damnit you're right it is Dorne. I knew it was somewhere southern. the darkstar Dayne hopefully has a bigger role in book 6 cause he seems cool
Not to be nitpicky but it's Darkstar, Blackstar is a rap group. And I hope you're right because he seems like a badass.
he was but i think it had more to do with Arys being an Oakheart and thus from The Reach/Highgarden while Darkstar was of Dorne and thus they were big rivals anyway.
I feel like a retard. I never understood the R + L theory because I never truly understood Lyanna's story. I guess I didn't pay enough attention to Ned and Robert's conversation and the various flashbacks. Makes a lot more sense now after going back and reading more about her.
Re-reading the entire series, which is an awesome thing to do. I had no idea how much I missed the first time through. Crazy. Anyway, had a question about something I read. It's pretty spoilerific (well, more speculative I guess, but still...). If you have read all the books and are quite familiar with all the theories, then please read. On page 30, in Dany's chapter, it says,"Yet sometimes Dany would picture it the way it had been...Her brother Rhaegar battling the Usurper in the bloody waters of the Trident and dying for the woman he loved..." (emphasis mine) To many, this is a subtle nod to R+L=J, which seems plausible. In actuality, it seems like the ONLY explanation. Has it been said anywhere that Rhaegar fought at the Trident for his wife? Is there any other explanation that fits, other than Rhaegar fighting for Lyanna? Also, why does Dany know this? Since she wasn't even born yet, did she glean this info from Viserys?
I think one of the most convincing evidences is that Ned tells Jon that he'll tell him about his mother the next time he sees him. If they had seen one another again, Jon would have already said his vows, renouncing all claims and titles he would have and voiding any claim he would have to the throne a la maester aemon. If he knew he was lyanna and rheagar's trueborn son, then he would know he was the true heir to the throne. Making the whole cover-up Ned's only moment of 'dishonor', not any moment of infidelity.
according to my limited research, howland reed is the only living person who knows what happened the day lyanna stark died. that's what makes him so intriguing
This would be true. Barristan may have known she had been pregnant, maybe, but would not have known if the baby had been born since the only people who survived the battle at the Tower of Joy (in which Lyanna most likely died of childbirth) were Ned and Howland and perhaps baby Jon.
wasn't barristan wounded at the battle of the trident? he would have no idea what was going on down south
He was wounded while fighting by Rhaegar's side. Pretty sure he was close to the source. Still trying to find the quote, but it had something to do with nothing being able to blot out the sun.
the only kingsguard at the tower of joy where lyanna died were the white bull, the sword of the morning, and ser oswell whent and they all died there
How many men did Ned have with him again? Like 10? Dems were some badasses, not like the pussified kingsguard we have now.
yea around that. howland reed and ned were the only ones to survive. it's pretty cool reading about it because ned would get very sad talking about the tower of joy not just because of lyanna, but because of how he had to kill the last honorable members of the kingsguard
Spoiler "Rhaegar loved his Lady Lyanna, and thousands died for it." -Kingbreaker ADWD p. 875 From the epilogue of ADWD (Kevan POV): "If Aerys had agreet to marry her (Cersei) to Rhaegar, how many deaths could have been avoided? Cersei could have given the prince the sons he wanted, lions with purple eyes and silver manes...and with such a wife, Rhaegar might never have looked twice at Lyanna Stark. The northern girl had a wild beauty, as he recalled, though however bright a torch might burn it could never match the rising sun. I would say that is pretty certain.
I would say its pretty certain... but not because of that quote. Like I said, Barriston would have had no idea she had given birth much less to a son.
I'm not using it to confirm birth, but it certainly confirms the love they had for one another, which I thought was the purpose of the GOT quote posted and asked about by Arkie Proud.
It confirms that Rhaegar loved Lyanna which we all knew, but I don't see how it confirms Lyanna loved Rhaegar
From everything we've heard about Rhaegar from everyone not named Robert Baratheon, I highly highly doubt he would be the type to kidnap a woman against her will.
how would dany or viserys know that rhaegar died for the woman he loved? i'm wondering why GRRM would put that quote in
I'm pretty intoxicated, and had no idea of what we were arguing over. I thought you were saying that the quote proved that R + L = J Yea that quote and a few other make it clear that he was in love with Lyanna. He was fighting for more than just her but I now see your point.
