My niece is heading into her junior year of HS and wants to go to law school or work for the FBI or something like that (thanks, true crime podcasts). She started The Wire tonight and is going to be texting me her thoughts throughout. I am oddly excited.
What I wouldnt give for a first time watch of that show. I didnt see the first three seasons live because I didnt have HBO. I saw the first two episodes of Season 4 and loved it, so I started recording the show and then going to my local Blockbuster in 2007 and started renting the episodes four at a time to try and catch up as fast I could.
My first watch was my junior year of college, via Netflix when it was all DVD’s by mail. Those waits between DVD’s were brutal.
She knows that he grows up to be Michael B. Jordan, right? I remember watching Creed when it first came out and thinking "man, where do I know this guy from?" before checking imdb.
MBJ didn't do much between Wallace and Creed..... going off IMDB it looks like Friday Night Lights and Fantastic 4.
wasn't Fruitvale Station his major breakout? I know he was on Parenthood for a while, my wife loved that show.
Season 2 is one of my favorite seasons. So many top notch scenes. All Prologue may be my favorite episode.
Season 2 was not my favorite first time through but after several rewatches it went up the order. I feel I’ve seen that for a lot of people.
S2 was actually the season I started on (as it aired) and I was hooked pretty immediately. Only after getting through 2 did I go back and watch S1.
I enjoy season 2 outside of Ziggy scenes. I ffw through those in rewatches. The rest of the content in the season is great
I watched Generation Kill (also a Simon/Burns collaboration) and then decided to get the book it was based on but gave up on because I felt like I wasn’t hearing anything new.
This book is a little like that so far, but also seems like possible "book is better than the movie/show" territory. I can already tell there's a Bubbles, there's a Namond, etc but the book is able to go much deeper. You get a lot of what characters are thinking.
