for this tbh
Fuck the airlines and the ability to detain someone for this shit. If you want to refund his ticket or whatever for using skiplagged, okay. But that shit is ridiculous
If they're going to intentionally sell more tickets than there are seats on the plane, then they can eat my ass if they're going to complain about this.
He was probably caught because he's done it before. If you no show the 2nd leg of flights several times they likely have an algorithm spitting out that this person is likely skip lagging and had him red flagged the next time he had a connection through the same city.
Yep was just a matter of time. Airlines will revoke rewards, miles and all kinds of things if they catch you doing it.
I’m not sure what they even could “detain” him for. Maybe it was voluntary and he’s a teenager so he assumed he had to, but pretty sure you can’t hold somebody over them violating your terms of service.
I assume the family used the word detain to really dramatize it. He was probably pulled to the side by a gate agent or supervisor and talked to. It's not like United has some Mafia in the basement like a 1970s Vegas casino.
Just went to Aruba. Sat on the runway for three hours before taking off on the way there - lightning, nothing we could do about it. Sat on the runway after landing on the way back because there was confusion with the gates. I look out the window and there are 19 planes sitting in newark: all United, all waiting to unload their passengers.
Catastrophe in Charlotte right now with AA. Buddy’s flight was delayed 5 hours from Vegas to Charlotte yesterday, then the flight from Charlotte to Charleston was moved from last night to 10pm tonight. Massive lines, cancellations, and grounded flights apparently
Aviation has come such a long way that massive lines, cancellations, and grounded flights are now considered catastrophes.
I mean, this is the flip side of capitalism, right? Get your house in order. (I say this as someone who's 100% for people making choices.)
Yeah Charleston got pounded from around 5-9 or so. Apparently they couldn’t take off in Vegas because how hot it was. They needed to unload 10-20 people and that took ~2 hours to do. Then they waited another 2-3 hours for some other reason
Delta has cited a now-lifted ground stop in LaGuardia as the reason why my flight from Boston to DC that is currently sitting on the ground in Louisville has been delayed from 7:15 to 8:30, 9:15, 10:50, and now 11:45.
Well, I can assure you that you plane will be fully inspected and airworthy when it leaves Louisville. Louisville Maintenance, home of the "Over the fence" guarantee!
Station has had enough time to certify a new plane at this point. I’m just waiting to see whether my 5 year old or 3 year old melts down first.
