There's nothing more boring than the take that Trumpism is nothing but a collection of circumstances and people in history don't matter.
I could see the “movement” hanging on for a bit longer than you guys with Junior in charge but it will fizzle out after a few more years once they realize he isn’t his dad. assuming Trump doesn’t become emperor by then and end elections forever.
GBR? The 716 who were charged in Washington, DC on January 6th, traveled from all over the nation. The top states of origin were Florida, Pennsylvania, Texas, New York, and California, which accounted for 43.9 percent of those arrested. Of all insurrectionists charged, 11.5% (82 of 716) traveled from Florida, 8.9% (64 of 716) from Pennsylvania, 8.8% (63 of 716) from Texas, 7.4% (53 of 716) from New York, and 7.3% (52 of 716) from California. The only states not represented among the 716 arrested were North Dakota, Nebraska and Vermont.
Well the dog whistles and being mean to people they don't like is what sells it combined with his charisma.
The Republican party didn’t even bother to adopt an official platform for the last election, did they?
I feel like state elections, house, senate and gub elections aren't the sort of "referendum on Trump" that the media paints it as. But they are a referendum on "Trumpism" without Trump. Everytime we try to dissect what it is about Trump, and think there's some kernel of Trumpism someone else can scoop and score with-- turns out, nope! It's Trump. Only Trump. Just Trump.
Because it’s an identity. Being MAGA is more akin to supporting a team than it as any kind of cohesive ideology.
I know my home state (Nebraska) doesn’t have a lot of people, but this legit shocks me. I’m going to guess plenty were on their way but the big city streets confused them and they ended up in Pigeon Forge or some shit.
Honest question what more should have been done? Seems like they've gone pretty heavily after all the planners and notorious people caught on camera or people who were violent (hockey stick guy). Outside of speeding up action against Trump, I'm not sure who you control the narrative of 40% of this country who buys into every conspiracy and allow themselves to be taken advantage of by the MAGA spoon fed news
We all know Notre Dame wouldn't be on the grounds on Jan 6th, they are too busy rigging our court systems. Not sure that's any better.
Verbal warnings from police. What a white idea. Kidding my man. She dead because she did stuff that get folks killed. Black Twitter don’t miss. Need black threads tho.
Congress could have voted to prohibit him from seeking a second term. I guess there's some disagreement on that, and SCOTUS could have weighed in on it. https://apnews.com/article/barring-trump-holding-office-again-f477c7ddc7ad0cc91a5fb86d12b007f0
i personally think Biden wipes the floor with Trump and people are only scared because of the narrative the media (which is largely irrelevant to non boomers or people without right wing brain rot) paints. And once Trump dies/is in jail/flees to the Middle East or Russia his movement is done as fuck. All the people riding his coattails are constantly at each others throats because the major underlying qualities they have are EXTREME selfishness and narcissism.
I guess it's never been done against a president. That link says that it would only take a majority in each house to make it happen. "The professors write that if a majority vote of both houses agree that Trump engaged in an act of “insurrection or rebellion,” then he would be barred from running for the White House again. Only a two-thirds vote of each house of Congress in the future could undo that result."
Was there ever enough for a majority in both houses? Senima and/or the fuck from WV wouldn't have done it
Well, considering where we stand now, it seems like it was their duty to bring it to a vote. The only way J6 could have been more blatantly directed by Trump would be if he'd strolled into the Capitol and hunted for Pence himself. We're once again depending on 50k Americans to do the right thing on election day. The Sinema/Manchin discussion was had for years. The Ds played nice with them and got infrastructure done. They didn't get voting rights, police reform, abortion rights, etc. done. The average voter notices that and takes it into consideration when voting for a D president. To us the choice is clear, but for the undecideds it's not clear that we're headed straight for authoritarian leadership with the GOP/Trump.
